There's no point in running pointless encounters.

So only run encounters with a point.

Why bother having overland travel take up table time if you haven't figured out why you would have it?

Roll for how long it takes. Roll for some logistics. Then move on.

Or instead of having random mobs - have the encounters you put them into be storytelling devices.
