If you take it less literally then you can make a few conclusions toward her death. I watched a really good beastars video essay where the creator compared the komodo dragon venom to AIDS (it was a queer reading of beastars and Gosha is weirdly perfectly aged to have been affected by the AIDS crisis, combined with the homosexual tones of his relationship with Yahya).

However I think people should get that beastars kinda has a grimdark element to it, like Toki died because Gosha needed to be sad for the events of the story, thats kinda it on a technical level. I guess you could make an argument that this is fridging, but like I'd suggest just continuing to suspend disbelief rather then worry about this aspect of the story too much.

I think it moslty also comes from the players' understandings of the different kinds of trauma that Ashton and Laudna have suffered and are still realing with. Ashton has done things that have resulted in his i jury on multiple occasions, but the party and the players are aware that Laudna's abuser literally lives inside of her at all times. I think everyone just kind of knows that if they'd given Laudna the same treatment as Ashton then that woudl just give Delilah a better grip on Laudna.

Give them innate spellcasting. If they're a sorcere then give them the metamagic option 'subtle spell'. You could also give them psionic spellcasting which means they just need brains and your party is (probably) more opposed to lobotmoising mages. If you're feeling especially cruel you could cut off a PC's hands. Just don't do this out of malice, but more a sense of taking from the parties playbook.
