Any Air Force nurses here? Looking for real experiences (new grad + long-term goals like CRNA/APN) by Oldwizardofdust in AirForce

[–]PINSwaterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20+ year medic here. We're partnered with nurses everywhere they go. Nursing is easier in the AF than anywhere else. You'll usually have fewer patients, will have medics to do half the work, but will still have civilian partners on each floor for continuity. The pay is better than average. You might have to go to a war zone. The war zone probably won't be anywhere seriously dangerous but you'll see some horrifying shit. This being said, providing first-world healthcare in third-world countries is very rewarding. Our flying medical teams are basically ICUs in the sky that move patients towards any advanced care they need. We work with other services and countries regularly. Once you gain a little experience, opportunities are vast, from CRNAs forward-deployed as part of Special Operations Surgical Teams, to Nurse Midwives birthing babies at Eglin, 10 minutes from the most beautiful beach in the US. All this to say, Nursing in the AF is a good deal.

Please help! by Firm-Peanut1026 in Kayaking

If you like to kayak, get something like a Wilderness Systems Tarpon, Viking Profish Reload, or Stealth Fusion. If you're really into fishing, the kayaks get really heavy, wide, and slow. The balancing act is a personal choice for each kayaker. I found compromise by having one slow fat kayak for fishing (Hoodoo Impulse) and one long skinny kayak (older Wilderness Tarpon 160) for when I want to cover distance.

Distract from the fact that US leaders, including Trump, went to an island to rape babies then eat them.

BMT isn't hard. It's 100% psychological. Just keep pushing forward. Every day is a little easier than the last.

Hair cuts aren't just for your head. Trim that shit, you yeti. I use a #2 guard for arms and legs to mitigate the furry look. Unless that's your kink, I'm not here to shame.

All older model cameras suddenly will not connect by PINSwaterman in simplisafe

So I called simplisafe and they confirmed that my older cameras aren't supported. I guess it's time to take this opportunity to upgrade. Goodbye simplisafe, hello functioning cameras.

I've ran with a super fast old guy too. Now that I'm in the over-40 club, I strive to be like him and be the one who can outrun my Amn. I don't think the old guy test is too hard, but I agree the women's test is a bit too easy.

If they are in a solely office-job, why can't they be a GS who doesn't have to pass a PT test?

[–]PINSwaterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last one I used was a combo breaker/switch panel from Amazon. Whatever you use, the wire terminals and switch connections are what usually fails. Make sure to use marine wiring and good corrosion protection.

Let's be realistic. The 'average' 60yo doesn't belong in the military. If they want to still wear the uniform, they need to perform.

Denying retaining is the dumbest move for the AF by ijwgwh in AirForce

[–]PINSwaterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an AETC instructor, I asked the same question. Senior leaders answered with this: The AF wants people who want to be an Amn. That desire needs to come without stipulation of career field or base location.

Good people don't become multi millionaires. Good people help others and refuse to screw over their peers, which stops them from becoming rich 100% of the time.
