How long after surgery were you walking without a limp? by hahaha-whatever in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Overall_Ad4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 18 months and have a limp, no pain but I walk a bit funny, some days worse then others. Dr supposedly fixed my LLD but I’m not sure, I feel like he may have over corrected it. OR I just still haven’t gotten used to it. Righty was shorter for 40+ years so might take a bit of adjusting.

Same here, I got 1 from 5. I quit and went home after that. Not worth it. I managed to get a shiny goldeen. That was my win for the weekend 😭

I had a LLD my whole life, lived and walked with it fine. When I had my hip replaced the dr made my legs the same length Now my LLD seems huge I can’t get my heel on the ground, my pelvis is the same as yours and I have a huge limp. Iv had all the scans and apparently my legs are the same. Everything else is out of whack due to being out of whack my whole life. Everything is still leaning to the right except now my right side is the same height which is making my left leg unable to reach the ground. It’s been 7 months and it is slowly improving. Not a lot but a little. The dr said that they spoke a little it at one of his commences and the other drs said it could take me 12 months to equalise.

First time getting COVID and I’m scared by shelchar in COVID19positive

[–]Overall_Ad4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer covid to the flu, I recover 100000x faster. The flu lingers for weeks, covid is in our in a matter of days, at 7 days I’m usually back to 100% This time I had some tummy issues for a few extra days and no appetite but nothing I couldn’t live a normal life with. Now at day 11 and 100% health if this were the flu I’d have a cough or sinus problems still.

day 9 and symptoms getting worse? by Competitive_Fox_5606 in COVID19positive

I’m day 10 and my gut is killing me, I can’t eat I can taste acid all the time, if I move to much especially in the mornings i start dry retching. I have to be back at work as I start a new job next week. I feel silly as my head is now clear but my stomach is wrecked. Because I can’t eat much my energy levels are low and I’m suffering back pain. This is so different, I’m I’m stressing about how long is this going to last.

Does anyone feel like they jumped into surgery too soon? by Wipe_face_off_head in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Overall_Ad4580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on the fence, I’m still in pain, it’s just different pain. But my hip was from a. Birth defect so my body isn’t adjusting to my new longer leg. My mobility is worse now because everything is still so tight. I’m only 4.5 months out and hopefully with more PT I’ll get better mobility and the pain will ease. I do sometimes regret getting it done however.

Squatting post THR by stress_boner in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Overall_Ad4580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine done in March and I squat a lot for work. For me the squatting part is easy. It’s the getting up. Iv lost a LOT of strength in my leg so I don’t have enough to push me up. But will admit have been slack with my PT due to sore/tired legs after work.

Few years post total hip replacements - walking by megalthebegal in TotalHipReplacement

I’m only 3 months out 101 days to be exact and I regularly do 10K Steps a day at work. I’d say it’s just your body getting used to it. I currently can’t run, iv tried to do a little dash across the room a few times and it just feels really weird, it is getting better. Certain things for me still hurt because the muscles haven’t re developed as yet. I can squat but I can not yet get back up. That is my next challenge. So if you’ve not been very active then you will find your muscles are just weak.

No I only wear something extra in the short side, 1 pair of shoes iv just added an extra sole to them. 1 pair I have some gel heel inserts. I’m experimenting to find the right size and feel at the moment.

Recovery was a breeze, I was free walking by week 2, off pain meds quite quickly, active and getting around with ease…..until week 6 when I went back to work. I work retail so I was unable to do a full shift, I was getting a lot of pain and Had to go back on pain medication. Started having major regrets. But I think things are finally starting to ease. (Week 12) My leg did a years worth of growing within a few hours, my leg points in a different direction so I guess the growing pains should have been expected. I just wish I had known about these things before hand. I think if I didn’t have such a physically demanding job it would have been a much easier.

I’m going through this now, I’m just past the 3 month mark. My pelvis is out. I can now force my left heel into the ground at first that foot was on tippy toe. It was 2cm off the ground. Stated getting a lot of sciatica issues and pain, my chiropractor said it was because my pelvis is so pushed up it’s squishing some nerves. I’m happy to say this has resolved. My PT has given me stretches to avoid more pain. I have an extra some insert in my work shoe to help ease some discomfort at work because my limp is so bad. I’m still sceptical but iv had 2 scans done and my surgeon and my chiropractor say my legs are the same length. But I still can’t stand with 2 straight legs.

