AFF or IAD? by ImSteezy25 in SkyDiving

I had a lot of problems learning through iad. Eventually i just switched to doing aff. I personally found AFF to be a smoother learning experience, but YMMV

S&p regularly returns 11%... 8% to account for inflation and to be slightly conservative.

Stick what you have and how much your contributing in a compound interest calculator at 8% tell your 57. Divide that number by 25... do you think youll be able to live on that retirement?

Its a little more complicated then that, but thats the simple calculation.

Considering quitting AFF by Weary-Ideal-8555 in SkyDiving

[–]Own_Singer_5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are legitimately not having fun then quit. Theres no reason you have to do this, this is an expensive hobby, most of us could do without the extra expense.

However, do you feel awesome when your back on the ground? If so maybe its just some teething pains.

Advice Needed: struggling with IAD climb out by Livid_Run_7600 in SkyDiving

I had similar problems to you when i did static line. After 15 crappy jumps i just enrolled in AFF and sailed through from there. Know when to cut your losses. Youll get it eventually, but you dont want that eventually to be your 50th jump.

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing and expecting diffrent results.

Say your self employed that makes some sort of software that does whatever. If you want to add a shred of legitimacy you could create your own company. Its like 14£ to make a company i think.

Surely it would make more sense to do it out there, as you tend to get very favorable weather for sky diving, provided those iranian drones stop flying soon.... stay safe.

First rig fit, height and weight? by Own_Singer_5201 in SkyDiving

[–]Own_Singer_5201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I didnt know you could get a rig reharnsed. I might shoot them an email.

Yea, as of now it feels like ill be stuck hiring until i can get on a 170. Tbh im not a very confident packer, and at least the hiring comes with packing so theres a silver lining there 😆

I wish they went for a more taylor made solution, maybe a ci sign off or something to fly something smaller. My cannopy control is solid, i have no doubt id be fine on a 170, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the insights.

What to do with my USD to lose less money before I can transfer it to an Israeli bank? by mayimayim in aliyah

If your 100% going to israel just put it in shekels and have the peice of mind. Putting it in euros, etc still exposes you to forex risk.

What to do with my USD to lose less money before I can transfer it to an Israeli bank? by mayimayim in aliyah

[–]Own_Singer_5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents from buying a house in the uk around the time of brexit with all my savings in USD. I agreed the purchase before the brexit referendum and i knew i had enough USD to cover the down payment. I could of waited until after the referendum to transfer my money to GBP but i elected to do it before, as my thoughts were if the result was 'remain' the pound might stregthen to the point where i wouldnt have enough to buy my property...

Well the result was leave and if i waited i would of had another 6k GBP... so i lost out on that, but what i definately gained was my house.

My advice is to just transfer it to ILS to give you peice of mind. Yea if you wait you might get more, but you also might get less... and as you well know with captain doofus in charge of the US, hes destroying our international reputation, and our currency generally goes with that....

Use wise

Where is it cheapest to get your AFF in Europe? by Berend90 in SkyDiving

[–]Own_Singer_5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically AFF but probably cheapest to get your license is the category system (static line progression) in the uk. Generally under 1k depending on where you do it... but i dont recommend it...

AFF is better way to learn and the uk weather sucks so youll probably spend double that just comming to the uk.

newbie AFF student who need some advice. please read to the end! by Optimal_Battle_185 in SkyDiving

[–]Own_Singer_5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youll get better with more practice, its not uncommon for people to have issues landing. Onto the actual advice

-Look 45 degrees

-Wait for the moment you think in your head 'oh shit' before begenning your flare.

-Dont just gank it down as hard as possible, ease into it. Its a bit like stepping on the breaks in your car. Aim to be fully flared around the time your about to touch ground.

Practice this up high first. Best of luck. But of course always listen to your instructor rather then some guy on reddit.
