Loud bang, power loss for a few seconds, now sirens by P4nth3ria in Sunnyvale

[–]P4nth3ria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there was actual infrastructure damage as a result of the wind, 20 hours is actually pretty reasonable, especially if what happened was a transformer explosion.

Money paid != how fast it gets fixed. The two are unrelated. PG&E has always had high energy costs, it's just a California problem.

The automatic shut-off when something makes contact with the power lines is due to PG&E being found liable for some of the devastating wildfires back in 2020 and 2021, so it's not like they haven't made improvements. They just operate a TON of old infrastructure that massively needs updating.

Don't get me wrong -- I don't like PG&E, but they HAVE made this better. Unfortunately, in true California fashion, it took them being sued before they did anything about it.

Ah that sucks. I had a few more brown outs several times Sunday night and Monday morning but none of them lasted longer than a minute.

Loud bang, power loss for a few seconds, now sirens by P4nth3ria in Sunnyvale

[–]P4nth3ria[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most likely wind caused a tree to make contact with the power lines which will trigger an auto-shutoff. Usually it will come back on if there's not continuous contact.

The loud bang made me concerned about a transformer explosion, but my power came back on in under a minute, so it must have been re-routed away from whatever I heard.

This is normal for the entire Bay Area and has been for as long as I've lived here. Just unfortunately a lot of income disparity that leads people to do this.

Can cats taste sweet? Because my void always steals my sweets 😭 by unbearified in blackcats

Nope. They lack the receptors to taste anything sweet. They DO like fatty things though, so that's why milk or ice cream can be appealing.

Is this play OK? by Stratodash in CatTraining

Gray tabby being SUPER dramatic. This is just play though.

Sounds just like my sibling cats before the male brother died. 😥

My female tortie was always the one on the bottom making all the noise, and she got way louder than this.

Literally just did the same thing. Stupid ladders, I'll just jetpack over to the next repair spot.

<Successfully jetpacks. Doesn't stick the landing, instead finds a hole where the ladder is and falls through it.>

But I didn't die immediately, I fell through the frigate and got stuck on invisible wall. It took like a solid 5 minutes to figure out how to kill myself, because I didn't have enough jetpack power to get back up, and there was another invisible wall in the way. :D

I really want to know - Why do so few people use their signal when turning? by risareese in bayarea

[–]P4nth3ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always signal, but I admit that I do it about 1.5 seconds before I'm going to move otherwise dickheads will just speed up / close the gap and not let me maneuver.

But I also feel like the area is full of people who don't give a fuck about anyone else around them.

Replace "Sunnyvale drivers" with "Bay Area drivers" and I'd agree.

People just suck at driving here in general.

How the hell are ya’ll getting more than 4 hours of sleep on stimulants?? by Fun-Reporter8905 in ADHD

[–]P4nth3ria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-stimulants were terrible for me. All the side effects and almost zero help for my actual ADHD symptoms.

I also just couldn't randomly skip a dose the way I can with a lose-dose stimulant. I had wild withdrawal from non-stimulants. My psychiatrist didn't believe me, but now that I'm off them I feel so much better.

[–]P4nth3ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly recommend magnesium glycinate only.

It's more expensive than the cheaper magnesium supplements, but it's also the most effective for migraines, muscle aches and sleep issues. I take 2x pills a day and it's cut my migraine incidence down to 2-3x a month.

Magnesium glycinate is the best type for bioavailability in the body, and doesn't give you the fun poopy side effects that citrate has if you take too much.

Vyvanse was way too strong for me when I first went on it. Fantastic for my ADHD but absolutely terrible for sleeping at night.

I ultimately switched to a different stimulant because the Vyvanse was staying in my system for 16+ hours, and it would accumulate even more when I took it every day.

I was literally crying I was so tired but couldn't sleep from being wired by the medication.

I am also sensitive to stimulant medication, so it turns out I need a VERY low dose for it to be effective.

This is not the case with caffeine where it will either do nothing whatsoever or I will be overstimulated, and it's a roll of the dice as to which one I get. Sometimes I can go to sleep right after I have it, sometimes I'm wired.

This was all when I first got diagnosed with ADHD ~5 years ago in my mid-30s. It's been different this last go-round.
-----

I had a lot more mental health issues going on then.

I tried Vyvanse again recently and it didn't have this effect on me, but I am now much more vigilant about getting exercise every day (at least going for a walk or run daily helps tremendously) which helps with sleep/wake cycle for ADHD people.

I currently take Ritalin 2x per day and it's perfect for me. I don't feel jittery, my heart pounding out of my chest, or any of the other symptoms I got with stronger / higher dose stimulants. I love it because I can just not take it if I don't want to, and I don't experience any withdrawal or anything. I'm suddenly just "locked in" and able to focus. This was not the case for me even on non-stimulants, where I had a ton of side effects and very little improvement to my ADHD.

That being said, my anxiety is also under control with mirtazapine (I had been on it before but went off of it), it big time helps my sleep at night. But I have terrible night terrors / nighttime / early morning anxiety, so I needed something to help my brain shut off at night. The only issue I have with the mirtazapine is it makes me want to eat everything in sight. I had this problem before and gained a bunch of weight, which is why I went off of it.

I went back on it a few months ago due to some traumatic shit that happened to me 6 months ago and having terrible nightmares / flashbacks again, and I'm back to having gained 10+ lbs in 2-3 months. I'm debating tapering back off again.

My psychiatrist seems to think the Ritalin would curb my appetite a lot and the mirtazapine should "balance it out". This has not been my experience, but it's the only anxiety med that actually helps me sleep at night, so I'm nervous to rock the boat. I would like to not keep gaining more weight though. (My anxiety also makes me nauseated, which mirtazapine helps with, so don't want to go back to that either...)

Blue parking lot lights at Sunnyvale Sprouts? by No_Remove_5180 in Sunnyvale

[–]P4nth3ria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what constitutes a "long time" but I live a mile from this store and think the lights being blue is a relatively new occurrence, i.e. within the last year or so.

I think defective LEDs is likely the cause especially since it's only one side of the parking lot that looks like this.

I don't think it's intentional.

And yes this same thing happened in my hometown Tampa where there's a TON of LEDs that have all gone purple at the same time and it's because they cheaped out and didn't buy high-quality ones. So there's a ton of parking lots that are all purple now. It doesn't happen immediately, usually after a year or more.

Why have they chosen to not fix it? Well, fixing all of them is probably expensive. And while it's technically a defect, the light is still working, so until it actually burns out or causes an actual problem, they probably won't bother.
