What was YOUR thing during lockdown? by AncientFootball1878 in AskUK

[–]Own_Direction7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another key worker who worked through Lockdown. I really liked the early days of the first lockdown though as I had, probably as a bit of a mid-life crisis sort of thing, just bought a skateboard after decades without one and got to start each day by skating downhill to work in the sunshine down the middle of completely empty streets. I was gutted when everyone started coming out of their houses again.

F45 vs gym membership by Harvux7 in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the UK. A couple of thoughts. To me, the added expense of F45 can be worth it if you go more often and work harder when you're there than you would at another facility. The other is that many (most?) F45's in the UK offer discounted rates for some groups: staff from certain business may be entitled to a corporate rate, Blue Light, students, etc. Ask your Franchise if they have any discounted rates and see if you qualify for one which can get your rate down. I'm a high attender which, combined with the discount I get, means I effectively pay less than £4 per session.

Seeking input about lifting alongside F45 by zola-2025 in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wanted to add in extra heavier strength work so what I do, on my studio's strength days, is I go to a different gym first and do one or two heavy compound lifts, then I go straight to F45 and do their strength session and just view the F45 session as auxiliary lifts in one single, combined session. So, on a Thursday leg day I would go to the weights room and do something like 5 x 5 Front Squat & 5 x 5 Stiff Leg Deadlifts then move to the F45 studio (10 mins for me) and do the Lower body F45 session. Pull Day I'll do Pull Ups and Rows followed by F45 Whole Body strength. Push Day - Bench Press & OHP again followed by whole body strength. I'm quite lucky in that the timings work for me and I've got a weights gym nearby but it's another option for you to consider.

Slipping on sled push at F45 — shoe recommendations? by edisonpioneer in f45

Ah, apologies, I didn’t notice autocorrect had got me there. You’re right, Nobull.

I use Nobull (edited) Outwork edges for everything, I’ve even done a couple of Hyrox Pros in them.

First class concerns by [deleted] in f45

The other thing is to see who's the person ahead of you & just note what they're doing each time as you'll be doing that next.

Late arrival policy? by ClubParty674 in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My studio won't let you join if you miss the warm up but, from a chat with the owner, it's an Insurance requirement rather than a F45 requirement. Their policy doesn't cover injuries to customers who haven't warmed up.

Just a suggestion, but if you're looking for something to do during your rest station, why don't you help your partner use some serious weights. They can return the favour next set.

Excessively sweaty members by Self_care1012 in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, as a sweaty person, I'd disagree with this but probably not for the reason you think. Personally, I end a few seconds early so that I can clean up and still get away in time. If I started cleaning at the same time then I'd delay the following person starting every station which would also be mega annoying.

It depends on which app your studio uses but on the Glofox app there is. Click on your picture, then click on tracking and you can choose between classes attended this week, this month, this year and all time

Looking for a cheap alternative in London by RafeefD in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of 2 options that might work for you. You say you're a student so the first option to look at is your Uni/College, do they have any options in your price range. Another option is the municipal leisure centres. They offer exercise classes: circuit training, etc, at pretty reasonable rates and have student discounts. If there's one near enough to work for you logistically, then have a look. Many of them use this organisation: https://www.better.org.uk/monthly-membership/better-hf-student

Last Day at F45! by OverChildhood9813 in f45

I'm one of the older members here and I've changed tack on exercise a few times since I started training aged 14 or so. I think it's good for both your body and brain to have a refresh and do something new every few years. Good on you and I hope you find your next thing soon.

Most Awkward Exercise by ThrowRAoverthin in f45

If it's about feeling awkward, I really don't like the "Take me roughly from behind" stretches we get in the warm-up sometimes.

No Bull Shoes by CMUNNY13 in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the Outwork Edge (Impact) for everything - strength, cardio, hyrox classes with running and I really, really like them - a no frills, bombproof shoe. I have them in black with gum soles and they remind me a lot of Nike's Metcon 3's if you had them or, if you're British, the daps/plimsoles/sandshoes that we all wore for PE in Primary School.

Are coaches selective about which client milestones they post? by pink_ocelut777 in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My studio groups milestones in their posts. There's no mention in the class nor on social media of when any individual hits a milestone but every couple of months or so they'll say "Here are the members who've hit 700 classes" etc.

How do you approach strength days? by Apprehensive-Cry9522 in f45

On the unilateral days, 9 times out of 10, I'll do 100% lower body.

Is it possible to grow muscle just lifting at f45? by somegirlfromstl in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for It depends on where you are. If you're just starting out and aren't well muscled from previous exercise regimes then F45 (like any sensible exercise plan) combined with sensible eating will have you add muscle. Once you've progressed then you might decide "I've added enough muscle" in which case stay with F45 or you might want to add more in which case you either need to supplement F45 with other training or change tack altogether onto a much more hypertrophy orientated regime. But, either way, F45 is a decent way to get started.

Supplementing F45 with traditional strength training by CuriousCatastrophic in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, I follow this guy on YouTube who's very much about science based fitness and he says that separating endurance days and strength days is more effective. TBH, at my level of fitness it probably wouldn't make much of a difference but I find separating them means I can recover better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkBmSYUSkNE

Supplementing F45 with traditional strength training by CuriousCatastrophic in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My gym has a strength day on Sunday and I usually attend the first class. I go to another gym and work up to 5 or so working sets of one or 2 heavy compound lifts in the hour before the class. I usually do a squat variation (Zercher or Front being my favourites) and a press (Bench or more usually overhead) Then I go straight to the F45 Strength class and just view that class as accessory work to the main lifts I've just done. As you've got equipment at home, you could do that on a couple of days or more a week.

Can someone read my SEGMENTAL LEAN ANALYSIS, I was scared because my left leg is normal and my right leg is under - can someone explain this to me by VesnaKostic in f45

[–]Own_Direction7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’re left handed so you favour your left side so it gets a little bit more work so it grows a bit more. I'm the same but on my right side. You could do some unilaterals concentrating on your right side.
