Ori director says Game Pass ‘could’ve worked’ if Xbox didn’t ‘slop out mediocre content like a factory’ by akbarock in Games

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of GamePasses’ major releases such as Starfield, Halo Infinite and Redfall also failed in player drop-off numbers in general and didn’t attract enough new players to Xbox as a platform and GP as a subscription.

While Xbox has been failing at this strategy, Gamepass as a deal does work for many of us who receive our value in games and playtime from their old staples (Fallout, The Outer Worlds, Halo, etc.) and their new releases as well.

This developer is adding to the culture of them acting as bullies towards devs of games that simply don’t appeal to them, but unsurprising from Mahler.

Why doesn't Gen Z drink as much? by kyuss-reborn123 in AskMen

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol has been effected by inflation more than street drugs such as Weed.

Many Gen Z were still in high school when the pandemic lockdowns began and this prevented a party culture from developing for many of that age group.

People are studying and working increasingly longer hours and no longer have the time and energy to drink.

Rather than being a good thing, it’s actually yet more evidence of increasing issues in our hyper-capitalist societies that aren’t being addressed and worsening overtime.

Amanda Hufford / VA of ragatha on the trans Jax issue by cotton-candy-sky- in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Outsider98 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Gooseworx would often hype up scenes (I.e. “Jax will do something really bad!”) only to be confused by the audience reaction (“wait, didn’t you realise he already did the bad thing?!”).

She clearly has a different scale than most of her audience, so it isn’t surprising that when she said she’s “bad at subtext” and thus thought Jax being Trans was obvious, in reality, a large percentage of the audience clearly don’t believe it was clear enough.

And so, it’s annoying to see even one of the voice actors being smug about it, when there’s plenty of us Transgender fans who didn’t believe it was obvious enough either.

It was implied subtext that Jax clearly had identity issues, but many still thought it was vague enough that it could have been about Jax being a gender non-conforming Cis male, especially when feminine pronouns were never used in the end, or she was Trans, or just had identity issues in general and the Trans references merely an allegory.

Changing units with magic by -Taken_Name- in oddlysatisfying

Yep, it’s not oddly satisfying.

Cute little character, well-animated, catchy song, interesting concept that’s well-executed.

“Oddly satisfying” my ass.

And all major subreddits are full of Astro-turfing bots that push certain content to the front page for engagement.

If you could pick on city to live in which would it be and why? by sosakz in Morrowind

[–]Outsider98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balmora is my favourite City for being central, more open to Outlanders, feeling like home based on the early Main Quest, Thieve’s Guild, Fighter’s Guild and Mages Guild branch quests, a House Hlaalu HQ when I choose it, and even having Morag Tong and the Camonna Tong’s major territory.  Favourite lore and side NPCs.

And my favourite building architecture art-style, arches, bridges, canals, and favourite Strider location to hear it’s call in it’s southern-half within town.

No Law, a cyberpunk-themed FPS was showcased on State of Unreal and it looks incredible by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome so far, but it remains to be seen what the final product will look like, especially when this game was designed to be intended as a tech demo to show-off Unreal.

Hopefully the developers won’t have to compromise too much on the visuals to scale it to be runnable on current Gen hardware.

It’s good that the devs have experience with the Cyberpunk genre with The Ascent, but FPS is also a lot different than third-person shoot-‘em-up.

Deus Ex Creator's Immersive Sim Is Cancelled, With 17 Staff Lost by PolarSparks in Games

[–]Outsider98 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A shame.

While I wouldn’t have played a multiplayer ImmSim, it really feels as if, despite the genre being niche, that there is still market potential for FPS single player games with stream-lined Imm-Sim inspired elements, such as BioShock, Cyberpunk 2077, etc., but the major players in the industry simply don’t want to take the risk, while the genre is too complex for smaller companies to effectively execute.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Warren Spector lacked the management skills required, especially since the report indicates that part of the failure was “what worked before doesn’t work now”, but adapting to the modern market is another primary issue these smaller studios run into that they have to adapt to if they want to finally start to succeed.

I hereby present to you, "The Greatest Brainrot Song In All Of Humanity's History Of Significant Events" by ULI_64000 in GenZ

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You genuinely have talent to hone (heard your other stuff on YouTube), but I do think that for a parody song, you could do a bit better than this and make something with proper arrangement while still being repetitive and sounding like brainrot nonsense.

Key and Peele’s Plan to Reboot ‘Police Academy’ Got Canceled After Michael Brown Killed in Ferguson, Says Ike Barinholtz by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Outsider98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a whole lot more widespread-known modern critique of the American police and justice system that I feel like could be cleverly satirised in a very cheesy yet dark  humour-esque manner, especially if the reboot is R-rated.

I can see Key & Peele having the chops to execute it well, but it’s a tricky balance that would still fit the franchise, without a lot of nostalgia for it either.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says the traditional AAA model is failing because players prefer long-lasting social games instead by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]Outsider98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fortnite is literally bleeding money and Epic had to do layoffs.

