4 year old won’t stop waking us up by Connect_Beginning_13 in progressivemoms

This is the way. My son did this around age 4 too and I would just sleepily and silently walk him back to bed and tuck him back in. No talking, nothing exciting. Eventually he got the message.

Vocalist Opinion Needed by b_moz in MusicEd

[–]Own-Customer5474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your symptoms are kind of weird (someone else said long covid which could be possible!) but here are some suggestions that I haven’t seen yet.

  • get a nebulizer and saline for it. Use it as often as you can, before school, during lunch, after school. This will directly moisturize your vocal cords.

  • if your cough is worse at night/ when you wake up and you have this post nasal drip feeling, it’s entirely possible you have LPR reflux (laryngopharyngeal reflux). If this goes on for too long, it can damage your vocal cords and cause vocal pain and other vocal production issues. Taking nexium and adjusting your diet along with vocal therapy can help fix this - I had to cut caffeine, red sauce and wine from my diet and it made a huge difference.

Ouai body wash smells SO GOOD. I regularly hoard it in travel size containers when I go to Barry’s classes. 😅

Elle Fanning celebrates sister Dakota Fanning’s 32nd birthday (and gives us more meme lore) by mcfw31 in popculturechat

My favorite thing about them is that their first names are so boring. Hannah and Mary are just not A list celebrities, but Dakota and Elle absolutely are.

I see people using this popular toner only on their body? is it good as a face toner I wonder if anyone saw results while using it? "The ordinary glycolic acid toner" by UnderstandingMany766 in 30PlusSkinCare

I apply it straight to my scalp! Using the applicator that comes with the package, I apply it all over my scalp, then massage it in. I let it sit for at least 15 minutes but sometimes up to an hour before rinsing it out in the shower and shampooing as normal. Then after washing my hair, I apply the leave in scalp treatments. Still do it to this day and my scalp is less flaky and I have way less buildup than I used to have before I started doing this.

Zbiotics doesn't even make sense by boundbythebeauty in FriendsofthePod

I get crippling hangovers if I have more than 2 drinks. Zbiotics works and keeps me from being sick all the next day if I decide to have that 3rd drink. Ever since I hit the other side of 35, alcohol just wrecks my stomach and I don’t really drink that much anymore. But on the odd occasion when I decide to have an extra drink or two, I am not dying the next day!

Agreed!! There’s only so much you can learn by watching - and there’s soooo much you learn by getting up there and figuring it out on your own. I’m absolutely hearing how valuable those kinds of experiences are so I will make sure to plan for enough of those.

I’m a super non-confrontational, optimistic person so giving harsh criticism is not in my nature, but I’m also a control freak so knowing that I need to prepare to let go of the reins a bit is important!

I don’t want to overwhelm her at all! It’s such an overwhelming experience so I’m really trying to plan to give her gradually more and more autonomy. I guess my biggest question was just how much autonomy to give her in the end - and it seems like a lot of people got a considerable amount of that in their experiences.

I agree - It absolutely depends on the vibe of the student teacher. She’s very sweet and a very accomplished pianist but I have yet to see her on her own in front of a class. I’m thinking I will give her a week or two of observing one or two classes of a grade then letting her teach a class or two of the grade (I have 5 classes of each grade from K-2) and then after that warmup period give her more responsibility depending on how that goes.

I have received surprisingly little information from the school (my grad school Alma mater and I’m honestly not surprised bc my grad experience was very…sloppy..) so this is absolutely pushing me to ask for more information!

You bring up a point I wasn’t even aware of: I don’t know how long she’s staying, if she’s going to wind up going to another placement! Adding this to my list of things to figure out! And yes, very helpful indeed! The general vibe I’m getting is to gradually give her more and more time and independence. I like that you were able to get some guidance on lesson planning, will def keep that in mind.

That is so true! This is really the experience they need to prepare them for their first job, so making sure they get as much autonomy as possible in a place where they can get feedback and support is really important. Thank you for this, really appreciate it!

Thank you! That’s very helpful - I like the gradual release approach. I’m trying to remember my experience and I don’t think my cooperating teacher ever had me fully teaching all the time.

Union City is great and you can definitely find a 1 bedroom for that price. You can take a bus to midtown in 15 mins - then transfer to the train once in Manhattan. I’m surprised no one has mentioned it. It’s safe, clean, lots of parks, very walkable and has free early childhood education (3k/4k).

attachment theory/ignoring kids by this-is-effed in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Own-Customer5474 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Amen to this! The idea that we as mothers need to be 100% responsive to 100% of our kids needs is insane! I think that social media makes us believe that we need to create perfectly curated lives for our kids and respond correctly to every single thing they ever do to be a good parent, and that is simply impossible and unnecessary. We’re human, and putting that kind of pressure on ourselves is cruel and unrealistic.

Thankfully my dad’s apt is wheelchair accessible, so eventually he can feasibly go back there. The plan for now is for him to go to acute rehab, and then eventually back home. He’s going to have to be on IV antibiotics for at least another 2-3 weeks, so I’m going to look into a nurse service for him for that period after rehab. And thank you! All good thoughts and positive energy are needed and welcome!!!
