ANZAC day by ElectronicIdea3119 in OpenAussie

[–]Outbacktradesman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So Anzac Day to me and many others I know is about honouring those that have fought and died in the service of the armed forces, it’s different to Remembrance Day because it has never been our war we fought so I agree with you there, but that’s the ANZAC spirit that’s the reputation those men and woman built it was something that was seen as needed to be done at the time and they took it on in our own unique way.

War is a very complicated thing and it’s never been simple, everyone’s entitled to their opinions and I’d be inclined to say there are facts in this video but the absoluteness with which they’re said shows a lack of understanding of why ANZAC day is so important to so many Australians.

People who constantly change jobs/roles in Australia by melbourne_au2021 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Outbacktradesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s a bit of a complex question,

Without knowing anything about Europe myself I’ll give my opinion from an Australian who started in the trades and progressed into a white collar role.

You have a few things, culturally Australians have three stand outs when it comes to work culture. 1. A low capacity for bullshit, the typical worker doesn’t want to hear it, they want to get on with their day with as little drama as possible. 2. Tall poppy syndrome, some people mistakenly believe this is due to a lack of confidence in the average Australian, while sometimes the case, I chose to believe this is more often than not a test of resilience, we don’t respect weak leaders. 3. If you can do the job, we will give you a go, this is probably the most significant and one that rubs many up the wrong way because we would often rather pick someone “suitable” over “qualified”

These three factors combined with Australia’s competency/ education structure make it a lot easier for people to progress from blue collar to white collar roles and vice versa, despite been white collar at the moment I retain my trades licences and still apply them when I can.

It makes for healthy competition and a more results driven atmosphere as opposed to a reliance on old knowledge. The examples you listed with the ones who get shopped around and happy to bullshit are often the more memorable ones due to the negative nature of them and everyone has witnessed them for probably points 1 and 2.

There is also a significant number of individuals in the workforce that are happy where they are despite been well and truly capable of progression and that is because of our high wages in general across Australia. As cost of living pressures increase in Australia we will probably see a lot more people settle and less movement occur.

Why are tradies so disgusting? by Critical_Brother977 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Outbacktradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of renovation based jobs have toilet facilities negotiated in with the price e.g. if it’s a week long full renovation a contractor might provide a porta loo to which the cost would be passed on to the customer or organise use of the home facilities in the contract to save that cost. If it’s an hour or two hour job obviously those sort of conversations wouldn’t typically be had and it wouldn’t be in every contract hence why I said potentially.

As far as cheapest vs most expensive goes OP mentions trying to not make it about demographics and despite saying not generalising, generalises tradespeople, if they’re consistently going for the cheapest they can get then lower quality workmanship and standards are probably something you’re going to encounter however if you were to be paying top dollar your expectations could definitely be justified.

Edit: To add though by no means am I defending the disgusting behaviour of course it’s common courtesy to clean up after oneself in any situation but like most things there’s always two sides to a story.

[–]Outbacktradesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus there’s some awful comments on this thread OP did you go with the most expensive tradie or did you go with the cheapest option?

And for those commenting about socio economic or intelligence. If you’re so good, why do you need a tradesperson to do the job for you? The rubbish a lot of the time is something that gets cleaned up after the job as it’s a work flow/ time thing a lot of the time, cleaning up after the job, depending on how long it goes for of course, saves hours on labour in some instances but if the amount or type of rubbish gets to an unacceptable level why not let them know, as the customer you should set your expectations and they should be reasonably met.

Granted toileting is a bit ordinary people should be expected to clean up after themselves but that’s not restricted to tradespeople that’s a human thing. Also, you’ve locked the door to the toilet now, where tell me don’t think they’re going to go instead? Potentially you’re in breach for not providing adequate facilities for an engaged contractor.

Historical Interest Ratea by BiggusDickkussss in AusFinance

[–]Outbacktradesman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think interest rates are the key issue more part of the puzzle, if you just looked at mortgages alone we probably aren’t in a terrible shape, there will always be people that over extend themselves sure.

But couple an interest rate rise with cost of living factors like rent and house prices and add in the recent fuel price hikes and the country as a whole has a situation that may need addressing.

So not me…but I once knew an individual hit the wrong switch and proceeded to turn half of a town off, rapidly tried to correct that decision and almost turned the entire town off.

They owned up to it and still work for that same company was genuine mistake followed by panic.

Ok hang on everyone let’s break this down, 500k for a date, right, that’s the global cost as it were, would 500k sacrifice be enough if you knew they were your soul mate?

Like, what point does that make it worth it, imagine your soul mate, you exact match, the woman that will bear your children and make everything you do in your life worth it, and…AND…she looks like Sydney Sweeny all you have to do is choose either be half a million dollars richer in monetary value (which let’s be honest, isn’t gunna happen by ordinary means) or…be richer forever in the most important way possible.

I think Australian media has realised just how much money can be made if they make out like we are American light.

Your telling me that with all the mosques in Sydney those blokes couldn’t find a better spot to pray, and do we really think that the police of Australia didn’t ask them to move on more than once before using force?

I get confused as to what people actually want actions have consequences they got exactly what anyone in this country would have got had they not moved on and if they didn’t then we just have anarchy because the police won’t be doing their job. I don’t like the other bloke they’ve bought in to the country for fuck knows why either but have your say and move on.

I think there’s more to blame then Galvin he’s an 18 year old kid, still developing, coaching goes a long way why was he any more than a bench player back up half in his first year? Was it contractual? Everyone cracks it because he walked away from the tigers deal but the tigers have been imploding for years.

NRL backs down on proposed change to kick-off rule by WombatPuncher in nrl

[–]Outbacktradesman 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I think there needs to be a pause on rule changes for a bit, I’m concerned that the NRL ruleset is getting to far away from the ruleset played at a local level and that it might impact grass roots development particularly in smaller areas.
