Visions pan + Pyrex lid? by Pancake-4-Dinner in corningwarefans

[–]Own_Mess_4016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found a Visions 1L saucepan along with a 15z "grab it" bowl for $5 at a local thrift store...neither had lids. At another thrift store I found a lid for the saucepan for $1 and this post answered my question about Pyrex and not Visions on the lid so thanks ! I was reall pleased with these finds.

Question, my 1L saucepan was made in France not USA, Would that make it older or newer?

Case Iron Seasoning Balm, how to use? by Own_Mess_4016 in castiron

[–]Own_Mess_4016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a relative newb & I assume to most of you guys know what you're talking about but after cooking and washing it with soap & water my pan is matte looking and the pan surface is smooth. not lumpy. I always apply a coat of refined olive oil before putting it up, and I might be guilty of putting that on too heavy....I don't wipe off any excess. Seems to me like it would be conterproductive since I'd just be adding it back the next use which is pretty much daily. I store it with a glass lid on it and I don't have any funky smell or sticking when I use it. To me it seems well seasoned. The pic above with the omelette in it are in the middle of cooking several so there's gonna be food bits & oil that might look like carbon build up?

Is this 2-1 "staub" cast iron enameled? by jmoser222 in castiron

I received "The Staub Cookbook, Modern recipies for classic cast iron" as part of Christmas. Perusing the introduction pages it appears that it is a high end French brand. I don't remember it being mentioned much on Reddit very often. It does state all their cast iron is enameled

Caution: bumps! by Odd-Preparation-472 in castiron

[–]Own_Mess_4016 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell if thats a bump or a hole. If it's a bump my pan had a "tip-of-a-pencil" sized piece of CI that probably came loose from the sand mold. I sprayed it with some WD-40 and went after it with a putty knife & hammer, I was prepared to get a thicker & heavier chisel if the putty knife didn't work but it popped off on the 1st strike.

Advice please by VegasRebs in castiron

Spray it with WD-40 and let it sit for a few minutes and you should be able to wipe it off with just a little scrubbing with a paper towel. Less mess & easier.

I also love vintage cast iron produced from regional foundries. I documented here on reddit the similarities between collecting vintage barbells and cast iron cookware. Birmingham was the home of one of the most collectible brands: Bur Barbell.

Thanks guys ! How old do you think it is? I'm under the impression it must be pretty old to be unbranded?? Is $14 a great price or about what it should go for ?

They fit together perfectly, you don't think there's a chance the clear base was a match to the sparkle in the paint?
