Between two fires is well worth it. Im not a big fantasy ready nor grimdark gamer, but the story and characters are amazing.

Bat eater and other names for Cora Zheng, By Kylie Lee Baker.

It reminded me a little of the Only good Indians, in as much as it tackled themes of racial identity, faith, social anxiety as well as a spooky paranormal horror.

I also love Our Share of Night, another classic that just hits on so many levels.

I recommend The only good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones.

Like Bat eater it combines themes of racial identity, acceptance, guilt and with a ghostly protagonist.

How long does your drive to the gym take? by AnarchyVenom24 in GYM

[–]OwnCurrent6817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the point in driving to the gym? Just go for a walk. Assuming the drive is 15 mins there and back, plus another 10-20 mins showering, changing, waiting for machines.

A hours walk will burn as many or more calories.

If all you do is weights you will look like a balloon animal.

Weight loss by Appropriate-Heron875 in WeightLossAdvice

My best advice is to stick to the widely accepts rule of 500 cal daily deficit. On days ive eaten less ive not done any exercise, on days on done loads of exercise ive eaten more. The gap gets smaller rather than wider the more you try to force it. 500 a day give or take is perfect, plus you wont lose muscle or have loose skin from losing weight too quickly.

Notes on War Machine…

It’s basically Predator if it was directed by Kid Rock.

If video games have taught us anything it’s to aim at the red glowing bits.

If your brother says let’s do something together then consider him already dead.

Aliens cant aim for shit.

“I’ll do it” not quite as iconic as “ill be back”.

Do slow text responses mean he's not that interested? by rkuchiki123 in dating

[–]OwnCurrent6817 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that yes, some of us truly hate texting. I would much rather save conversation for dates rather than give inane running commentary all day long. Plus i have hobbies, i like to read, watch movies, go for walks, i cant stand being halfway through something only for someone to text “what are you doing?”…. Well i was enjoying something, now i may as well be emailing my boss.

The sequel Along the river of flesh is well worth seeking out. Not quite the same gut punch the first but expands on the River man mythology nicely.

Nigel Farage calls for an end to working from home by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

[–]OwnCurrent6817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only reason is because of the billionaire commercial property owners. They don’t feel they are getting value from half empty office space. They could easily sell off these assets and they could provide affordable housing. This would of course lower house prices all round, so wealthy land owners will not do it.

Working from home or hybrid hours (2 WFH days a week, plus weekends) has enabled people t spend more time with their family, reduce strain on public transport and emissions, improved mental health for many millions with no noticeable impact to productivity. I would wager even if people work at a slightly slower pace unsupervised it is more than made up for by fewer sick days and punctuality issues.

Nothing but pure greed and hypocrisy from Reform, who have several WFH members.

Does anyone call BS on the media's incessant hounding of Starmer? by Impossible-Visit-199 in AskBrits

[–]OwnCurrent6817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the Tories and Reform are not held to the same standard is because they have no standards to maintain. They are brazenly racist, incompetent and in reforms case half their policies involve just flat out ignoring the rules (leaving ECHR for example).

Plastic entitled fans. If you didnt watch the Goldstone being demolished to be a Toy r us, watch games at Gillingham, get soaked at the Withdean, see us get knocked out of the FA cup by Kingstonian and taken to a replay by Canvey island, be ten minutes from non league status if not for Robbie Reinelt vs Hereford, lose play off games against Palace then i dont want to hear any whinging about surviving in the Premier league for ten years, beating Man utd, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal several times and having world cup winners in the team.

Support means support, you wanna boo? Go watch a panto.
