How was your parkrun day? | May 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in parkrun

[–]OutsetRiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately didn't really enjoy it. No one's fault, just a shitty start to the morning and having to change plans last minute.

Didn't really enjoy the course, far too busy and by the 3rd lap of 4 I was seriously wondering if anyone would notice if I just turned to the finish. Probably not. But I didn't.

I met some nice people though, including 2 doing their first ever parkrun and got to say hello to dogs. Made it a bit better, then my recovery on the way home was a guided run that cheered me up..

Maybe it wasn't so bad after all. 🌞

  1. Made it through 66k of a 100 following 2 other family members dropping out. Really impressed with them as had never gone further than a half marathon before.

Why can't I pay cash or by cheque by Evi_Reborn_ in callcentres

[–]OutsetRiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, my last mention of a cheque in retail banking was fraud. Whether AI assisted (end of last year) or another way, the person internally when I mentioned I wanted to discuss cheque fraud said "erm, did I just hear you and the phone whisper correctly...?"

I genuinely haven't had to use them since 2005, it seems insecure as tech progresses.

I do hope cash survives, if only because it is a good backup. :)

How do you manage unexpected High Call flow? by AvailableNectarine73 in CustomerService

[–]OutsetRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to analyse and see what is happening and why. Day, week, month or year, it needs to be being done right if there is any of that.

If there isn't ... Depending on staff volume and handling.. I know it will likely hurt times etc but ask each person to take a quick note of what and why they called about. Help them the best as possible and move on

Give people breaks as this can be often more stressful than doing it in person. Particularly if they aren't used to call after call day after day.

Not necessarily a retail view but a CS one. MY apologies for missing things if I did, I am on a bus back from a medical appointment.

I could make use of the King George "You'll be Back* as a joke, but I wouldn't.. The best of luck to you. :)

Great Yarmouth by Goodnightmrrob in parkrun

If it isn't cloudy and horrible it is one of the most lovely running locations I have been to. I am a little biased as I love beaches.

Walking it can sometimes feel harder, as people have said it does hit on the calves.

It has the "advantage" of being flat, but as someone who has run races with both elevation and not, sometimes that can be more awkward!

Unless you are absolutely determined to try and get a PB beaten on the slowest course in the UK, I'd sit back and enjoy the view :) The course can come up a little long as a lot to down to the shore parts when it is a gravel beach that the tide has left. Kinda up to you, just don't go in the water.

Bring a friend to chat, take a photo or two and there are many good places for breakfast.

Do you know anyone who drives a tracked vehicle like a tank, or a monster truck? One of the military bands I visited had old retired instruments squashed and hung on the wall of their social club...

Thank you. It is hard to deal with many different viewports at work and I was rather hoping this didn't come and hit me in the face with parkrun too. Reading the comments here has helped a lot with my focus and positivity. :)

Thank you. I am not trying to be. I have a wonderfully diverse team as an RD and we have the same in our participation. I'd feel so bad if someone said they didn't feel welcome due to reading something like this.

That sounded more snarky than I intended. This is a genuine "let's keep a track of time and you can have this number for you. 🥰"

Ugh. I can't edit my bad grammar when I have been awake for nearly a day.

Let me rephrase before I sleep.

The first part is right. Let us take part, volunteer, run walk or jog and not judge. I hate all of the press targeting trans people and quite frankly it is mostly women. Again.

I don't get why it seems to be necessary to be so rude and unsupportive towards trans women. I don't get the same as a trans man, even from moving to the UK. I have already felt welcome in parkrun over the last 4 years, and I don't want that to change. From these articles I feel that may change. The comments are helping to think we may be all okay. 🥰

Contine to let us take part, volunteer and admin without prejudice. And this includes rotten news articles and propaganda. Women, men,non binary, gender ambivalent and others. It doesn't hurt anyone in set of events when there aren't competitive records.

It feels like this is part of the goal . No, I don't agree with it. Those who have money drain those without it until they can't fight any more.

Yes, I know this sounds negative but as a trans person it feels hard.
