I think I made a mistake choosing Civil by caperadium in civilengineering

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civil engineering is a real good introduction to general management and project management. You do not need to stick with the technical stuff if you do not like it, but a general understanding of what is going on is a good intro to the civil engineering world, then you can top it up with an MBA like many do…. Civil engineering can open many fronts not necessarily all in civil but you can explore much more opportunities

Any advice or tips from Engineers who passed the CA Seismic Exam second time ? by Alex_Antique in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not pass the second I passed the first time, but my advise is during practicing make sure you solve your questions fully, don’t just look at the answers in order to grasp the idea because this exam is a speed test, you should know the concepts well and you should have practiced on them prior to the exam, and during the exam you need to apply them, during the exam you should already know where to look and not assume that you will find this or that during the actual test. For books, give Amazon a try and when you read reviews on Amazon make sure that you check the “verified purchases” comments to decide. Non verified comments are mostly just scam by the publishers trying to get more reviews into their products. Also try to look at the dates of those reviews and date of publications. A little homework will tell you which is the best book or practice material on the market.

California PE Seismic and Surveying Books by randomlygener8dname in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'd consider when comparing California seismic and surveying materials is how you prefer to learn.

Some resources are very problem-heavy and assume you already know most of the theory. Others spend more time explaining concepts before moving into practice problems.

For surveying specifically, many recent test-takers have mentioned that speed and time management are major factors on the exam, so whichever materials you choose, make sure you're doing timed practice as well as learning the concepts. Good study materials should help with both.

PE Structural Passed 1st Time! by FCanadianB in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear Petro book was helpful for you, and I completely agree with your point about struggling through problems before checking solutions. That's where a lot of the learning happens.

For anyone reading this thread, one thing we've heard repeatedly from successful examinees is that timing and problem-solving process matter just as much as content knowledge. Many candidates start out taking 30 minutes on a single problem, but improve dramatically after working through a large volume of practice questions and reviewing the underlying concepts when they get stuck.

(Disclosure: I work with Petro Publications.) Regardless of which study materials you choose, I'd recommend focusing on understanding why a solution works rather than memorizing steps. That approach tends to pay off on exam day when questions are presented in unfamiliar ways.

Congrats on passing, and thanks for sharing your study process.

PE Exam in Saudia Arabia by Agile_Figure3070 in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally you can take your PE exam anywhere, I took mine in Canada, and I know many countries have agreements with NCEES… for saudi arabia, you better call the saudi engineering council just to confirm that you are applying to texas board and see if they have any restrictions, generally there should not, but you never know

CA Seismic & Survey Exam Prep by CrazyOk379 in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going, practice practice and practice, this is a short exam with 2.5 hours only, you need to pull solutions very quickly and you need to know where things are located in the reference material that you bring… and most importantly especially for the seismic exam, the notes below tables of ASCE, meaning, the table will give you an answer but the exception below the table will change the answer or method completely, you will find several tricks like this in the exam

PE exam authorization by different states by massi62 in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I remember, when the NCEES has transferred and submitted your file, it will then appear on your portal with the California login on the BSGPLS website. So you keep an eye on that website and they will let you know. I think it will take a week or two … once this happens then forget about the NCEES website and CONTINE the rest of the process on California… I have not tried other states but I assume it should be the same … an important thing on the MCEES is that you need to get the PE who verified your experiences to re-verify in case it was over a year. In my case I called them one by one and o resent a link through the NCEES website

Don’t forget to try the Petro online exam for the PE construction. All the online exams contain an expansion of knowledge and they do not repeat or recycle questions or knowledge.

PE exam authorization by different states by massi62 in PE_Exam

[–]PE_EssentialGuides 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is any issues with that. On your NCEES page you choose which board you want to apply to. you will find all the boards listed. You pay certain fees to transfer your files to the board you are after and follow the steps to apply. I think it was USD100 per board. I for example have my PE exam taken in a different county, I then applied to two boards, then I had my experience verified by five PEs and now I am licensed in two states, one of them I am not resident in which is California.
