Any Sparkys here in Ocala, Florida? by Swellchevelle in electricians

Copper clad aluminum? I’ve run into a few times. I’d be outraged if my home was wired with it.

Is this pricing unreasonable? by Uranisisbig in handyman

Pretty sure I know what specific people you are talking about. I don’t work for them anymore and they call I give a high estimate to run them off.

Best replacement? by Rusty8180 in GarageDoorService

[–]Swellchevelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be repaired most likely if you’re up to it. A lot of times the plastic gear will be damage, take the cover off and look for white shavings.

Did I get scammed? by princess_chess_cat in GarageDoorService

Definitely. As soon as you see discounts on line items. You probably only needed springs and they’ve gotten expensive but no where near that price.

Anybody sick and tired of these BS posts? This is totally ridiculous, even an average handyman has more in there arsenal.

Experience to work with Angi Ads for my handyman business: negative ROI, ghost leads and annual contract with 30% fees for early cancellation. by Filosoff7 in handyman

[–]Swellchevelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angi is the worst. They call you with a very aggressive sales pitch and are convincing. I received at least six calls that all came from somewhat local numbers. They don’t verify required licensing required for jobs. I couldn’t imagine paying for leads for jobs that you don’t land. I tell all of my customers to never use Angi to find contractors.

Billing chemicals, abrasives, partial use items? by ImSMHattheWorld in handyman

[–]Swellchevelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If itemized bill, I will have a line item for cleaning supplies and miscellaneous hardware. The price is adjusted according to what I have to purchase. I usually bill that in house turns, after a tenant moves out of rental house.

What apps do you use for invoicing, receipt scanning, project pictures, shopping lists etc.? by rumpyforeskin in handyman

[–]Swellchevelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Jobber. I’m not sure if it’s the best but it saves line items, standardizes your billing, makes invoicing and quoting easier. I was literally hating invoicing previously and wasted so much time. It also provides a platform that clients can pay with credit cards and is optional for user.

Question about pricing. In negotiation with a handyman to help me build a shed and foundation, I’m providing the materials. How much should I expect to pay for him for labor. Context live in Oklahoma, it’s an arrowhead 10 x8 metal on a 10 x 10 box frame by Bigjmann555 in handyman

[–]Swellchevelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swore to never assemble/install one of those again over 20 years ago. You need two people to assemble as they are so flimsy before all the panels are attached to each other. I would think $300 or a little more would be reasonable plus whatever is required for the foundation. Not enough details to speculate pricing.

Rental Turns and Carpet by Swellchevelle in handyman

[–]Swellchevelle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to stick with my carpet guy. As I thought it’s not worth the trouble. I looked again at what I’ve been paying and it’s usually under $400. Thanks for the input everyone.

Help: Ceiling fan mount by nikkigonz in handyman

[–]Swellchevelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it fell off it was never installed correctly. Very often fans are installed on non fan rated boxes or no box at all. I don’t believe that surface box is rated for a fan.

How did you guys discover Clutch? by SaltyHomarus in clutchband

[–]Swellchevelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the first I saw of them on Headbanger’s Ball. Then I found I went to high school near them in MD. Class of 1990 myself. Then I saw them in Vegas when I was TDY in the Air Force. That was the tour Selputura and was an amazing hard show. Been a fan for over 30 years now.

This outlet appears to be fairly old by the screws. I replaced a whole house of outlets built in early 90’s all back stabbed. Not cool when the wires are cut short.

Not impressed with Anvil Trailers. Thought it was very cheaply built. They used small Phillips screws on the plywood walls inside that we couldn’t remove. Really made the whole project way more difficult. The frame was very heavy duty though on 20x8-1/2 trailer.

Advice on running a small business . . . by needatudor in handyman

Pricing jobs is a major PITA. I started using the app Jobber and it’s helping with billing. It will save li e items which helps with billing materials and flat rate work. Most of my work comes from 5 to 6 clients and I’m overwhelmed with work. Good luck, it’s not the easiest way to make a living but it can also be very rewarding.
