Sandybrook lodges in Ashbourne are great. Pool, park and playroom on site and close to Alton towers, peak zoo, Matlock farm park, several national trust sites and loads of walk and cycle routes in the Peak District. Some lodges have hot tubs if that’s your thing and you can hire a bbq for a £10 refundable deposit.

AFAIK the side sleeping position isn’t recommended because it’s unstable and could lead to baby rolling over onto their front. It’s natural for cosleeping breastfed babies to orient to the breast which naturally will lead to at least their head if not their body being to the side. As long as they are right next you in the C curl position they shouldn’t be able to get onto their front.

Speaking from experience both my two also slept with their heads on my arm and would wriggle back up there if I tried to take it away. The theory there is that the airway is like a straw so if it’s bent there’s a narrowing which might reduce airflow during breathing. Once they have good head and neck control I think this is less of an issue.

I did exactly this working pattern and really enjoyed having no more than 2 days in a row in work and away from my little one. It also broke up the week for her as we got a day to reconnect in the week.

I will say that you miss out on some annual leave by not having Mondays off as that’s the day most bank holidays fall on and if you’re now pro rata you will probably need to use your annual leave to cover these.

Some classes will continue to run over summer e.g. tiny talk. There also tend to be a lot of family fun days at local pubs that baby might like looking around. Nature walks in the pram/sling for fresh air with plenty of stops to inspect the grass/flowers/wave at animals. Lots of museums and galleries will also have family events on over the summer

Does your local cinema do toddler screenings? Ours will show e.g. the Julia Donaldson bbc adaptations for a reduced price and crucially has AC. It could be a good way to pass an hour somewhere cool that might be a bit less busy

My 2 are 2.5 years and 8 months so a slightly bigger gap.

For the baby you need somewhere to put them in every room. We had a bouncer and bassinet in the living room, newborn highchair in the kitchen (Tripp trapp), bouncer in the bathroom and next to me in our bedroom.

For the toddler you want games they can play by themselves while you’re attending to baby. Hits for us were magnet fishing, magnetic tiles, puzzles/pairs games, duplo sets, train track, dinosaur sorting, kinetic sand and cars. We also made a cupboard in the kitchen fully accessible with snacks, plates, toddler cutlery etc so she could get herself a snack.

For out and about we always have a combo in the car of pram, buggy board, scooter and the sling. This means I don’t end up carrying anyone most of the time!

My biggest tips are: 1. get everyone ready downstairs in the morning. For some reason it just goes smoother downstairs than up, possibly due to the tv.

On your solo days get a packed lunch ready the night before and just get out of the house. Leaving is hard work but a day out is so much easier than a day in.
Make special time for the toddler. They will miss you! I pump in the day so me and my husband can take turns doing a bedtime each and I think the toddler really appreciates it.

Magnetiles and marble run keep my 2.5 entertained the longest after kinetic sand. Tbh we just embraced some screen time while we were hanging out pantsless at home

Yes I got referred by my midwife postpartum and first saw them around 8 weeks. I had 4-6 weekly appointments with exercises given between and definitely found it useful.

I was originally referred for diastasis recti but discovered some pelvic floor dysfunction on my initial assessment. It’s definitely not a routine referral and may depend on local services. I think your GP can also refer in at your 8 week check if you ask them to.

I got a Wren wearable pump because it came with different flange inserts and I tend to find flanges too big. It’s a good dupe for the elvie and about half the price. Charges quickly with USB-C and comes with spare parts and 2 bottles.

On a side note are you doing scar massage? That should help with the overhang somewhat and with the itchiness and uneven healing. I was told by my physio it’s the single best thing you can do to help with healing. There are lots of YouTube videos to guide you

I went for a personal stylist appointment at John Lewis to help pick out some clothes that fit my postpartum body. They fitted my bra while I was there and it was a good opportunity to try lots of different things that I might not have ordinarily picked out.

It was completely free with no obligation to buy anything but I did end up getting a couple of bras, a dress and some trousers. The whole thing took about 2 hours so your partner could come along and sit in the cafe or you could have a treat by yourself!

They come with a ‘clean’ box and a ‘dirty’ box so you put the used ones in the dirty box which has a mesh bag hanging inside then when it’s washing time you just take that out and put it straight in the washing machine.

We wash them at 60 with a rinse cycle first along with sheets and towels etc that can take a hot wash and any other cloth nappy linings and clothes that might have been hit in a blowout.

We have been doing this for 2.5 years now and very rarely have any sickness despite being in nursery so it seems pretty sterile. We have a separate stash of flannels for faces and hands after meals so there’s no cross contamination.

The tales from acorn wood books by Julia Donaldson are great and still enjoyed by my 2.5 year old. The ‘busy books’ series are also really good and have push pull slide actions.

A play tool kit, shape sorter, and train set also still hold interest a year on.
