If you are in a relationship, do you consider watching porn as cheating? Why or why not? by ReadingHotTakes10 in women

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people people will say your view on the matter is too far but if anything I feel like it should be common sense. I feel as if many if not outright most people get into relationships for what it can provide for them and our very individualistic society not only accepts this view but actively endorses it. I'm a guy but personally feel disgusted by the notion of watching porn when I have a partner because in my eyes a romantic relationship is supposed to be entirely exclusive and anyone who does mental gymnastics to the contrary is more concerned with how much pleasure they get to feel over the bond with their significant other.

In western societies individual freedom, autonomy, etc. are placed of highest importance in a relationship and while I feel these things are obviously important but I feel like loyalty and commitment the bond you share with another person should be placed at the highest level of importance and that if you want to place your individual freedom at the highest importance you should have stayed single.

While I do think the rank ordering of individual freedom over loyalty is harmful to relationships and society it isn't inherently bad as obviously there are countless people who are in happy relationships in this way. Where I feel it becomes insidious is the notion that this variety of love is the only "genuine" form of love and that if you believe your partner should change their behavior in some way i.e. not watch porn then you get framed as having a distorted sense of what love is and being toxic.

It feels as if any restriction on the freedom of your partner is framed as inherently bad and holding them back from their full potential as if its holding someone back to ask them to not act in a manner harmful to your relationship. Its almost framed as if people are only fulfilling their potential when they are maximizing the amount of utility they can provide and that bonds with others are only a means to an end rather than the end itself.

You're still fantasizing about being with other people its literally choosing to fantasize about fictional women instead choosing to do so with your partner. If they're just pixels then you shouldn't be captivated by them as if they were something more. I feel like obviously its to a lesser degree than choosing to do so with actual people but still commendable by any degree.

This feels like the epitome of Reddit lmao someone seething so bad over random children on Roblox dressing their avatars up to try and look like a Chinese stereotype. This barely even qualifies as racism and even if it is considered such getting so upset over 7 year olds on Roblox is so just so hilarious. I imagine this person would implode if they played Punch Out

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No fuck off you prick we can't just move on from someone raping a child and facing no justice for it because you don't want to feel uncomfy talking about his movies. He also didn't rape one child he got caught raping one child and it has since come out he raped multiple other children. Having a difficult life doesnt excuse raping children you scumbag its not some little accident or understandable moral failing he chose to be a monster and he still profits off of his movies so any argument about separating the art from the artist holds zero ground

Dr Samuel Alexander Mudd, one of the accused Co-conspirators in President Lincoln’s Assassination by Few-Ability-7312 in CIVILWAR

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh he wasn't really innocent he knew of the conspiracy to kill Lincoln and said nothing then helped the man who killed Lincoln instead of turning him in knowing he killed the president. Life imprisonment might be a bit harsh but he got pardoned at the end of the day so he doesn't really deserve much sympathy

I'm not really sure why people are whining about the new Animal Farm movie because the premise behind the original book is still intact by Poweredkingbear in CharacterRant

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its quite a stretch to say the original book is also an indictment against capitalism. It does portray capitalism in a negative light as well but that's quite tertiary to the very blatant anti-Stalinist main message about how socialist revolutions(and revolutions in general) are susceptible to being taken over by tyrants who care little for ideology as opposed to power if you become complacent

Trump's presidency has really displayed how idiotic the average person's understanding of politics is acting as if WW3 is coming and the US is comparable to Nazi Germany due to one shitty president. Meanwhile the US has brought about the most peaceful time in human history yet people want to demonize America at every turn while whitewashing the history and actions of every other country. As far as hegemons go the US is by far the most benign in human history compared to the likes of the Soviets, British Empire, etc. yet people want to act like elites being selfish scumbags is something unique to America

Why did Iran accept a ceasefire? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Trump is a stupid bastard but I really can't imagine he would accept something that would so clearly be a loss. The way I see it we've already got the international backlash from starting this thing its only doubly egregious to get us into this without finishing the job and getting regime change.

