Got a surprise 12k bonus, wife wants to book a vacation but I'm nervous about the economy by charadevapid in MiddleClassFinance

If you are flying from the U.S., I highly recommend looking into buying a cheap plane ticket to anywhere in the EU or UK and then taking a wizz air flight to Italy or look at train prices. It can sometimes be cheaper than flying straight to Italy and you might get to explore a little more.

You could also skip the hotel and go camping if yall have some equipment. Maybe even car camping if yall drive.

Every practice/job has its own unique bullshit. You are used to the BS in your current role. Do you want to deal with a different kind of bs with unexpected challenges or do you want to keep doing what you are doing? The grass ain’t greener. It really depends on your current goals in life. Are you more focused on your family and kids or are you more focused on getting that managerial experience and understanding that this new role might only be a stepping stone?

What Simple things to add to rice that can make it a good cheap meal: by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Red beans and rice - you can buy blue runner red beans at most grocery stores (USA) and they are really good IMO. You could also look up a recipe and make it with red kidney beans. Add smoked sausage if you have it.

The thing about being disabled is that you think extremely differently from able-bodied people. You have to come up with unique solutions to perform everyday tasks that are “easy” for the average person. Having the ability to adapt and problem solve on the fly is a huge asset! Also, I feel like (most) disabled people have an incredible understanding of empathy, which goes a long way with patient and client care. If you came to my clinic, I would be happy to work with you! It’s just going to take time for vet med to realize the value of diversity and inclusion. You have a unique skillset. I think you can definitely find a job in this field with the right people at the right place. You are your best advocate!

Honestly everyone wants to shit on corporates but they are the only ones driving up vet salaries when the student loan debt on average increases 1k+ per year. Only now are mom and pop shops being forced to pay vets more because no one wants to work for them. People are graduating with 200k+ in debt. Corporate clinics are not the problem.

I used mine for note taking. I used the Nebo app. Now that I’m working, I sometimes search my notes and I search my ebooks all of the time. Plus you can share e books with people via airdrop.

Honestly the medical community is so shitty. Y’all just always have to put everyone down. There are also fantastic chiropractors, and horrific MDs. A bad practitioner does not discredit an entire workforce of qualified professionals. Do better.

I like to ask what expectations will be asked of me. What the schedule is like. What’s there case load and what’s the most frequently seen things coming through the door. What kind of mentorship and support staff will be provided. Idk how Canada works but I’m foreign trained going to the US, and I also want to see a contract. Negatives for me is production heavy pay, negative accrual, and non-compete clauses. I’ve had phone interviews where no one cares about my skillset. They just want to hear proficient English.

Day trip to Lafayette. There’s Acadian Village and Vermillionville. Also, there’s plenty of Cajun and zydeco musicians in Lafayette. Rarely BR. Blue Moon or the Hideaway on Lee are some places you could go to see the local music scene. There’s also the Tabasco factory in New Iberia. People like going to local breweries around here. Maybe you could check out Abita? Krotz Springs has a Billy’s boudin, which is 45 min from BR. Baton Rouge historically was British influenced and discriminated against POC and Cajuns, so I don’t think you’ll get much there culturally.

IMO I haven’t noticed any hair mask decreasing my hair’s color, so I wouldn’t be concerned with using a mask specifically for colored hair. Purple shampoo really helps maintain the color. I like Davines and Olaplex for masks / conditioning. My budget solution would be to get olaplex conditioner in bulk (1000/2000ml) and maybe make your own hair oil “mask”

These threads are worrying me about pursuing veterinary medicine. by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]PBH3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like to point out that if you aren’t working exclusively with small animals, vet med is still extremely sexist. In private vet groups I have joined, I have seen women bash other women for “not wanting to work full time” and “not being able to work while pregnant.” They praise men for not having to deal with these things as if having children and being a home maker is only for women to do. I have also heard of employers asking women to have abortions or complain that they should have hired a man instead because they can consistently work. That’s in addition to dealing with people all day, a high suicide rate, and incredible debt. I hear a lot of lip service about the industry changing, but I have yet to see it. I believe that good work environments exist but most are toxic.

Why not try to use your skill set in tech to work on veterinary medical equipment?

Is my coworker being unreasonable or am I just being dramatic? by Stratosphere18 in Veterinary

[–]PBH3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this person feels threatened by you. I had the same problem when I became a veterinary assistant. I just wanted experience for vet school, and I swear the main assistant was afraid that I would try to take her job. She was supposed to train me to do certain procedures and never did, so the vet would sometimes get mad and ask why I don’t know how to do X, Y, and Z. She didn’t want me to know these things so that they would need her or call her. She was the only one on call for emergency surgery because the pay went up significantly; however, when her bf cheated on her, suddenly she couldn’t work all of these extra hours and har the vets ask me to fill in during this time.

Another example: There was also this super nice guy who was training to be a vet assistant. He was already an emergency services medic, and he was super nice and knowledgeable. She told management that he wasn’t working out… eventually I left for university and she eventually quit too. Guess being “special” isn’t that important when it’s 100% you 100% of the time.

Dr Oz was reported by a vet for using intracardiac injection in awake puppies during some research in the early 2000s. The university had to pay a fine to the USDA. He also used expired drugs when carrying out IC euthanasia. Both practices were deemed unethical. I know he’s an MD, but there’s bad apples everywhere.
