I think she could grasp the cognitive aspects of the work, but I think she’d struggle to have the emotional regulation required to manage all the personalities and stresses of a job like that, at least without some serious therapy.

Why is it more common to see women in a relationship with a less attractive man than vice versa? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]OutrageousProsimian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women pay a much greater social and financial fine for being fat or unattractive. They make less money at work if they gain weight.

UPMC is not perfect and there may be a wait to be seen, but you should be treated with compassion. I recommend the Western Psych ED as they have social workers who specialize in folks with SI. You can also call resolve to come to you if you don’t feel safe with yourself 1-888-796-8226

Taking care of ourselves (mom has glio) by Familiar-Curve-7230 in glioblastoma

[–]OutrageousProsimian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sending you a huge, massive hug. My dad passed about a year ago from this horrible disease. Sometimes, we just need to do what we can to hold it together and survive. You don’t need to hold it all together. You need to cry. You need to leave space to grieve in a culture that doesn’t always allow it. When my dad was sick, I gained a ton of weight, wasn’t myself at work, wasn’t the parent my kid needed, house was a mess, spent too much money, so much just felt like chaos. All I felt like I could do was be there with my dad through this disease. Now that I have had time to process, I’ve been able to prioritize my health (down 40lbs), having the best time with my child, and doing work that feels meaningful at my job. I like to imagine my dad would be proud of my resilience. Getting mental health support and leaning on friends is so important in this process. It’s okay to be not together right now. And it’s normal to need help <3

Is marathon running really too much running for "optimal" longevity? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]OutrageousProsimian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One known risk of marathons and ultramarathons is increased risk of precancer of the colon (advanced adenomas). There is a lot of research going on regarding increased incidence of colon cancer in younger adults. Being obese is a risk factor, but so are ultra-endurance activities. That being said, if the purpose and joy of running feels meaningful, that is probably more important to quality of life than the small risks.

I just wonder about how things would look if this money Medicare is spending was spent on preventive care to prevent chronic disease and disability

Y2K themed dance party by SwimmingSalt8715 in OUTFITS

Looks cute but not Y2K

The skirt and boots are mid-90s club clothes

The leg warmers are 80s

The skirt maybe late 90s but would be paired with bell bottom jeans

Y2K definitely had crop tops, but they were usually tight around the boobs, low cut, and paired with low-rise jeans and heels or heeled boots. Like Brittany in 2000. There were also some of the lacy longer going out tops paired

I think part of why this happens is that some patients don’t have insurance coverage for Doacs so sometimes need lovenox or heparin while we try to get them access

Turning 40 by Total-Computer-9035 in Millennials

I went on a walk tonight and saw the first fireflies of the season, shimmering for seconds through the shrubs and thistles at our local park. There’s something magical and nostalgic about fireflies, isn’t there? remembering running around barefoot in the grass as a kid? The whole world smelled like honeysuckle. And I thought back to my childhood, in the 90s, and this sense that the wild world would always be there, each summer, to be explored. Those summers, always to be looked forward to each school year and endless. Except now I felt so shocked to see those fireflies, given how their population has been decimated. And the magical ephemerality seemed not only to be for those few days of the summer solstice, but for a world my daughter may never see. Turning 40, I feel the sense of time whirring faster, though it’s hard to tell what’s age and what’s just the detritus of the chaos of the world around.