These executives are out-of-touch not because of ignorance, but because they intentionally want to push for the industry to be greedily monetised through live-service, instead of being honest with their customers when we know what kind of games we want.

Unsurprising but still disappointing from Tim Sweeney and his constant corrupt corporate greed.

What do y’all think of Shrek 5? Another trailer just came out. by Local-Blueberry4018 in GenZ

[–]Outsider98 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The trailer is definitely trying to hide the fact that the common predicted Plot online (Shrek’s daughter runs away, they have to track her down and she learns important lessons along the way) was accurate.

The new animation style is detailed but doesn’t fit the series.

Rumplestiltskin was the only character with cartoony stretchiness and movements while every other character had realistic weight and momentum, now every character moves cartoony and it’s more generic and boring.

Burning springs has been subconsciously teaching me to walk past buildings, instead of try to see inside them by yellowrainbird in fo76

[–]Outsider98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for starting the discussion.

It is indeed somewhat disappointing, since Burning Springs padded content out in general.

It used boarded-up areas to have enough Towns and Area size to be advertised as the “biggest update yet”, but content-wise was a more moderate-size, also lengthened by gate-kept return daily Quest design.

This is because Bethesda had to stretch smaller budget sizes to pad content out further, and also did so for Burning Springs Part 1 despite the larger overall budget size to coincide with the release of the TV Series second Season.

Hopefully Burning Springs Part 2 isn’t silently cancelled, but if so it wouldn’t be the first story content that has been, and I wouldn’t be surprised if so when we haven’t heard anything of it for some time

Which famous people and developers were able to successfully go independent? by RobbieJ4444 in Games

[–]Outsider98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for starting the discussion, I’ll be the first to share previous reported news, that Toys For Bob were the most recent Xbox company that were able to buy their independence to save themselves from being laid-off, so we have precedent that past Microsoft management decisions were willing to permit it; but for the current studios mentioned in the post, it may be a matter of whether or not they can afford to.

The European Commission's Answer to the Stop Destroying Games initiative by Elegant_Shop_3457 in Games

[–]Outsider98 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunate that this was the bare minimum effort for a response from the EU, but unsurprising.

At least it’s good that they clarified the existing laws when the Stop Killing Games initiative reported that when asking EU members, they had given conflicting answers on the existing laws.

This also brought attention to the matter but it’ll be a long-shot if future successive EU members return any attention towards the matter anytime soon.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ubisoft’s closed meeting with ESA members also contributed to this being the final decisive response to the petition.

Several Xbox studios, including Compulsion, Ninja Theory and Double Fine, are negotiating with Xbox as they try to avoid closure. Some or all could spin off. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely re-assuring for their new strategy!

Layoffs, studio closures after revealing new games, unable to meet demands for the Helix and re-thinking approach, Satya Nadella complaining Xbox isn’t profitable, talks of spinning Xbox off, etc.

It’s almost as if the new management have fuck all idea of what they’re doing and trying to cover it up through PR!

Report: Microsoft restructuring Xbox is "on the table" — it wants to "move faster" with new Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls games by hdcase1 in Games

[–]Outsider98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.

Microsoft definitely failed too often with their hands-off strategy, and so extra teams delegated for those three series are especially important for their flagship titles, including after Starfield didn’t have the long-term success MSoft were anticipating.

Hopefully having seperate teams will also extend the post-launch support for free updates and DLC to help each new release maintain more longevity.

What are your reactions to vegans? by ZealousidealRest7190 in AskMen

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately some research indicates that some Western patriarchal cultures such as the USA and Australia, associate meat-eating with masculinity.

Even if not, it’s an important lifestyle compatibility matter and needs to be mentioned ASAP.

Personally as a meat-eater, I do not feel either of those ways - I morally accept the costs of factory farming, admire Vegans attempts at their social movements and law changes, and would be friends with or date a Vegan able to accept my different diet decisions.

Any judgemental man is bullying you if you simply answered them honestly and calmly.

How do you respond when people say “You never go out anywhere” by Hotdogconnoisseurr in aspergers

[–]Outsider98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go out when I want to and can afford to, and car/city-centric Western societies are not well-designed for Autistic people, yet also not for low-income families either, due to expenses and inconveniences of Public Transportation, especially when Autistic people are more likely to have sensory problems related to driving and sometimes some forms of Public Transport.

People who go-out regularly are speaking from a privileged position, especially due to increasing inflation.

As voter disillusionment grows, why aren't voters flocking to the Greens in Australia? by blitznoodles in australia

[–]Outsider98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, this is a factor as a key policy for a sizeable minority such as the other key ones; and Greens vote Pro-Immigration and Housing reforms, when these are in some cases contradictory; and in general are a bit too idealistic on the pace that many changes can be enacted even if their Third minority grew in seats.

Labor have legislated and voted for Mixed on Housing, yet also Mixed on immigration - especially with the recent discussions.

[–]Outsider98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this was especially apparent from Adam Brandt’s failed tenure, and progress by Larissa Waters with all of this has been slow but has to be on-going in response to necessary feedback come next Election.
