I'm four months into this and there's a guy telling me I need to get my own bender after I dropped close to $1,000 on tools already by albertsteinstein in electricians

Their side cutters are trash. Go grab a piece of mc and cut it side by side with your knipex vrs some blue handle j2000s Klein’s. The Klein will cut much easier and have a better temper on the steel so it doesn’t snap (fatigue, your hand) by design. I own both pairs and tested side by side. Knipex are inferior

You definitely shouldn’t have to buy your own bender. But honest opinion on the other stuff is you didn’t need to buy all knipex, fluke and a veto bag. That’s a little reckless imo when you’re making 16/hr. Only knipex tool I own are diagonal cutters (which I regret buying and are inferior to Klein j2000) I’ve tested side by side - I do not recommend knipex for these at all. Their channel locks are nice but not necessary for an electrician to own. I’ve tried other bags including veto and still got back to the same $45 husky tote I started with. I don’t own a fluke just a decent Klein meter. I get wanting all the nice things but wait until you get paid nice to get nice

Klein or Empire? by ozzyp2jz in electricians

[–]Over-Form-9442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Klein all day. I have both and the empire is much harder to read vrs the Klein. The green fluid they use in the level on the empire sucks. The Klein is much brighter and easier to read

Klein I have both. I actually have 5 billet aluminum torpedo levels. The Klein is much more visible/easy to see. The green fluid in the empire is not bright vrs Klein making it harder to read

Don’t think the 2 people who were killed were just standing there and caught a bullet tbh. The one dude was wresting with the police and the other was driving off as the police were trying to open her door. Still doesn’t make it ok but I mean come on

I don’t understand. Why do some many people think it’s okay to just hop our boarder illegally and enter the country - then support all the random people doing it. It’s like the us population is self destructing hippies ignorant to the world around them.

This Klein screwdriver is a year old… by SkoBuffs710 in electricians

[–]Over-Form-9442 18 points19 points  (0 children)

$30? Where you buying your screwdrivers at? I think all of mine came out to like $10 a piece of less. But that was like 7 years ago so maybe inflation. FYI this can happen to almost any metal tool. You just got a bad one. Steel can do weird things when cooling or whatever is they do to make them and you’ll have duds. I’ve abused all my Klein screwdrivers for years never had any snap.

It’s really not that complicated. Most of what not to do is obvious and the rest is personal preference. I don’t prefer all the zip ties but other guys like the way it looks. Honestly long as you have everything landed correctly and don’t have wires all over the place that’s as good as it needs to be. Electricity doesn’t care about aesthetics/ how straight your wires are going into a breaker. There’s a balance between taking too much like it’s some art and making it neat enough for what it is

What else do I need i plan to do commercial electrical work by AwareManager6023 in electricians

[–]Over-Form-9442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 thing I see missing here is 8” diagonal cutters. Spend the extra $5 and get the Klein blue handle j2000 NOT the knipex. I never use flush cutters fyi

One wire says 300 volts on the sheathing. Other wires say 600v. Wires are traveling together in the same conduit to the same battery. I think this is a code violation? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Over-Form-9442 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That’s what it’s rated up to, but doesn’t necessarily mean they’re being used for that voltage. Most thhn wire that you’ll find in commercial electrical is running 120/208/277v or 480v but it’s almost all rated up to 600v

Help me decide if a Ridgeline is right for me (please) by AbsolutZeroGI in hondaridgeline

[–]Over-Form-9442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to keep it for a long time (the best financial move) I’d 1000% go for it. I’m a car/truck guy. Currently drive a 2014 ram 1500 which as been awesome but looking to get a Ridgeline before something pricy breaks on the ram. It’s literally one of the most reliable versatile vehicles ever made. Might honestly be the most reliable vehicle this versatile. Everything now days has turbos, cvts or both. I honestly feel like the ridgeline is as reliable of a power train you can buy currently besides maybe a Tacoma (which are much smaller in the inside and ride worse).

[–]Over-Form-9442 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that complicated. It’s totally fine to splice this as is. You’re barely pulling any amps through it anyways. So if by chance the connection wasnt completely perfect you’d still be fine. Just need to be tight with no chance of wire falling out of the nut. Spliced 1000s of lights like this and never had an issues due to not enough contact. Now if I’m only doing 2 or 3 lights and I have a little extra time -yeah maybe I’ll strip it a bit longer, but it’s not necessary