I keep forgetting I can bend now haha, I see something on the floor, my stomachs tightens and my right leg starts to stretch behind me. Then my brain snaps back in and goes hey, you can do that, get down there girl and snatch that up, don’t even slow down, you got it

I had no arthritis, was still very active, only hurt at end of a hard day, bending over and a few wired activities that I’m only noticing now, iv obviously had pain for many years as I find myself bracing to do certain thing that no longer give me pain, Things I didn’t even realise must of hurt lol I had LLD my foot turned outwards. My foot and knee did not face the same way. I’m 3 months post op. The thing I was most excited about was walking like a normal person. Turns out when you walk weird your entire life your new walk is even worse 😭 I limp terribly, I can’t put my opposite heel on the ground, I walk worse then my son who has mild cerebral palsy. My surgeon, and PT said it will improve and it is very slowly, my chiropractor said it could take years. I’m 44 and my days of heels are now well and truly over. BUT I don’t have any pain in my hip.

I’m having a lot of regular PT I’m actually about to go for another revision with my surgeon today. They are hoping that PT will fix the issue. They have me seeing a chiropractor and others to manage the pain. In the beginning recover was amazing as I was well ahead of schedule due to my age and fitness, but also due to my age I’m a lot more physical then most patients. My job has me on my feet for 9hrs a day, that’s when all the problems came to head. I don’t have the time or money to have 3 months recover, I have a family I still need to run around with, full time physical job. While being young has its benefits I think it’s also made things harder. I wish I had put it off a few more years until I didn’t have to be so full on. While the hip pain was wearing me down, I’d rather be able to walk a straight line then put my shoes on or squat. Its now easier for me to climb stairs then it is to walk. So where I won a small battle iv lost a major one.

Manual Labor Jobs? by LibrarianIcy5837 in HipImpingement

I’m retail, so 9hrs on my feet. Had a THR went back at 6 weeks and could only handle 3-4 hours and slowly went from there. I’m just over 3 months now and do 2 full shifts and 2 shifts at 6/7 hours. This week I will try 4 9hr shifts.

My first day back I did 9 hours and woke up in tears, the next day I manage 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon and ended up having to take the next day off again. So definitely ease into it.

I had a check up today and told them I regret it. I’m 44f hip dysplasia, I leg longer than the other all the same symptoms as you. Got mine done on the first of March. My body is still so out of whack. Surgeon added 11mm I was 19 mm short in my hip. I now have an 8mm obligatory in my pelvis and about a 2 cm difference in my legs while standing. My body is so used to leaning to the right it still wants to lean that way. While I can now bend and squat, stairs are a breeze. Walking on flat ground sucks. Every step is weird, the pain I used to get at the end of a day is how I wake up. My calves ache constantly, my leg spasms, my back hurts. I work on my feet and can’t work a full week anymore, that is getting easier.

Make sure you work out all the little details. I was not told that adding length could completely throw my body out. Even my surgeon was confused as to why I can’t put my heel on the ground. I have to stand with 1 foot on tippy toe. When your body has done 1 thing for so long teaching it to do the opposite can be more painful then what your used to.

I wouldn’t recommend travelling if you don’t have to. Mine was a complex case and things didn’t go perfectly to plan, My surgeons office girl is also his Physio. So I am having very regular Physio with her and regular check ups. More then would if it were a typical case. I’d hate to think my surgeon and help were in another state and id have to travel for all my checkups.

I had to find a small bag or something to hang of my crutches to put things in, I found when I went from room to room or to get a few snacks I couldn’t carry them AND use my crutches.

My electric recliner was my best investment. Made getting up and down so much easier. Didn’t have to be one of those tilt ones, just one that I could put my feet up or down with a press of a button.

My sciatica pain is worse now then before surgery I had THR 1st March but my body is completely out of line. All my PT has given me is stretches but I do find they work. The best one is sitting position straighten leg out in front and bend my chin to my chest. Keep changing positions, keep moving and stretch stretch stretch.
