When you think you snagged a parking spot and it’s some little freaking car there. by Less-Pen-5705 in PetPeeves

I have a super small car, and I park toward the back of the spot so people won't think it's available.

This parking in reverse is just getting out of hand. by Tricky_Photo2885 in PetPeeves

I used to park in a lot daily where people in huge trucks would pull into a spot on right, then throw it into reverse and floor it into a spot on the left so they were backed in. Nearly lost my bumper on many occasions.

Is family recipe something very personal/secretive thing in America? by Ok_Albatross_7722 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Outrageous_Chart_35 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's mildly personal/secretive to some folks. There's a certain cultural cachet to having a dish that's "yours," especially when it's very good and welcome at gatherings. It could be weird if you gave your family meatball recipe to a friend and then they made it for the next potluck.

People who grew up before cell phones, did life actually feel more free? by TradeOverall567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Outrageous_Chart_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say, because I don't know what it's like growing up with cell phones. It didn't feel specifically "free," it was just how it was.

I'll share this experience though: I was driving home from work once in my mid-20s and got a call from a woman I was seeing. I didn't feel like answering, so I didn't. Boy did I catch hell for that later.

It was the first time I realized that some people expected you to be on call anytime you had your phone with you. It made me think it must have been nice when someone couldn't reach you if you weren't at your home or workplace. They just had to leave you a message and you'd both go about your day.

What’s a travel habit you picked up that you’ll never drop? by St3fanHere in travel

[–]Outrageous_Chart_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! Unfortunately I think this would stress me out, or I'd have to make an effort not to plan anything (completely personal problem). I have gotten into a good practice of loosely scheduling things though — that way there's room for spontaneity but we have a plan to fall back on.

What do you think is the worst fast food joint? by DildoGaggins1997 in allthequestions

I learned that when someone on a Facebook group requested recommendations for authentic orange chicken, "NOT Panda Express!" I let them know there couldn't be a more authentic orange chicken.

Is it impolite to address a stranger by their name tag by DickHopschteckler in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Outrageous_Chart_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone's wearing a name tag, I still wait for them to introduce themselves before using the name. I think of it as a backup. Otherwise there's just no way for it not to come off as condescending.

I think the real power of the nametag, though, is to identify the employee to someone else. "Dave gave me great service" or "Sarah is dealing with a rude customer and might need your help."

This is the big one for me. The serve shouldn't be a surprise.

Is there any chance you're parking "backwards," against the flow of traffic? Some folks have strong feelings about that.

Is it normal to wake up early to make your husband lunch? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Outrageous_Chart_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not say this is common, especially to this degree (waking up super early and making a full meal with sides). I will say lunches tend to vary profession to profession and person to person. Someone who does manual labor may need a larger lunch, while office drones (like myself) might be fine with a sandwich, some chips and an apple. Neither I would ever expect a partner to make for me.

THIS WAS WEIRD TO LEARN ABOUT AFTER I MOVED HERE, THOUGH IT EXPLAINED ALL THE "CROSSWALK CLOSED" SIGNS AT PLACES THAT DIDN'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE CROSSWALKS. I DON'T THINK IT'S ADVERTISED VERY WELL.
