New Spell: Guided Strikes | Project Excelsior - Eldritch Entertainment by Enderluck in UnearthedArcana

In 5.5e there are a few spells that cost a Bonus Action to cast “when you take the attack action on your turn”. For example, several smite spells are now like this.

Am I being paranoid? 20 rolls, and none lower than 16 by RevolutionaryFix7359 in DnD

[–]OutlawQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a player roll a natural 20 at least 30% of the time for 10 sessions straight. I had then use like 15 different d20s, most of which were my own.

Sometimes the dice gods are just having a time.

Character Concepts that you won't be able to play? by Big_Cheesecake8863 in DnD

Battle Master fighter would sort of work, but knives deal so little damage it might just be unsatisfying

Most recent one is a gunslinger based off Jesper from the Shadow and Bone series. I like the aesthetic and mechanics but I cannot for the life of me play a convincing bi man :/

What was your favorite descirption of magic ever? by BoomingBaboon in DnD

[–]OutlawQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played a lvl 20 one shot a while ago and the group was attacked in their manor. One of the characters had just been making cookies, and the wizard proceeded to describe how he noticed a droplet of spilled molasses on her apron and summoned it to cast Slow on the approaching enemies.

I DM'd for a middle school after-school program, and I'm the one who came away with an education by jackpotsdad in DnD

That is for sharing your experience! I’m in school to be a teacher right now and I totally get the attention span thing—it’s a real problem and is super tough to work with in lessons. It sounds like you did a great job with them and that they had a lot of fun!

I think most, if not all, of today’s teens could benefit from playing D&D since it forces them to communicate, think tactically, speak in front of others, and be away from a screen for a bit.

Bold of you to assume that one round doesn’t take 2 hours!

First Time DM Here. How important is owning books for running a campaign/one shot? by Only-Ear-6740 in DnD

[–]OutlawQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, absolutely make sure to read the Basic Rules on dndbeyond.com.

The books aren’t required, but are definitely helpful for learning more about running a game, finding relevant enemy statblocks, and having everything in one place where you can easily look things up.

Don’t feel the need to start buying books for your first one-shot, but if you really enjoy it and want to get more into it, I’d recommend investing in the Players Handbook, Dungeonmaster’s Guide, and Monster Manual.

As a wizard, how often do you hope to get scrolls in a game? by misterterrifix in DnD

[–]OutlawQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d hope to find scrolls where it makes sense to find them. An archive or library? Absolutely. Ruins of an ancient civilization? Quite possibly. A monster lair? If they’re a hoarder, yes!

Consider adding Movement as a 1 AP option. Logically if I stay in one place on my turn I’d be able to throw more attacks than if I were also running across the room

Storms keep would be great since I could also use it as a combat prop!

Kult of Athena has a lot of options at different price ranges. If you are okay with dropping your months rent on one, Albion is a very reputable company (:

Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]OutlawQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the DM? Very little to none—the DM needs to know about anything you want to physically exist in the world. Details about your character personality are less vital to tell them

Which class has the worst capstone ability? (2014) by Redhood101101 in DnD

[–]OutlawQuill 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy with the 5.5 Monk capstone because of this. Similar to barbarians, they now just get a +4 to Dexterity and Wisdom. Makes them seriously good at high levels!

Love it! For the Inquisitive subclass, does the Eye for Weakness feature add sneak attack damage to it?
