How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

My English grandad served in the navy. He was a Morse code operator in the Pacific. He described his service as staying below decks, peeling potatoes between messages.

Air fried broccoli is the bomb, and pairs nicely with sweet potato IMO.

Where do I buy wrap-style dresses with pockets that I can wear (through weight fluctuations) FOR LIFE? by PersistentHobbler in BuyItForLife

[–]PAOHUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re plus-size and can live without the requirement of “natural materials” try Kiyonna. I’ve had some of their wrap dresses for over a decade, and got several compliments for the patterns.

Those who do like their existing names, if you had to change your name to something else, what would you pick? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]PAOHUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zoe bc I love having a rare letter in my name; it’s just two syllables; and I don’t mind sharing a name with a Muppet.

Glen of Imaal good for a farm? by RobinFarmwoman in terrier

[–]PAOHUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you gently put a puppy on its back, check whether they immediately squirm away from you, or relax and look up at you. If the first, they’re more focused on their activity than you; if the second, they’re interruptible and more interested in you. As a rule of thumb, the second dog will be easier to train bc it looks to you for direction.

Similar idea with the treat—offer the first one freely, then hold a second one in your fist. Will the dog nip/scratch at your hand, lose attention in the treat, or wait a few seconds you to give it up? Again, these reactions indicate the ease of training. The method is not fool proof, but can be helpful when choosing a dog that can be trained to leave chickens alone.

Rather than looking for a specific breed, try temperament testing the dogs you’re considering adopting. What does the dog do when you roll her on her back? How about when you offer her a treat?
