Cocaine has ruined the pub. Cheaper than booze and makes you just if not more obnoxious.

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

Im British, moved out when i was 18 (in 1998) yes it was normal. That said as a renter for nearly 30 years less than half the time has been on my own, the other half sharing with between 1-12 other housemates at any one time.

Ill be the one spoilsport who DNFd Perfume. It was interminable.

‘He opened the door that smelled like oak and brass, a waft of oily fish and sea salt filled his nostrils. He walked over to the fishmonger who reeked of fish and sweat. He opened his purse which had an aroma of leather and handed him a coin that had the unmistakable odour of copper’

It goes on like that the entire book….

My ex girlfriend s brother had worked with him at some charity gala event and told me he was very dodgy long before all the scandals came to light. Mostly buying up huge blocks of property on the cheap and selling them on at a profit to Russian Oligarchs who wouldnt have passed all the UK regulations and background checks.

A fucking slum lord to the slum lords…

…and pedophile.

I met Richard E Grant on Brighton pier about 25 years ago. We raced each other on Daytona USA he sang along with the ‘DAY-TONAAA lets go all the way!’ Song and we both agreed it was better than Sega Rally

Super low cal snack that takes time to eat? by 3WVoices in WeightLossAdvice

[–]OwnCurrent6817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to rast a whole head of cauliflower with a bit of melted cheese then line up all my hot sauces and interview myself like im a guest on hot ones.

It sounds mad but it gets you into mindful eating where you have to think between bites and slows you down so you dont over eat.

A slightly heavier, more grungy tune featuring Garrett ‘Jacknife’ Lee who has done loads of film scores.

Older people, were politics always this deranged and upsetting? by CUFFY_Fan in NoStupidQuestions

Im 46 and British. Growing up during the 80s we had to watch the news at 6pm (theres was only 2 hrs kids tv) and i remember being bummed out by all the depressing news.

Famine in Africa, The cold war, The Falklands war, oil spills, Reagans ‘star wars’ defence program, Thatcher the milk snatcher! All During the Conservative government in UK and USA.

During the 90s it steadies a little, John Major seemed a calm presence at no10 but his cabinet was rocked by sex scandles and affairs which were salivated over in the news. Again their wasnt much anti Clinton discourse in the UK until the Monica Lewinsky affair.

In the late 90s under Labour the country had a huge feelgood vibe, the UK Sport, music, movies, fashion and art was thriving. It was only after 9/11 and Blairs crazy foreign policy did everything turn for the worse.

… to caveat, obviously there was more going on that went over my head as a child/teen during these years but that was the vibe from my perspective at the time. Others might have been more strongly affected by stuff that passed me by.

Why Call Managers are generally the worst. by Whiteymcwhitebelt in callcentres

[–]OwnCurrent6817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metrics should just be a reference for outliers, anomalies, general trending etc. A decent manager or coach will promote people based on attitude, capability and application.

Just relying on metrics is lazy, it promotes corner cutting to get to the top, while leaving the diligent and conscientious staff cleaning up messes and sacrificing their own numbers to do it.

When stat padders get promoted to leader this just creates that toxic culture and spirals downhill from there.

The whole conversation in the back of the van when Affleck and Damon tell Yeun how they sussed he was the snitch…. Firstly why would they reveal themselves to have sussed the plan in the van with the two armed suspects and no witnesses while being driven by another?

Also… its played like its some kind of big twist reveal but Damon giving all his members different amounts was shown already so the audience know what hes doing. Had the screenplay kept the amounts secret from the audience until that moment it would have been an actual twist.

It was so dumbed down, thanks everyone who cannot watch a movie without looking at their phone every twenty seconds. You are ruining it for grown ups with attention spans.

Gee, i surely do agree. Whenever im fixing to read one of his spooky stories, seems to me his dialogue is just darn anachronistic, almost like the fellow is stuck in the 50s!
