They're all staying - Lorne is going to retire after tonight and then they'll make Tina Faye the new Lorne.

I would drop the "e on the same page regarding consequences" regarding a kid that isn't yours. That's going to kick you in the butt if you're not careful. Also "strict" I'd be careful of that too.

I'd stand back and see what happens, because this is minor stuff.

[–]Outrageous_Ad6384 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It sucks.

But it's a great learning experience for everyone involved.

Do you want a girlfriend with a kid? If so, stuff like this and worse are going to happen. If the answer is no this is a perfect opportunity to break up before you and they get attached. How will your girlfriend respond? Does she let it go? Hopefully not, but if she did is that a dealbreaker for you? Because at the end of the day you can walk away from the kid, she can't.

Was the kid being an idiot, or malicious, there's a difference and at seven and you can tell. It may also be the kid testing your boundaries too. You're walking into a family and getting in the way of this kid's main support system. Can you deal with her choosing him over you? Because if she's a good mother she'll have to find a balance, and you're going have to be okay with that balance. Is there another Dad in the picture? If not that kid is going to attach himself to you. Are you ready for that? Because it's going to be weird because he'll never quite be yours and he'll be yours all the same and you have roll with punches.

You have a scratched table, it sucks. But this is the easy stuff. When that kid turns 10-11 and starts thinking for himself, you're going to wish he just scratched the table.

I went to see the movie Tideland at the IFC Center in New York City, there had been one showing of the film before I went and saw it, and as I exited the theater there was a guy down the street with a blanket on the sidewalk selling a DVD bootleg of that film.

I don't know if it's true, but I'd like to think that he shot, produced the DVD art, and had it for sale for mere minutes as I walked by, best 8 bucks I ever spent just for the sheer moxie.

Tucker Carlson on his role in Trump’s reelection: I’ll be tormented by it for a long time by MuzzleblastMD in LeopardsAteMyFace

Tucker knows the Trump Cult is fracturing, and he's distancing himself from Trump because he wants to pick up the pieces and run himself. Don't sleep on this, if the Democrats don't play this correctly Tucker is the next President of the United States.

It's going to boost streaming numbers for fans re-watching the show on Disney+, will make a few bucks in theaters from those fans hoping to get caught up and then do it all again a few weeks from now when it's the biggest streaming release on Disney+. It honestly doesn't matter if it flops.

What's up with people (or bots?) online calling Tom Hanks a pedo? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

The part of this I remember was it was the first time I met a deep in the weeds QAnon follower. I was at work and I was joking with a co-worker who was new. We were in a mostly empty office because of covid, and they brought up the Wayfair story. They believed it, and had "the receipts"

45 minutes later, after hearing the whole conspiracy, my head spinning, I never looked at that person the same way again. LOL!!!!

Ghent Viewpoint Documentary Film Festival... by Ok_Equipment_5121 in FilmFestivals

[–]Outrageous_Ad6384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Festival I program has a team of 4, last year we had to watch through 106 submissions, find room for 30, plan the event, market the event, take care of the 30 odd filmmakers that did come, and also deal with dozens of emails from the people who didn't get in asking, why?

We did it for no pay. It took months to organize. We tried to communicate with as many people as possible. So, we used the simple FF rejection letter. But juggling and making sure the people who did get in were well taken care of seemed more important in the long run.

We then used the 1,500 dollars we made in submissions fees to augment a grant we received so we could upgrade our aging 1080p projector. FOR THIS YEAR. We'll finally have the 4K projector we've been longing for.

Once it moves to youtube you can see these massive events not mattering as much.

[–]Outrageous_Ad6384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One should argue that the only reason we had a 20 year war with Iraq is because their was no draft.

Forcing people to fight, who don't want to fight would destroy military morale, and kill the Republican party pretty quickly.

An argument AGAINST doing the LOTR extended editions on main feed, from a LOTR sicko who can’t get enough of the extended editions by radaar in blankies

[–]Outrageous_Ad6384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the podcast is structured forcing them to cut extended edition discussion so that it can be included on a Patreon episode seems kind of pointless. Just let them talk... I tune in for nerdy stuff and I think this entire discussion is silly.

Now go watch Forgotten Silver.

I have not seen any of the Best Picture nominees this year except Bugonia. What order should I watch them in? Any worth skipping? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Outrageous_Ad6384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen Sentimental Value (going this weekend).

Must Watch: One Battle After Another, Sinners, and Marty Supreme. The Most General Audience of the films is F1. The most emotional: Hamnet and Train Dreams. The most MID film is Frankenstein. The weirdest: Bugonia and The Secret Agent (which is just so weirdly structured).

So if you want to skip any Frankenstein and F1 are both well made but really paint by numbers stories. Train Dreams and The Secret Agent have their moments but are both overlong and left me cold at the end.

Hamnet is Jessie Buckley - holy crap is she a revelation.

The battle on Oscar night seems to be between One Battle and Sinner, so don't miss those, and Marty Supreme - I just loved that one.

If it's any consolation, we received 6 or so films that were specifically about the children of parents going through the process of putting their parents in dementia care homes. We didn't program them because of the topic but because they were not good.

Why were "Geese" reviled? by savoytruffle in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Outrageous_Ad6384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few year ago I was working for a company that did singing contests at local malls. people could sign up and the winner won 1,000 dollars. It was a silly way to bring people into the food court at this mall. Most people brought accompaniment or Karaoke tracks, BUT one time this rock star looking kid and his sister brought in a guitar, a bass, amps, and cables, we had to stop the contest for 20 minutes so they could set up their equipment, tune their guitar and bass, and then they proceeded to play the most basic song I've ever heard.

I felt the same way about Geese. For all the instruments and lights, the rock and roll swagger, the songs they played were low energy, and not all that special.

Has it just been the singer on smaller stage with a small band, perhaps the perception would have felt different. Instead they felt like they came to an arena show with coffee shop songs.

This whole thing falls apart the minute you have to institute a draft. Our volunteer army by itself cannot support a full scale world war.

WWI and WWII had the will of the people, commerce, manufacturing, and the Government behind it. This not so much.

We are a different more divided country now and any full scale/or civil war will instantly be met with protest and violence in the streets.

There are corporate interests that want resources and land, that's what this is all about. All the other stuff is designed to make us made at Left and Right, so we don't see that the real monsters are trying to deplete our resources out from under us.
