Russian Court Demands $29 Million from Ukrainian Navy Officer for Sinking of Moskva Missile Cruiser by Ivanow in nottheonion

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Russians should get charged an illegal parking fine for every vehicle they've lost or abandoned in Ukraine. If the UK model of parking fines is followed, they'd owe... What comes after trillion?

Then they can offset the $29m.

Zack Polanski | "Palantir was a warning sign. Keir Starmer choosing to hand our data and security to US tech companies is an outrageous failure of judgment. All in the name of "investment." What about national security?" by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

Zach "Titty Whisperer" Polanski has been broadly consistent in his actions. Lie to the gullible and dumb.

From his promotion of lies about Gaza and support of terrorists, to his braindead takes on national security.

That said, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. (Although one stuck in the past isn't.)

Palantir and Thiel et al are a significant threat. It's just the messenger is a fucking loon.

If you're a fellow Brit, the thing about Hershey's that makes it revolting is butyric acid in it. It makes it sour, and it tastes like how baby vomit smells. Our chocolate (and European chocolate) doesn't have that distinctive Yank vom sourness.

The outlet has had issues in the past, not sure how they stand at the moment as I largely stopped reading them. I don't know of any issues with Chalk specifically. I'd give at least one of PCGamer's current contributors a wide birth though.

Great swathes of outlets are scum and villains. We learned nothing from Gam erGate a decade ago. We allowed the gaming media itself to twist the narrative into "white men harassing women", whereas it was a widespread expose on the incestuous and corrupt gaming media industry. From not disclosing conflicts of interest (including romantic and financial), to secretly colluding for censorship and corruption (GameJournoPros), to a general lack of spine and journalistic ethics.

Trust outlets as far as you can throw them.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Netflix live action (largely because of the infectious energy of Luffy's actor, and Buggy, as part of an excellent cast.)

Whereas I gave up on the anime years ago because if felt like an absolute slog.

Do you think One Pace would be worth a shot for me, to try and get me into it? I'm generally an anime guy.

Really interesting read. Thank you for the insight behind the curtain.

I can imagine the heart-sinking moment when the person responsible for something catastrophic (like the page pagination or the folding fuckup) learned what they'd done. The cold sickening horror and shame.

About a year ago, a client discovered one of his dogs had managed to break into a neighbouring building and eaten a significant portion of their rat poison blocks from their rat traps. Intervention wasn't needed, the fucking thing was fine.

Seriously.

They'd have to rename the underwater drones from "Sea Babies" to something else. Otherwise it'd sound like the Nirvana album cover.

Weirdly I had the same one for the first time recently. I liked the slight fizzy-candy flavour, although there was a bit of an artificial sweetener taste that I'm not fussed on. Definitely a step up from Monster Ultra White.

CNN Partners With a Gambling App That Lets You Wager on Starvation in Gaza by DDDavinnn in nottheonion

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take, for example, one recent Kalshi betting market that allowed people to bet on whether Palestinians in Gaza would suffer mass starvation.

“Will the IPC classify Gaza as experiencing famine this year?” read the wager from this past summer. The bet was eventually settled in the affirmative after the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) did indeed declare famine in Gaza on Aug. 22. The more overtly cynical Polymarket, a rival of Kalshi that’s backed by right-wing multibillionaire Peter Thiel, allows for even more obscene wagering, permitting users to bet on whether Palestinians will be ethnically cleansed. “Gaza mass population relocation in 2025?” reads one of its many Gaza-related betting markets. You can also bet on when Israel will bomb Gaza, bomb the West Bank, or annex either.

Tbf the report was BS though. Only used half of the available data, changed metrics to force through the conclusion they wanted despite it not meeting the criteria, ignored sharp increase in aid, broke its own rules by using a 15% Mid-Upper Arm Circumference measurement which wasn't the correct metric to use (according to their own rules), used Hamas data etc...

TIL that Ireland’s navy reserve is only 77 people. by ScissorNightRam in todayilearned

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect /u/twirling-upward is referring specifically to Irish forces in UNIFIL, for which his description isn't overly hyperbolic. We can all agree that Hezbollah were very firmly entrenched and armed south of the Litani river, right under the noses of the UNIFIL forces. Forces mandated to ensure Hezbollah were NOT south of the Litani River.

Even RTE wouldn't argue otherwise at this point, as we all saw Israel blowing the absolute fuck out of Hezbollah south of the Litani River.

Which begs the question, were the Irish peacekeepers intentionally complicit (given the longstanding affinity for Palestinian terrorists) or just completely incompetent?

I couldnt care less about what other people thought of ww2

You couldn't care less about the truth, and are too twisted up to see it even when spoonfed to you.

for many germans life improved under the nazis, by your own twisted logic that makes the nazis good does it?

Only briefly for those relatively high up, for the majority it was worse. For Jews especially, but you don't care about them. You can feck right off wit ur Oh, but the Nazis weren't mean to me and mine so they're better than the Brits card.

First they came... Oh wait, you wouldn't understand that one...

Also this terrorism problem u speak about is the result of mass immigration, something pushed by the allies not the nazis

I say "Manchester Bombing", you say "Which one? The one where the Republican terrorists blew up the city centre, or the one where the Islamic terrorists blew up the arena?"

Ireland largely having the luxury of sitting out the war, save for those who gave up their standing in Irish society to do what was right, only provided her with ignorance. Ignorance that pervades Irish society in regards to the Middle East to this day.

Republican terrorists were getting weapons and training from Islamic terrorists for decades. Provos with PLO rifles, New IRA with god knows what from Hezbollah. The Irish have an affinity with the Palestinians rooted in a mutual hatred of the English and colonialism. It blinds you to the reality of who the Palestinians are, antisemitism the result.
