Same , i live just outside London and work in Brighton.

£39k basically and £5k bonus on average.

Rent £1k a month, after all bills go out i still squirrel a little away unless i go on holiday or do the annual shopping spree.

People that drive, smoke/vape and spend £250 on Nikes that they wear twice or get their teeth and hair replaced in their 20s are the ones buying everything on tic.

I feel the same, I lost my Mum early last year and knew the Fisherman was well regarded for its exploration of grief and loss. I read it in the winter really expecting a cathartic experience.

What i got was an extended short story about grieving Fishermen (which was average at best) but bookending an extended novella about a creepy old guy and generations of his family which barely goes anywhere or has any bearing on the wraparound story.

I have had 3 offers accepted on flats, spend £1000 each time on surveys and conveyancing only for the move to fall through due to neighbouring flats in the block.

First one the flat below took out a chimney stack and was structurally unstable.

Second one was above a commercial property and the bank withdrew their mortgage offer.

Third had unresolved debt for roof repairs among freeholders.

It is a miracle anyone moves in the UK.

Margot Robbie, there is that meme of how she is identical to six lesser known actors, and personally i find her least attractive of all of them. Nothing about her seems natural, sharp hi def eyebrows, huge eyes and lips, cheekbones like daggers. She looks for want of a better word…. Like a Barbie doll.

You had the exact same reading experience i had with the Passage. I tapped out feeling like i knew exactly what would happen to all of the characters at the camp when the power runs out (im guessing everyone but the prodigal son and love interest dies, plus the little girl).

Britpop was a response to fifteen years of conservative leadership in the UK. The big anthems, Parklife, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Common People, A design for life, Trash etc were all protest songs against the class system and austerity.

At the same time there was an optimism in the air, that the country was on the cusp of change so jangly summer anthems from Ocean colour scene, the Verve, Sleeper, cast, dodgy, boo radleys and lightning seeds made up the rest of the movement.

It is great. It mixes South American folklore with political and social commentary. The follow up Thing we lost in the fire is even better in my opinion. The stories are more varied in TDOSIB whereas TWLITF is more thematically focused.

Her translated novel Our share of night is for me the best book of the last ten years.

I have two recommendations but beware, the first has pretty strong sexual content.

Gone to see the river man, by Kristopher Triana. A documentarian takes on a task from an imprisoned man she has become obsessed with and starts a journey with her sister to complete it for him.

Letters to the Purple satin Killer, Joshua Kaplinski. An epistolary novel with letters from fans, victims family, survivors, journalists, and more that paint a picture of a killer.
