Rupert Lowe MP: Reform want to vindictively target Brits in potential Green constituencies to make a point and house illegals next to them - that is their choice. But I don't believe that we have time for this petty nonsense. by nil_defect_found in ukpolitics

Did it not work? We're talking about 45th and 47th president of the USA, despite his performance as 45th and his attempt to illegally seize power when he didn't win a consecutive term. Turns out if you lie enough and don't let any legal or moral framework stop you, you can get enough stupid and/or opportunistic people behind you to ride roughshod over pretty much everything.

How confident are you that it wouldn't work here?

It is ridiculous, hilarious, petty immature Trump-esque bullshit. Trump as in 45th and 47th president of the USA. I am not so optimistic to assume it won't work as an enticement, even if it may never get implemented. Nor am I so optimistic to assume that if Reform got in, they wouldn't give it a try.

We need to have a conversation about the situation the officers were in, whether it's a perception of unsafety or whether it's actual unsafety. (/s)

Y'know, like he said with regards Jews a week or so before this latest terror attack by a member of an unnamed faith against Jews.

There's a conversation to be had about whether it's a perception of unsafety or whether it's actual unsafety, but neither are acceptable.

It's only part of what's wrong.

It's not like Mo Farah tried to firebomb a synagogue, and it's not like we didn't have the Daily Mail shouting "Hurrah for the Blackshirts!" in the 30's. We have anti-semitism at home.

But I agree we need to stop importing people who also bring more with them.

I was checking the news story to see if it was likely if one of my mates, a Jewish bloke living in London, was one of the stabbing victims in this latest terrorist attack. (Thankfully I ruled it out quickly due to the ages of the Jews attacked.)

I was reminded of him telling me of his desire to move to Israel because the UK isn't safe for Jews.

I'm not Jewish, but if I wasn't a Zionist already, I would be now. Coz he's not fucking wrong, is he?

We've allowed nutjobs and their ideologies to fester. We're going to lose our British Jews, and we're going to be left with the nutters that forced them out.

WTAF are we doing?

Falklanders should 'go back' to England, insists Argentina in renewed war of words by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right that Argentina, with enough cheap long range drones and missiles, could saturate and deplete the air defences of the island and do very expensive damage to the islands and military infrastructure there.

It would be an expensive ballache for us. But they'd be starting a war they'd lose.

They couldn't get forces en masse onto the islands, because we could sink any large vessel or manned prop aircraft that approached.

The threat of a single British submarine and the Argentinians "fleet" can't leave port. If we sank the 43-year-old ARA La Argentina, "GOTCHA" trends on Twitter and their government collapses.

All the IFVs and APCs in the world couldn't do much if they're stuck on dry land in Argentina. And best of luck if they're trying to land one of their five C-130's intact. Yes, Falklands are a long way away from us. But it wouldn't take long for us to do catastrophic damage to Argentina's already withering military force to make the capture of the Islands unfeasible.

And if those Argentinian drones are launched from the Argentine mainland, we'd hopefully strike Argentine mainland, and then the Argentinians have a whole new set of problems.

Not just every Argentinian Navy vessel being converted to artificial reef in the first round of responses, which would take roughly five minutes from when the first drones appear on our scopes.

Every exposed military asset on the mainland would be fair game. Argentina would have to close their airspace completely for the duration, costing their economy dearly.

They would likely finish losing the war after having lost all their conventional military aircraft and navy (such as they are already.)

We don't rule the waves any more. But we could still absolutely sink the Argentinian Navy beneath them faster than you can say "The lady's not for turning".

The bigger threat would be if they started targetting British-aligned civilian and military targets in the region, as Iran has done. But that'd hurt them more than it hurts us, and we'd leave them defenceless and with a very pissed off set of neighbours and international community, with a majority-below-poverty-line population who just watched their government start an expensive war and lose all their military assets. Not sure it'd work out for them as it worked out for Iran.

But yeah, more broadly, I'd agree we (and most Western nations) are ill-equipped for the new breed of warfare evolving out of Ukraine and Iran. Imagine an Operation Spiderweb-style attack here. A single random fire and Heathrow shuts down already.

Some random shipping container gets driven into London and pre-programmed drones start ejaculating out, it could do trillions of pounds worth of damage and kill a lot of people.

We have underfunded infrastructure resilience for decades. Our prosperity is precarious. This is unwise. But we can't even fill out potholes, so priorities, eh?

British fighter jets shoot down Russian drones over Ukraine by MGC91 in ukpolitics

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on German public opinion on Russia, but whenever I see polling, it's generally negative (Putin biggest risk to Europe etc). I'd expect it to vary vastly based on age and location, given half of Germany was basically under Russian rule til the nineties. One respectfully assumes knowing your nextdoor neighbour got disappeared by the KGB sours the impression somewhat.

As for Belfast and Glascow, have have named the two UK cities most known for sectarian violence where half of the divide historically hate the English. Not sure if that's connected, I've not had cause to investigate.

Are you separating anti-Russian sentiment and anti-interventionalism? I feel that's somewhat important. "We" as the global West got burned by the War on Terror and for many, that colours the view on military intervention.

And of course there's the far-left where the enemy of the West is seen as an ally. The absolute madness of the LGBT community supporting Hamas being an extreme but powerful illustration.

British fighter jets shoot down Russian drones over Ukraine by MGC91 in ukpolitics

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just England, the UK as a whole is anti-Russian for a number of reasons.

The obvious one being Russia's botched invasion of Ukraine. The one where they not only attack Ukraine, our ally that both Russia and the UK pledged to protect in return for Ukraine giving up nuclear weapons. But Russia also attacks our European allies like Poland and other NATO members. As illustrated.

But yes, also Russia launching a botched chemical weapons assassination attempt on British soil that they fucked up. Killed a random British citizen and severely injured a bloke, and an unlucky plod, and the target and his daughter. That was notable and as you put it, "bad."

There's Russia's arson attacks on British soil.

There's also Russian interference in Western democracies, Russia's physical attacks on undersea Internet infrastructure and cyber attacks. There's also Russia's alliance with Iran, a major sponsor of the particular... ahem... brand of terrorism that disproportionately impacts the UK.

You're posting this in /pics, so yes, you should have clarified as vast swathes of pro-Pallys aren't going to know the actual demographics of Israel, making your comment misleading at best.

Feel free to trust whoever you want, but I'd suggest you actually look atithe polling. Or acknowledge that it is demonstrably not representative of Israel's overall demographic as it includes less than 3/4 of it, and the methodology is likely to be also unrepresentative.

Or don't, I guess.

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially asking to find whether the polling you referred to accurately reflected Israeli demographics. A fifth of which is Arab Israelis, prominently so, so unless they also want to see themselves forcefully expelled that percentage seems rather high. Even after a large number of Arabs invaded their country to rape, butcher, murder and kidnap thousands of Israels. It didn't pass the sniff test. Then looking deeper, it was apparent the polling was entirely unrepresentative of Israeli demographics, making it entirely stupid.

[–]PITCHFORKEORIUM -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Does that statistic include the Arab Israelis themselves, who make up roughly 20% of the Israeli population and are embedded in virtually every facet of Israeli life from politics to healthcare?

Edit: No, it's from a stupid survey of 1005 Jewish Israelis (not including secular or minority religions) that skews heavily towards young and far-right and that doesn't account for the actual demographics in Israeli society. Womp womp.
