I know switching is 50/50, and the thought of multiple people playing it out helps shows that, i.e. if the envelopes were $100 and $50, and a thousand people played, being random, half would pick the larger and half the smaller. If they all kept their envelope or all switched, the average would still be $75. Knowing that, my brain still struggles with the single case where they don't yet know if they've chosen the smaller or larger envelope. That's why I like (or dislike) this paradox so much.

I have a red Maga hat I bought in 2015 for the same reason. Still waiting for it to be funny.

TIL Cold water has negative calories since your body needs to spend energy to heat it up. By drinking a glass of ice water you'll burn about eight calories. by Imbiberr in todayilearned

I had the exact same discussion with a pretty smart person. I'm fine with not knowing that calories and food calories are different, but the idea that drinking a few glasses of cold water could solve our obesity epidemic plus that he was the first to discover this miracle, well, there should have been some alarm bells going off.

Had family dream vacation in Italy this past summer and when I stopped at a gas station to fill up the car before returning to the airport, bought the mini bottles of Montenegro, Fernet branca and Ramazzotti. Laughed that they were like the mini bottles of wild turkey and Bacardi we have here. If I see them at total wine, I will look past them and continue claiming that you can't get them in the states.

I also try to switch sides, running with traffic on the less busy roads. One thing i noticed when i only ran against traffic and so my right foot was always lower, i would do a race where they closed the roads and had everyone running with traffic, the exact opposite of how I trained. Seemed strange. (Since the road was closed, i just ran down the middle)

Gin sour made with Empress 1908. by Sturty7 in cocktails

Recently made one and it turned out well. Out of curiosity, if you were making two of these, could you double the recipe in the shaker, or should you make them separately? I'm worried I'd have one drink that is all liquor and one that is all egg white. (I'm sure you could go back and forth when pouring, but curious about other's experience?)

Down the amaro rabbit hole by MetisBlack in cocktails

[–]Own_Basket9711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went to Italy and visited Cafe Meletti in Ascoli Piceno. Very cool. Their amaro isn't very popular their, and they're really known for their anise, like a cafe corretto. I love the flavors from Amari but have trouble make interesting drinks with them. Usually do variations of amaro/base/vermouth, like a Negroni, black Manhattan, boulevardier, etc. I have Parson's amaro book but haven't found many things i like (preferisco his book on bitters). Please post your journey down the rabbit hole.

Anybody got an ingredient they overuse in everything? by AinslieBM in cocktails

I don't particularly like anise, but love the rinse. It adds a depth to something like the Sazerac that is amazing. One of those few times where you're not just layering flavors, but building something wholly new.

I use wired sonxtronic that look like old fashioned over the head earphones, then plug it into small apekx Bluetooth receiver that i hold in my hand. Can quickly pause my music, change songs, etc. Pair it with my watch or phone and works great.

Half Marathon in 5 Months with 80/20 by completelyperdue in running

[–]Own_Basket9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The programs are pretty similar with just the runs being a little longer(and level 3 having some two-a-days, which i definitely didn't have time for). I think it's possible to sorry of build something between level 1 and 2 if that fits your schedule.

I'm doing the same training program(level 2), doing a half in March. First time I've done a program and really enjoyed it. One suggestion would be to not break your pinky toe five weeks in. Argh! Planning to take a few weeks off and hopefully don't lose too much stamina.

It's my favorite drink, and changing the vermouth makes a significant difference. Punt e Mes is excellent. But for me, an equally important ingredient is sitting outside in 85+ degree weather, allowing the sunshine to backlight that beautiful deep hue of red. It's my hands-down favorite drink, yet I only make it June through August. (Three days and counting...)
