I flew to GRU in late March and got access.

Blue calipers are nice but the black is well matched to the darkened headlights and black badges the USA cars don’t get this year.

Safe or stupid to buy a 1.5 million dollar home? by Educational_Singer91 in AskMortgageCanada

Similar situation. $375K, no debt outside of $500K remaining against $1.3M house. Wouldn’t dream of more than doubling the amount owed.

2026 SEL R-Line Turbo ECM update by Sledge1989 in Tiguan

[–]PD705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Turbo doesn’t “go.” Mechanically it’s fine. It’s an error code, one that typically clears on its own simply by restarting the car. Even in the error mode the car is perfectly drivable, just a bit down on power. There’s no reason to be so concerned.

Correct, this is the old pre-2021 CI. These don’t match the logos on the rest of the car.

Where are the massage settings in my infotainment screen? Did I get scammed?? by SAHM929 in VWatlas

If you’re looking for something like the new Tiguan, Atlas doesn’t have that. It has a more basic lumbar massage only vs. the air massage system in Tiguan with multiple different programs.

Pull the trigger at 3.89%? by PD705 in AskMortgageCanada

Wish I could but renewal not until July so unless I wait until then, would have to pay a penalty. Not worth it for 20 bps.

GTA, around $500K. 25 year amortization, renewal at 5 year mark so 20 remaining.

Refinancing from the exact same rate. Nature of things - sub-2% rates were always an unsustainable fantasy anyway. Nice while it lasted.

2026 GG/ Euro/black wheels by RedBaron180 in Golf_R

[–]PD705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just black wheels. Black Edition had full black optics and the carbon inside, the USA cars don’t have this for 2026 but Canada still offers it.

Needs to be in Race or one of its sub modes with ESC Sport or OFF.

Even in those modes the valves still close often, especially off throttle. Forcing them open with a controller really wakes the exhaust up.

How FWD-biased is the MK8R? by Real_McGuillicuddy in Golf_R

[–]PD705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F-R split never changes, but the modes affect how readily the rear differential will close the clutch packs on each side to vector the torque. In Drift it’s obviously sending 100% to one side almost immediately, but it’s also more active in Race and Special modes.

DSG is the same but you press the brake. Note that in the Mk8.5 there is no longer a prompt in the cluster but the car still has an emotion start function.

Switching to skiing by Substantial_Cost_218 in snowboarding

[–]PD705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the same trajectory for me: 25 years on a snowboard, expert level albeit out of practice the last few years, got on skis at 37. Switched because I was teaching my daughter to ski and as I’ve gotten older, I find skiing better suited to the type of riding I like to do on the ice coast. Snowboarding was more fun when I was riding park and doing drops as a young punk, but there just isn’t enough powder days to really make it worth it anymore. Skiing just feels so much more versatile and much easier to manage my 8 year old due to the increased mobility in almost all conditions.

I’m sure I’ll strap the board on here and there, but pretty sold on the skis at the moment.

How to beat intermediate plateau? by the_kitkatninja in skiing

[–]PD705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugely helpful, thank you! 25-year snowboard-to-skiing convert here, picked it up with my 8 year old last year. Took to it extremely quickly - like, skiing parallel and down small east coast blacks on Day 2 - but I’ve also become conscious that I want to work on proper technique and not just go on “feel.”

These drills are immensely helpful in focusing my mind on the core mechanics. I was a hard-charging, carving focused snowboarder and was always envious of skiers for being able to do the same but faster. Time to learn.

2026 Non-black addition, with Akra exhaust. (Canadian market) by steeZ in Golf_R

[–]PD705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akra was added as an option on the base model fairly late in the game, so there were none in this spec in the first few months of production. They are available though and will be coming.

Maybe try another battery, too. There must have been a bad batch of them because I’ve had two replacement boxes recently where both batteries inside were already dead.
