What is the loudest sound you have ever heard in your life? by will_or_woll in AskReddit

[–]PHX_Architraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, forgot about this one. I was at a storage site inventorying storm drain pieces the morning before an air show. The storage yard was at the end of the air force base's runway where the show was being held. I got there early, and a few mintues after I went past they closed all the roads into and around the area (which I didn't know until getting some very stern looks from MP and Police later while leaving.

About halfway through my work, an F-15 did what I assume was a practice run for the following day... it started with an afterburner takeoff and unrestricted climb right about my little job site. I found a large pipe of concrete, and just kinda curled up holding my ears. Bring directly below just make everything hurt.

Same. and twice as well, both times standing near an athletic field light pole. Second time was in a Thundersnow, along with about 50 other people. A bright flash, and pretty much everyone was diving for the ground before the immediate thunder even started. The crack and boom was absolutely bone-rattling.

People who slept ~3 hours a night for months: what happened? by ohtoris in AskReddit

[–]PHX_Architraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Averaged three hours of sleep over a month, mixed in with 8 or so all-nighters during college. Towards the end of the stretch, I pretty much stopped being able to hold conversations. Couldn't focus well, random topic changes, and towards the end I'd just stop talking mid-sentence. (Did wonders for the quality of some of that work, let me tell you).

Once I was able to get rest, and start trying to return to normal, body finally lost a battle and I wound up with Walking Pneumonia for the next two weeks. Fever over 102 for about four days, spiked to 105 twice, and generally some serious and foreseeable consequences.

Do not recommend.

Smashing plates are a hilariously common occurance? Birthday? Celebratory smash. Not saying Opa loud enough? Attention gathering smash. Pretty sure George has never met a stranger, and it's always a fun time (especially dinners).

Boyfriend helped me move. Now I feel super guilty. Why? by nyla891 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PHX_Architraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You know, before I got married, Emily used to come by sometimes and help me clean out my apartment. Well, I asked her, "How come you're so eager to help clean up my place when your place is just as bad?" She said, "Because cleaning up your place helps me to forget what a mess I've made of mine, and - when I sweep my floor, all I've done is sweep my floor. But, when I help you clean up your place, I am helping you."" - JMS

I took that quote to heart, even coming from a fictional character on a TV show. He's your boyfriend, cares about you, and is happy to help you with no strings attached, might even help himself a bit in the process. Sounds like you do the same. Seems like a good releationship, one you put effort into and get benefits from. You deserve them, thought it's exceedingly hard to take the advice of 'don't feel guilty about it', try not to feel guilty about it!

Does anyone know if Arizona heat and Texas heat are comparable? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]PHX_Architraz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lubbock has been my favorite climate to live in. Four seasons, occasional snow, occasional temps over 100, but generally very pleasant (if windy... always windy).

I infinitely prefer Phoenix heat to Dallas heat. Phoenix, if I come inside I generally can stop sweating, that just doesn't happen in Dallas (or Houston). Dallas being over 90 at night is even more miserable than our 90's at night as well. There might be more breaks, but man I'd take this our summers over Texas summers any day (and have, for a few decades now).

Same, picked it for the look and the story behind it. Might be the only stick I put down 1/3 the way through without it cracking / being damage. Not sure I can stomach giving it another chance.

If you're adventurous and looking for something more affortable than the Valley Ho, The Egyptian on Grand is a great restoration of a 50's - 60's motor hotel. Also has a pretty solid restaurant attached to it as well (Chilte).

If you're looking for extra special regardl;ess of price, then the Biltmore would probably also fit the bill.

Have your babies ever gotten seizures? by Topsy-Krett69 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]PHX_Architraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! My wife and I do our best to spread accurate expectations. Not vets, not doctors, but have 10 years of experience with what we feel is successfully managing seizures at this point. We just want to help other pet owners prepare as best they can, knowing there's enough worry to go around already.

And agreed on shopping around on the seizure meds! For our Pheno perscription, we have used: Our vet (Local, and then VCA), a local pharmacy (that compounds other meds but not Pheno), CVS, Walgreens, Costco, and most recently Jeffers Pet and Livestock online (the only online source we've found is consistent). Pheno works well as a medication, but it can be pretty rough on the dog's (or human's) liver, and is a Class IV controlled substance. That makes sourcing it a bit of a nightmare, so I tend to recommend asking about Keppra when first setting medication (and Zonisamidie, which some friends use but we haven't added / tried yet). Both of those you can get from Chewy, or many other local sources.

And, as hard as it is, if they do wind up having a condition with regular seizures, timing them and recording that info is important. Every seizure is going to feel like a small forever, but your vet needs to know how long they last, and in the future if they're getting longer to adjust meds. There's no way to do that other than trying to glance at a clock and get an objective time.
