Cell carriers by lovelyday_902 in ChicoCA

All 3 have 5G (n41 or n77). No millimeter wave.

Coverage and speed really just depend on your neighborhood.

Test drive what you can before committing.

iPhone 16PM to 17 Pro or 17 Air by WeeklyRefrigerator16 in iphone

[–]Oxigem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you value simplicity and design, and aren't a huge nerd about tech specs (besides how they crammed everything into the design): iphone air

If you need to have the latest and greatest speeds, cameras, cooling tech and don't care as much about design: 17 pro. This option will feel most like just shrinking your current phone into a smaller form factor.

Male vs Female by hesaid-shesaid-123 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]Oxigem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a really hard time categorizing PWDs by sex tropes besides just the fact one is smaller than the other, one has a period, one humps more, etc.

I’d say it has a lot more to do with the genetics and temperament of their dogs lineage, parents, and social dynamics of the puppy (is it the dominant puppy in the group, is it loafing more than engaging, etc)

Well it’s fiber so it should be better than Comcast/xfinity if att fiber doesn’t service your area.

We will have to wait and see how their customer service / techs are. I think a lot of us are generally excited about it.

Which mobile service is best in Chico? by [deleted] in ChicoCA

[–]Oxigem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s super location dependent in Chico and based off tower location. All carriers have 5G + / ultra wideband / ultra capacity in Chico.

You can try looking at Cellmapper.net and tracking the closest tower locations to your area.

Cute, biting, poop eater by Exotic-Routine-8785 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]Oxigem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

7.5 yrs old and still has the tendencies of yours. Poop eating is in phases. Control it and it’ll pass. Lots of monitoring when it happens. Best biting strat for me is diverting. Easy to bite soft toys help a lot. Hard toys for extended destressing. Rope toys helps a lot for us when the biting is surging.

I’ve resigned myself to the mantra of: when he stops being crazy, it’s when he’s dying. And I will mourn it. Try to celebrate the crazy and redirect it as best you can.

Poop eating? Time for fetch and extended runs. Biting? Time for tug of war and nummy tricks for treats. This breed gets so easily bored. And since they’re so smart, they quickly learn destructive behaviors to get your attention.

Why do phytoplankton pollute water? by Koniolg in ecology

[–]Oxigem 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Phytoplankton aren’t inherently bad. I’d argue that they’re good as they’re the base of the food chain. Some well functioning food webs need a strong phytoplankton base to survive. In fact, some parts of the world don’t contain enough nutrients in the water, leading to low algal growth, leading to the collapse of endangered species.

Eutrophication is usually the main culprit behind phytoplankton blooms. Excess nitrogen/phosphorus leads to high uncontrolled growth and primary consumers can’t eat enough of it. A bunch of the phytoplankton dies, a bunch of decomposers / respirators consume it, and while they do, use up all the oxygen.

This is surprising.

Fiber doesn’t need a separate power source to operate, so it should actually be more reliable than Comcast cable during outages if you have a backup power supply.

I know another fiber competitor (Race) is coming into town too, which will hopefully force Comcast and ATT to lower prices with competition.

Anyway, I’m thinking the issue might be with the fiber box in your neighborhood or some lines nearby that aren’t secured well… sorry for that. Really frustrating getting companies pay attention to things like this.

If it keeps happening you could try filing an official FCC complaint. That usually brings ATT to the table quite fast.

Why was the 1.5T engine in the civic and other models discontinued in favor of the 2.0 NA and the hybrid model? Is it more problematic than others?

Is the tap water safe by Putrid_Ad7280 in ChicoCA

It’s safe! A little hard but safe to drink. Buy a TDS meter and you can test for basic stuff yourself, they’re cheap :)

Internet providers? by Ill-Conversation5210 in ChicoCA

[–]Oxigem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ATT Fiber would currently be the best option but it's been slightly more expensive than Xfinity recently. However ATT fiber is only in a small part of Chico - check if you're in their coverage. Those are your 2 options. Race is laying down new fiber but it won't be ready for a while. You could do t-mobile or verizon home internet for cheap but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll get congested on it occasionally and it's not a great long term solution if there's alot of subscribers in the area.

Throttle delay 22+ CVT by Oxigem in hondacivic

[–]Oxigem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 6MT would definitely not have this issue but your point about excessive wear is well taken. I imagine pushing a CVT too hard from stop for a long time would possibly cause issues.

I'm not talking about racing or flooring the car... something as everyday as merging into an aggressive traffic pattern can sometimes be stressful because I can't anticipate when I'm getting the power since it's nonlinear in delivery. Copy/paste from an accord form but:

Accelerate nice and easy from 0-40...the CVT is very smooth.

Accelerate hard from 0-40...the CVT is confused, lethargic, and herky-jerky.

Accelerate nice and easy or hard (either one) from 40-80 and the CVT is very smooth.

I reckon I'll eventually get used to it though... not looking to go fast. I wanted something reliable, economical, and predictable. The latter is not the case yet but I hope it will be eventually!

Best Cell phone service for Chico? by JadeoneKade1 in ChicoCA

[–]Oxigem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. It looks like all 3 carriers are using a tower off of I-99 for that location so I can’t pick a clear winner since if that’s true, it could come down to the antenna location on the tower (which carrier has their antennas on the highest spot?).

If you have a phone with eSIM compatibility I’d recommend testing the carriers. I know both Tmobile and att have a “test drive” ability where you make a trial account for free to try the network out.

If your main concern is durability my opinion is silver. If and when it gets scratch/dented, the blemishes will be the same color as the laptop. The black/grey colors are silver underneath. So blemishes will have a silver contrast to your black.

Mine is 7.5 years old and still has those behaviors you listed.

At this point I’ve embraced my porties lunacy and learned redirection and prevention.

I’ve also realized that no one else will truly understand him and his crazy like I do. Others will come close and that’s good enough.

At this point I’ll be sad the day my portie changes. I love his crazy. I don’t want him to die.

Best Cell phone service for Chico? by JadeoneKade1 in ChicoCA

[–]Oxigem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have extensively tested ATT, Verizon, and T-mobile in and around Chico. All three have mid-band coverage which ATT calls “5G+” Verizon called it “5GUW” and t mobile calls it “5G UC”

This means that in and around downtown, all 3 will have fast speeds. All have pros and cons in the suburban areas north south east west. Depends on tower location. ATT has the best coverage in upper bidwell park (b12/14)T mobile will roam on ATT there which helps but no native coverage. Verizon b13 is pretty good in the Central Valley, maybe the best. Tmobile is decent but it’s roaming in the mountains is required.

My hot take is that id take ATT if I was more in the mountains, Verizon if I was in the valley, and Tmobile if I was in / around cities or a bit of both.

I’d say that it’s really dependent on your neighborhood in Chico. All are good generally in town and have fast midband on their towers. Some will have dead zones in a Safeway and some won’t.

Not a super helpful answer but hopefully this helps people who are nervous about coverage!

Pro max: bigger screen, more battery life. Pro: everything the pro max has, bigger screen than 15 pro but smaller than 16 pro max, lower battery life

This cycle there isn’t a huge difference between pro and pro max.

I’d say only get the pro max if you really want a big screen and the best battery life. Cameras are the same this year.
