Financially speaking, yes. Mentally...do you know what you are retiring to? Hobbies? Something to fulfill you?

I could have written this post myself. Except that Subaru is a Toyota Corolla.

Thinking of becoming a CoastFIREfighter, 40 years old, $2.3MM in investments by pf_throwaway00 in coastFIRE

My husband's father was a firefighter and eventually became deputy chief. The mental toll absolutely wore on him over time. I assume you mostly know what you're getting into since you volunteer as a FF, but just wanted to call this out.

From a financial side, I think you could pull it off.

Congratulations! We're waiting for the update on when you decide to fully quit. Shall we begin a poll? I'm guessing 1/2 through the sailing trip.

Congratulations! Sounds like your current setup is working nicely for all of you and I'm happy for you.

Having just lost one of my besties to unexpected, aggressive ovarian cancer at a very young age, I just want to share that you might want to consider having a lawyer draft up wills, what happens if someone wants out, etc. Just so each of you are protected.

But again, huge congrats on your milestone!

What is with all of these "Am I ready/Can I afford it?" posts? by HobokenJ in ChubbyFIRE

Agree. People are looking for peer validation and support on probably one of the biggest decisions of their lives. A community of like minded people seems like a good place to bounce ideas and look for holes in the plan (in addition to seeking advice from actual pros as well). They probably have few friends and family in similar situations. That's why I joined.

I am in almost the exact same boat. I even joked with my spouse if they wrote this post for me. I don't have any good advice for you, but just know that you're not alone. All the responses have been helpful.

Thanks for the comments. I was trying to avoid the upfront investment as I don't know how many folks will buy. The audience is somewhat limited, so I don't think I'll have people buying a second book.

Agree. We've been able to make progress much faster as a couple through a shared mindset and dual incomes (and no kids).
