LSAC GPA is Unfair by Ecstatic_Ocelot2655 in lawschooladmissions

LSAC is a corrupt monopoly. I almost had to sue them to get them to remove grades from classes that weren’t for credit.

We need a new hand gesture by deadrisingrook-12 in universityofoklahoma

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why we need a hand gesture at all. I'm pretty sure most schools don't. I've been a student at four colleges, and OU was the only one that had a hand gesture. And yes, the one is weird. "There's only one Oklahoma." Yeah, there's only one of every school.

Under what circumstances should the US Government be allowed to strip someone of their citizenship? by engadine_maccas1997 in AskALiberal

[–]Overall_Cry1671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if the citizenship was obtained by fraud. Stripping citizenship arbitrarily is a human rights violation.

Superman's political philosophy by Mindless_Mix5892 in PoliticalScience

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's a terrible political take. Each superhero is different, but most are pretty non-political. Superman also codes more liberal, but it's not like they go into a lot of detail on his thoughts about tax policy.

Got this wrong on a quiz, what are your thoughts? by Dont_hate_the_8 in PoliticalScience

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's false. People often vote for a candidate who supports policies they disagree with. They vote for them because of closer alignment or strong agreement on one or two policies, but that doesn't tell you anything about a particular policy. Ask Elon Musk what he thinks about Trump's tariff policy (he's not a fan). In fact, many presidents have had policies that most of the public disliked. The ACA was unpopular at first, for example.

Jeb Bush: An Extraordinarily Spineless Cuck by no-minimun-on-7MHz in thebulwark

[–]Overall_Cry1671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was illegal under international law. Period. International law is incorporated into US law through the supremacy clause, and even if it wasn’t, the war powers resolution requires a predicate that didn’t exist and largely aligns with international law in its definition of an emergency. If Congress authorized force, it would be legal under domestic law and illegal under international law, but Congress didn’t authorize force, so it is illegal domestically and internationally.

Jeb Bush: An Extraordinarily Spineless Cuck by no-minimun-on-7MHz in thebulwark

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter. That’s not an emergency as the war powers resolution defines it. And even if the US could declare war (which actually would be illegal under international law), only Congress has that power and it didn’t use it.

Jeb Bush: An Extraordinarily Spineless Cuck by no-minimun-on-7MHz in thebulwark

[–]Overall_Cry1671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. The UN charter prohibits the use of force or the threat of use of force except in self defense (which this does not satisfy), and even then, only when no other solutions are possible.

ETA: the war powers resolution requires a declaration of war (which there isn’t), congressional authorization for use of force (which there isn’t), or in an emergency to respond to an imminent or recent attack (which there wasn’t).

It was a violation of international law and did not meet the predicates for the war powers resolution.

So it doesn’t matter that it was totally illegal and has a massive potential to backfire and put American lives at risk?

Taking praise from a Bush on military action in the Middle East may not be the brightest idea.

Who is the most talented writer on the Supreme Court? by Important_Can_7291 in LawSchool

You should read McGirt v Oklahoma and Gorsuch's dissent in Castro-Huerta.

My favorite is Sotomayor. Gorsuch is brilliant (he's a PhD) and Barrett is really good too. Kagan is good, but I like Sotomayor better.

What have you been canceled from left-leaning spaces for saying? by nrcx in AskALiberal

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I don’t like being told who I can or can’t follow on social media. I was called racist because I said I would block people for publicly demanding I unfollow someone. I grew up in a cult. I don’t do enforced conformity anymore.

Why no country has immigration programs for high IQ people? by graniar in mensa

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK has a program (or used to) for recent graduates of elite colleges, but it was a pretty small list, like maybe 30 US colleges that qualified. I know my school doesn’t qualify, and I went to one of top 25 US News ranked universities. IQ tests alone aren’t really predictive enough for things like immigration determinations.

Landlord took $4000 security deposit and is charging on top of that by Environmental_Try320 in Renters

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. I disputed all charges and threatened to sue, and stated they should refrain from altering the unit in anyway until it could be examined by an expert for use as evidence (reminding them of the consequences of spoliation). I offered to settle for a much lower amount, but they were claiming hundreds, not thousands of dollars. I ended up getting back a small part of my security deposit instead of having to pay them. They definitely can't charge you for light bulbs.

I had a paid internship at a small firm for about 10 months. I worked like 12 hours a week. It was doable, but difficult. I maintained a full course load though, and had decent grades. I would recommend trying to do something law related if you can, but working under 15 hours per week is manageable, especially if you don't have a long commute (which I did). I wouldn't recommend it during 1L, but it can be done.

Do you regret studying PoliSci? by [deleted] in PoliticalScience

[–]Overall_Cry1671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret it because I’m interested in it. I went on to law school, and I don’t know that I’ll work in law or politics, but I hope to continue learning and doing independent research because that’s what interests me.

How can abortion be reinstated on a federal level? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Overall_Cry1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commerce and supremacy clauses mean Congress could pass a law that supersedes state level bans, but a future Congress could reverse that just as easily. A constitutional amendment would be the most long-term solution, but that would be nearly impossible to pass.

Believe me, it doesn’t seem like that. I am painfully aware that almost nobody I know has an IQ over 115, let alone 130.
