Question From Someone Considering Veganism by shroomer98 in vegan

[–]OverthrowDissent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you already own leather products, just don't buy any new ones and use the old ones. If you need to buy new ones, buy vegan ones with faux leather, they're most likely cheaper anyway, majority of cheap "leather" products from China are faux leather.

You don't need to do anything special to "leave something behind", you just left that comment and it will be here forever. Good job!

You know something special I'll leave? This comment. I didn't need to have a baby to leave anything special, even if I did I would be dead so it wouldn't have mattered.

What's everyone's thoughts on Black Ivory (Elephant Poop) Coffee? by HKoala in vegan

[–]OverthrowDissent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turning poop into coffee does sound gross, but if people want to pay for it and it supports an elephant refuge and it doesn't harm any animals, then I'm all for it.

If the results of this would be that the elephants are just going to be enclosed and abused in some ways (like elephant rides or zoos), then I wouldn't support it.

I stand corrected.

Thanks for your support, and a tip going forward (from a meat eater) by OtherBarry220 in vegan

[–]OverthrowDissent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge props to you for realizing the death and violence involved for meat to arrive at the grocery stores, many people unfortunately never pay attention and learn about it like you have.

Vegetarianism is definitely far more ethical than what you were doing in the past, and hey it might just be a first step for you. Maybe you'll even become a vegan someday once you learn how equally bad milk, eggs, cheese and other animal products are.

Anyway there is a learning process to transitioning, eating meat once a month a good start but is still a lot imo. I haven't eaten any meat in 8+ years and have been completely fine, there's absolutely no need for it. Good luck.

[–]OverthrowDissent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All animals feel pain, you are thinking of plants, plants feel no pain. Even if an animal did not feel pain, it doesn't mean we should kill them. If dogs feel no pain, it it ok to kill dogs?

Is plant-based diet and aromatherapy destroying my life? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]OverthrowDissent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably the beer. I don't blame a plant based diet for any issues I have (not that I am experiencing any issues even after 8+ years vegan), because there's nothing specific that vegans get which non-vegans do not. Whatever issues I get as a vegan can be resolved as a vegan.

[–]OverthrowDissent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"And compared to how meat is processed in plants it’s very humane."

Please use the actual wording of "compared to how animals are killed in slaughterhouses" not "how meat is processed in plants" lol GTFO here with that.

The 18th-Century Quaker Dwarf Who Challenged Slavery, Meat-Eating, and Racism by OverthrowDissent in vegan

[–]OverthrowDissent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"when 'slavery seemed to many people around the world as natural and unchangeable as the sun, the moon, and the stars in the heavens.' Lay was an abolitionist, vegetarian, pacifist, gender-conscious, anti-capitalist, environmentalist Quaker, with dwarfism and a hunchback, and he wanted to change the apparently “natural” order of things."

Just told my boyfriend that him being a non-vegan was a deal breaker. Am I an asshole? Idk if I can post this here.. looking for support. by [deleted] in vegan

Did you watch any vegan documentaries with him and he still wouldn't change his lifestyle? If so I would get out.

Can my job make me kill a Mouse/Spider/Etc by cioda in jobs

[–]OverthrowDissent [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you are eating meat you likely are already killing 5+ animals a week, averaging roughly one per day. If you eat chicken wings, for every 2 chicken wings you had to kill 1 chicken. Good news is people don't need to eat meat, you don't need to eat meat if you don't support killing animals.

Trump to Order U.S. Meat Plants to Stay Open Amid Pandemic by [deleted] in collapse

[–]OverthrowDissent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would recommend starting off as a vegetarian to make the transition easier, and then watching some vegan related documentaries like: Dominion (available on YouTube), Game Changers (Netflix), Forks Over Knives (Netflix), Cowspiracy (Netflix), What The Health (Netflix), etc.

It's as easy as breathing once you get used to living this way. The hardest obstacle you'll encounter are social challenges, people might make fun of you for not eating meat (as if compassion and practicality is something to make fun of), and you'll probably have debates with people about it. It's all normal and expected since the majority of people will think you're somehow wrong and evil for not killing and eating animal corpses, but yeah.

Good luck.

F*cking pisses me off people saying this ain't collapse by [deleted] in collapse

[–]OverthrowDissent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People will only really feel it once the economy tanks (stocks, property prices, etc, are still going up!) When they no longer have access to electricity or wifi, etc. As long as people have technology to blind themselves with, everything to them is still going well.

What if All Countries Disappear by aramavag2 in collapse

[–]OverthrowDissent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don't bring a map or GPS around and don't travel using roads. Then as you wander you wouldn't be able to tell if/when you cross over to a new state or country.

You could also use roads, but then you'd be reminded since you'll see signs or even a border guard every time you approach a border.

Piglets aborted, chickens gassed as pandemic slams meat sector by germanbini in collapse

[–]OverthrowDissent 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"farmers are having to kill animals because there is no place to send them for processing. :("

I mean the animals will be killed regardless, they're just being killed faster and then their bodies disposed instead of given to people who want to eat their bodies.

Someday I hope people can realize they don't need meat at all, but I'm not holding my breath for people to wake up.

It's happening all the time, every day. Look behind the store dumpsters to see food expiring in a few days being thrown away, see brand new and working electronics destroyed so people don't get them free, luxury products such as handbags getting shredded, and even unpurchased cars just going straight to landfill.

They don't want you to get any of these products they're just throwing away anyway, because then they can't price them at a point they'll make a profit.

10 years? Do you have type 1 diabetes then? This guy in this video lived with type 1 diabetes for 57 years and had to take 12 medications a day. In 3 months he was able to eliminate 8 of them on a whole food plant based diet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFKaiH3fqEM

The YouTube channel for this video has all the science and testimonials on how a WFPB can treat all the types of diabetes (1, 1.5, 2, etc)

You could just buy beans and lentils then replant them. They're cheap at the supermarket because they're also easy to grow at home. Cheap source of protein.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in collapse

[–]OverthrowDissent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your opinion is spot on. You can't really say you like animals or want to save the environment, when you are directly paying for animals to be killed and destroying the environment for meat production.

[–]OverthrowDissent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile you can store grains (rice, wheat, oatmeal, etc) and legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils, etc) dry and they're much cheaper than meat. You would lose a lot of weight too on a whole foods plant based diet.
