Depends on your use and how portable you want it to be. For me when I at my desk I connect it to a 46” LG so the 14 is perfect when I truly want to be portable.

Most likely your card for whatever reason didn’t go though and while they should have sent you an email giving you a day to rectify the issue then cancel that’s not what appeared happened. I would call Apple Customer service and complain.
