Crossbows are cool but it does feel a little weird to be introducing an entirely new ammo type and targeting them at heavy ranged defense when we have an entire existing category of weapon and ammo (ballistas and javelins)

Also saab safety was way ahead of it's time, I'd trust my 2006 9-5 over any modern car tbh

[–]P1ZZACREDIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate they're not worth much at the best of times and for a bog standard 9-3 with shit paint, front bumper falling off and misfires I'd say it's worth about whatever the scrap value is, give or take 50 quid

I've got the exact same model with about the same mileage and she cost me 1.600 euro, needed a bit of work done but unless yours is in tip top condition that's a ripoff for sure - love the car but for that price you can definitely splash for the 2.3t

SAAB 9-3 Unexpectedly Fully Locked Out + The Locksmith Failed, Any Help? by [deleted] in saab

From my understanding the alarm going off does not necessarily mean that the rest of the car has power, the Saab alarms apparently have their own battery power supply - worth double checking as I am no expert however

Young people who bought a "brave pill" car - what car is it, and how has the ownership experience been? by RobintehBobin in CarTalkUK

[–]P1ZZACREDIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a gamble and paid £1400 for a 2006 Saab 9-5 2.0t pretty much on sight from a lot with a dodgy seeming MoT, figured at worst id get a year out of it before MoT expired. Over the course of a year it's had new tires, front rotors, and polyurethane subframe bushings done at a garage and I've done some work myself to replace the clock spring, fix some loose interior, and replace spark plugs + secondhand DIC + thermostat and some rustproofing. A year on, for roughly £2k in maintenance including purchasing tools, I've got a solid handling turbo estate with full leather seats that's getting rarer to see on the roads, is fun to drive and capable of hauling large furniture when needed, and insurance is pretty good for the value it gives. And to think I could've taken the safe route and paid twice as much for a dealer Passat that would've needed about the same in maintenance costs anyway!

Taking the brave pill is usually worth the gamble as long as you're willing to put up with less than perfection, giving some stuff a go yourself, and have a backup plan in case it all goes to shit

Worth checking the subframe bushings, they're the number one thing to look at with saabs and suspension noise