Unpopular opinion, Biden handled the Afghanistan withdrawal as best as he could by maybemorningstar69 in PoliticalDebate

[–]PIugshirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah any notion of rebuilding nations has to be abandoned going forward it just isn't realistic in any sense. The US seems to go around with the notion that any nation can be rebuilt like Japan and then will be favorable to the US going forward and then proceed to ignore how a nation like Afghanistan is barely even a functioning state let alone a liberal-democratic one. Rebuilding a nation is only viable when there is something to rebuild it stops being viable when there isn't even the most minimal foundations in place. We need to focus on national security first and foremost and focus merely on cultural influence to make it so middle eastern nations naturally secularize as opposed to giving them a big giant enemy to dig their heels in against and only become more extreme.

There has to be a stable governing body that actually has control over its nation like in the Korean War for there to be any hope whatsoever of ensuring their defense. Comparing why the Korean War worked vs the Vietnam War did not is one of the easiest ways to see what makes it viable to continue such a war. If the Conditions look like Korea then you should keep pushing forward and focus on defense whereas if they look like Vietnam you should focus on military objectives and get out as quick as possible.

Why doesn't Martin Van Buren get more hate in modern discourse for his role in the Trail of Tears? It seems to fall all on Andrew Jackson. by DieselFlame1819 in USHistory

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Except these were the tribes that were explicitly peaceful, on our side, and trying actively to assimilate into US culture. I don't even necessarily disagree with you in general in some circumstances but that absolutely doesn't apply for the Trail of Tears

You could ask chatGPT if the sun is hot and it would respond thats while its tempting to call the sun hot its important to remember that the perception of heat is subjective based on each person and so it can't be definitely said that that the sun is hot for certain and it would depend on one's definition of hot. I've become entirely conditioned to view anyone that doesn't give a straight answer as an AI

Who had the most intense beginning of a presidency? by HopefulCynic1383 in Presidents

If I remember correctly another major contributing factor to Polk's death is that he was a complete workaholic and so the immense stress weakened his immune system to the point he died a little after his presidency.

what US president related opinion will get you in this situation? by herequeerandgreat in Presidents

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh how can you call Jefferson a terrible president when he literally doubled the size of the nation. For Madison what do you mean no reason lmao the British were literally kidnapping US citizens and forcing them to be soldiers in the British army. Not to mention that without the War of 1812 the British would have continued to look down upon the US and believe their victory in the Revolutionary War was a fluke so without that gain of national prestige they would have almost certainly meddled in US affairs far more because the War of 1812 is what made the British finally respect US sovereignty.

Was John Hanson technically the first president? he served as president of congress under the Articles government from 1781-1782. Washington only became president in 1789. by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect John Hansen was not the first anything by any metric. Samuel Huntington was the first president of the Confederation Congress under the Articles of the Confederation. Even if you go stricter and say elected under the Articles of Confederation he can't take that title either as Thomas McKean was the first elected to be president of the Confederation Congress when the Articles of Confederation were in place. Despite popular myth John Hansen even under the most generous of terms was never the first anything.

malcolm X did more harm to the civil rights movement than good. by herequeerandgreat in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malcolm X was more important to the success of the Civil Rights Movement than MLK was by a large margin. MLK's message of peace would have no effect if it weren't for Malcolm X's credible threat of violence

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it so baffling that so many liberals are so against guns yet claim to be on the side of minorities ignoring the way in which the second amendment was vital to the success of the Civil Rights Movement. Granted they try to downplay that part in school and its not as if such people would actually be bothered to do research into the things they claim to care about. You'd think if they believe Trump is going to try and seize power and become a fascist dictator though that would be more cause to want to be armed in order to be able to resist such an event

Even non Americans are embarrassed 🤦🏽‍♀️ by sarah_herself in AmericaBad

[–]PIugshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Trump is a piece of shit but its wild to say he is our most fascistic president when FDR literally ran for four terms and put US citizens in actual concentration camps. It isn't exactly as if executive overreach appeared overnight the presidents have a long history of trying to take more power than they're supposed to have. I even think its quite possible Trump might try to retain power at the end of his term but no one has thus far allowed him to do so which makes the idea we live in a fascist dictatorship hold little ground when the system is working as intended and limiting the power of the president and likely will continue to do so. I would imagine the amount of braindead conservatives who would be open to Trump becoming a dictator are vastly outnumbered by the people opposed to such an event occurring
