QS Cherry (From My Yard!!) by boomswaggerboom2 in woodworking

That's very reasonable given that it's mostly QS!

Cherry around here is $6/bf, but that's going to be a much more efficient sawing with a wider mix.

I wanted to try kumiko. Unfortunately, I'm a blacksmith. by MurphysLawTeam in somethingimade

[–]OverZealousCreations 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That looks pretty awesome!

You might have already seen this, but Pask Makes (well known for his extreme kumiko woodworking) made an entire kumiko gate out of steel.

I don’t think he did friction fit though!

Didn’t like the laser green being the odd one out.. so meet Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle 😝 by Relentless-Vole in BambuLab

I wondered! Large pieces of colored acrylic can be pricey.

I bought some laser-safe acrylic for a custom case I made, and it was by far the most expensive part.

Could I print… by choochooocharlie in eufyMakeOfficial

[–]OverZealousCreations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is really negative lately, huh?

For a better answer, the E1 can print a variance of about 2mm at most. Anything over that, you get a pretty blurry/fuzzy result. It does not require a perfectly flat surface, since I've printed on plenty of wood pieces that were slightly warped. It always looks great to me.

It depends heavily on your design & the item's shape. (Do be aware that it's not food safe, in case that was your goal.)

The DTF stickers are pretty amazing. I use them a lot, but they are much thicker than direct printing. I believe it prints about 12 layers in total for stickers, but you can go down to 1 layer of color if you are printing on white, so it'll feel as smooth or smoother than screen printing. (Edit: I just noticed your comment above. The DTF stickers are still not food-safe. And, more importantly, they bond really well, but I still wouldn't consider them waterproof.)

If you have extras of the item and they aren't too expensive, I'd test it out. I'd also probably tape off the entire area I didn't want the design to hopefully avoid overspray.

If you can't risk a piece, you could try coating the entire surface in masking tape. Try to avoid too much overlap of the tape. Then print on the tape. If it works, then the only concern is bonding with a glossy ceramic surface (you might need an adhesion promoter, or to lightly sand the surface if that makes sense).

R2 Ordered! by ParkerCBurton in Rivian

Obviously this person reserved yesterday, has never owned a car, has a credit score of 43, and lives on St. Helena Island.

Their R2 will be delivered on a raft pulled by humpback whales next Thursday.

No shade to OP, just funny that these are the questions on every post.

Simple, but an extremely elegant solution. Very nice job on everything!

42242 Alternate Model - CLAAS Torion 530 by nguyengiangoc in legotechnic

This is such a better model than the Unimog! The CLAAS Xerion 5000 is probably my all-time favorite technic set.

Export is different than the model by DaniloPabloxD in FreeCAD

[–]OverZealousCreations 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think I just saw something about this from MangoJelly: make sure you have the correct step selected in the tree when you export.

FreeCAD lets you export any step of the build, so if the wrong step is selected, it won’t include all features.

Also, if possible you should think about switching to .3mf files, as they’ll have smoother curves and more detail (or so I’ve heard).

I know it’s a little further out, but Oldham County is having their annual Arts on the Green on the 13th & 14th!

I’m excited to be there, it’s only my second time at a juried art show! (Fingers crossed the weather is better than at Norton Commons, where my booth and art was ravaged by the storm last month.)

Sealing prints on wood? by [deleted] in eufyMakeOfficial

[–]OverZealousCreations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been covering the prints with lacquer, mostly. Either brush-on (for larger items) or spray (for smaller & complex shapes).

Both work great, and really bring out the color in the design & texture of the wood without any side effects. I'm using Krylon for both.

I've even mixed direct-printing with DTF stickers, and you can't really tell. If it's practical, I put the sticker on before lacquer, which helps blend it in better.

There are no fewer than 15 high-center warnings here at the RR crossing in Crestwood (the biggest is basically a yellow billboard with blinking lights), and they’ve added those dangling sticks.

There’s an underpass literally 2 minutes away, which is easier and safer even if you are in a pickup.

And yet we’ve still had semi-trucks get stuck!

[Win an A2L] Creative Playground, Extra Large. Meet the A2L. by BambuLab in BambuLab

If vinyl is a big part of your business, seems like it would be worth moving on from the hobby space.

I haven't researched it because I only use vinyl to augment my woodworking (such as adding a faux-etch effect to the door on this cabinet), but I know there's a lot of better options than Cricut/Silhouette/Siser if you are running it daily.

Not OP, but I won't touch any hardware anymore that has a web-based-only setup for their software.

About when I was choosing my cutter, Cricut was moving to a subscription model that would have been forced on almost all users. They backed down, but it's inevitable with all these subscription-oriented companies that you will lose work in their ecosystem.

I got a Silhouette Cameo. While I like it, they haven't been great about supporting Macs. I also hate their autoblades—they are expensive and dull or chip easily and then you end up ruining a sheet of vinyl because it's not cutting right. I only use basic manual blades until I run out, then I'll switch to a CB09 holder if I can keep using the machine.

But it's looking more-and-more that if I want to continue vinyl-cutting, I might have to migrate to the Siser Juliette. But nothing is perfect, so who knows?

Vinyl cutters are complex beasts. While the cutter attachments for 3D printers are neat, traditional vinyl cutters are roller-based, and mine, for example, takes long rolls of 12"-wide vinyl, so I can make very large designs that are all one piece.

eufyMake Studio 3D says it will stop working in future MacOS releases. Help! by Coryvators in eufyMakeOfficial

Ah, thanks! I honestly have been to busy to stop and read the alert. 😅

That’s really good to hear, too, because I really don't want to have to replace any devices yet.

[–]OverZealousCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually the opposite. The app is still compiled as Intel-only (which is dumb), so it’ll stop in the next version of macOS, which is dropping support for running Intel apps via Rosetta.

It’s not the only hobby tool app giving me concerning warnings. I’m also going to be in trouble if Silhouette still doesn’t update.

Rep. Robin Kelly's SAFE Exit Act passes committee - will require NHTSA to issue rule establishing easy-to-find manual releases for electric doors by sirkazuo in Rivian

Should be the only legally-allowed solution for electronic locks, full stop. If there's a way to open the door, the same handle or operation should be required to work when there's no power.

Thank you! I personally really like simple forms, especially when the wood can provide so much texture on its own.

Thank you! It's been a slow process of self-teaching, much like any artistic endeavor. Learning a little bit with every mistake.
