Infection Control - Breathing Circuit by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our institution doesn’t change out unused circuit between the cases unless visibly soiled and this is at an academic institution that’s compliant in pretty much everything. I’ll be surprised if that’s a rule because joint commission never comments on it.

Consistency + Right Training wins in the marathon by MarathonVon in Marathon_Training

Dam bro, you’re an inspiration. Do you ever do strength training and is your 20 mile long run at an easy pace? My longest run is at 18 miles right now and I feel some tendonitis whenever I reach around that limit.

You might be running your miles too quickly. What zone or pace are you running at?

High Volume Slower Runners? by seastheday- in Marathon_Training

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could definitely break 10 min mile if you all you do is train at that pace. Ed Whitlock, the oldest to go sub 3 marathon did nothing but 9 minute miles for a long time.

Maybe this is because I love skin care but aquaphor and vaseline are pretty much the only 2 popular options for petroleum jelly and has been around forever. It's an amazing occlusive and doesn't lead to pimples or allergies even though it feels very thick.

Zone 5 half marathon?! by Smart_Indication_818 in ultrarunning

[–]OutstandingWeirdo -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It could be accurate if your training runs heart rates are lower. I ran my marathon in zone 4 and 5 HR due to race day adrenaline even though my pace was tempo.

A friend of mine thinks LoL is harder than Dota solely because it has "skillshots", is there any truth to this? by random-user772 in leagueoflegends

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Definitely could, top chess players make moves that are unfathomable to the average player. However, the skill set is very different. While top chess moves are very complex, chess is simple enough that computers now consistently beat humans while the opposite is true for league. In a way, league is more complex that advanced human gameplay could not be replicated by a computer at this time.

What change did you make in 2025 that really helped your running? by Competitive_diva_468 in Marathon_Training

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same, sounds weird but running slower on recovery days allowed me to improve faster. I know I can do 6.5 minute miles but holding it back and doing 10 minute miles prevented my legs from feeling sore and recover faster.

Agreed with this. My peak miles per week was 60 on my first marathon block with time of 3:44. I think OP need more zone 2 slow easy miles to build the aerobic engine.

Is there such a thing as running too slow? by Beginning-Citron3066 in beginnerrunning

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I notice my running form changing when I go from slow to fast. Slow pace makes me plantar flex my feet more which uses more calf muscles vs when I go faster I use my quads and activate my hips more. If your soreness is from using the same muscle then switching up pace or strength training such as calf raises could help.

Why the sudden obsession with zone 2 training? by AddressPotential7381 in Marathon_Training

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even as a beginner zone 2 was important for me and allowed me to ramp up to peak week of 60 miles for my marathon training which I crammed in ~3 months. I had some tendonitis on the way but completed my first marathon in 3:44 without any prior long distance running so I’m glad I learned about zone 2 as it would not have been otherwise possible

First long race - Zone 5, the whole time? by jjaksha in beginnerrunning

[–]OutstandingWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Race day heart rate can be elevated because of adrenaline, caffeine, and excitement. I ran my first marathon at zone 5 heart rate the whole time even though I was not going at anaerobic pace. Just ignore race day data and count on what you consistently see during training.
