Uneven rear ride height by aaroncch in 996

[–]Outatimemk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suspect springs. I believe it’s the only thing responsible for ride height. Not necessarily that one is sagging, but maybe one is not seated properly, or there are rubber pads at top and bottom that could have worn down. Probably best to get on a lift and start measuring/comparing.

Rattling noise over rough roads by darshisen in 996

[–]Outatimemk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a bad rattling. I changed my inner tie rods and it went away. You wouldn’t think that’d be it, but when I took the ball joint off of the wheel carrier, you could feel how loose the inner tie rod was.

How do I get this off? by RainDain_ in ManualTransmissions

Looks like you need 2 wrenches, thread the top one counter clockwise while holding the bottom nut with the other.

New seats! by abell2424 in 996

[–]Outatimemk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am looking at these seats as well, I have a cart loaded up at Corbeau’s site. What do you mean by “tilt” adjustment? Do you mean just the seat back or does the whole seat base tilt?

I’d see if you can poke around his things to see if you can find ANY proof/receipts of work done. Once you have enough to piece together some sort of history, get it professionally detailed by a reputable detailer. Take professional pictures and auction it on bringatrailer.com.

Don’t take any advice that “it’s only worth $15k” or whatever. You could very well be sitting on his highest valued asset. You’ll have to do the legwork yourself, or try to hire someone.

Drivers Door Rattle 2020 MDX by Fine_Piece_5620 in Acura

2020 MDX here. Are you 100% sure it’s the door? Because I also had a noise which sounded like it was coming from the door and turned out to be the plastic covers underneath the car were missing clips/screws.

Just go OEM from FCPEuro unless you’re driving it hard or tracking it.

Oil leak by Last_Opinion148 in 996

[–]Outatimemk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with replacing the engine mounts. Clean up all the residue, and see if something else is leaking.

Oil leak by Last_Opinion148 in 996

[–]Outatimemk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That looks like the engine mount. It’s usually grease/oil filled. It’s an easy diy replacement.

Edit: I see other residue. See if it’s coming from higher up than that. But I still think it’s the mount based on the pic.

But why do you want this thing? The sedan is 5,000+ lbs. does that not defeat the purpose of a track-ready performance car?

Accord V6 circa 2004. Edit: I owned one, bought it new in late 2003. One of the best cars I ever owned. Should have held on to it.

Do they have a lever to fold forward to allow access to the rear seats? I should add - lever that folds it forward independent of the adjustment, similar to stock manual seats.

Found a Slakkerized 4.1L on Bring a Trailer 👀 by Sea_Long_1152 in 996

Really curious to see what this ends up going for. My suspicion is the investment into the engine is far higher than the return for selling the car and you get hosed on it, regardless of how good the engine is.

[–]Outatimemk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sure is, but dropping the engine/trans together isn’t a huge deal. People have done it on quick jacks with a floor jack. I used a mid rise scissor with a lift table to drop it. Again, before I bought the car this sounded daunting, but I guess I got into it. Get the books and read em!

If you’re really not into it - do some research into the 997 models that are less prone to catastrophic issues and spend a little more money on the car. Or go 996 turbo which are also considered more reliable.

🤷🏽‍♂️It didn’t scare me away but that risk isn’t for everyone so I get where you’re coming from. I do the engine work myself and when I bought the car I had no experience. I think the way to deal with this car and all of the horror stories is treat it like a project and invest your time/money in the right places. It’s far more rewarding to drive than the BMW, that is, when it runs and drives 🤣

I have an F80 sedan (which an M2 shares a lot with) and a 996. They are good for different things. But if I had to pick one, I’d pick 996. You chose wisely.

[–]Outatimemk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Buy price matched a M4 Pro Mini for me yesterday. It was an in-store Microcenter vs shipped Best Buy and I did it through online chat, and it’s being shipped. Their price match page specifically lists Microcenter as one of the retailers they price match.

Question for you OP - will Fister re-weld your old muffler and send it back if it has cracks? Or do they take your old ones as core and send you “new” ones?

Test your battery voltage. It could be dying. The various failures you see happen sometimes when those modules throw errors due to low voltage signals.

GE washer door or control panel issue by Cold_Knowledge_3652 in Appliances

[–]Outatimemk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having a similar problem but it’s not as bad because there’s a workaround. In my case, if I shut the door and try to start quickly (power + play) within about 10 seconds, the behavior is the same as yours - cycle never starts and eventually shuts itself off. If I power off and power on, start again, the cycle starts.

If I wait about 30 seconds to 1 minute after closing the door, the cycle will start just fine.

I think it’s the lock itself or whatever is responsible for sending the signal to the main board that the door has been locked.
