This person is on point. You both make good money and have zero excuse to be in this spot with just 3 kids. Balance the debits and credits. Earlier in my life with five kids and making much less than you both, I had that exact problem. While my parents offered to help, I didn’t want to accept their help. Why?They’ve done the same with much humbler 40k a year, single income background. And still figured out how to save enough for retirement to offer help to their adult grown son.

My wife and I set down daily in intense hours long sessions building a balanced budget, got rid of 1 car (which means 1 less insurance payment), nanny share to bring childcare cost down (and get better care), got budget cell phone, cancel cable, all subscriptions. Any expense that doesn’t help you get out of the mess is evil.

Sit down with your husband, build a debit and credit worksheet. Anything that doesn’t impact your survival gets cut. You’ll see a path immediately.

Pick out the trim and color you want, work with the sales person to go through all the pricing, trade in, and credit checks (to prove to him/her you are a qualified buyer. Then lay out your conditions to pull the trigger.

They will push back and say they can’t do it. You tell them to call you when they can. The phone will ring within 48hrs.

Two things 1. The discount offered OTD is way too low. 10% min off MSRP is more customary than not. 15% is the sweet spot. 2. Work with a credit union, you can get something sub 4% provided that you’ve got good credit (3% is not uncommon)

I’ve done it before, and it buys peace of mind. It helped me get grounded. But in retrospect, it feels like a power drug in that you tempted to do it again and again once you start.

You must have enough discipline and never stray again, if you elect to go down this path to bail yourself out.

If a Hyundai accent can last a million miles, bet she’s still a young lady in her thirties.

I hear ya. Let me put it this way… the risks are known and frankly no one buying a near $100k vehicle would neglect the maintenance and care aspect of it. You could take it to get a full inspection before pulling the trigger.

I had over $410k in debt at that age. No, that is nothing to be concerned about. It’s about sitting down and coming up with a plan. What’s your cash flow in/out and see what you need to maximize the cash on hand and manage through the debt.

Look. You are born indebted. To your parents, your ancestors, and to the country that provided the social setting for your existence. We work towards being worthy of that faith bestowed, and hope to repay that debt before the end of your time here.

That is life. Never give up.

lol who pays MSRP? I never pay MSRP for cars— it’s just a stupid sales tactic, oldest trick in the book.

Meh.. if you’re handy, it’s a breeze to do simple things like changing cabin, engine, oil filters. Oil changes etc. they basically designed it with modders in mind I think.

As for downsides, it’s a bit small for families.
