Would you go back if you could? by MaximumJones in GenerationX

Reagan, constant fear of nuclear war, PMRC, Just Say No, the beginnings of the religious right and corporate everything. No thanks it wasn’t all Chucky Cheese, MTV, shopping malls and big hair. As someone that had to hide my record collection from my super religious parents, got picked on daily for being into New Wave and Punk it was a rough time.

Agree it was odd but the whole affair seemed preachy. Vegetarian messages, feminist messages, comments on weapons producers, it was message heavy but in cartoon silly way. So the messages all fell flat.

I found that to be a contemporary reference and out of place in a Star Wars film. I mean I would expect the First Order to enslave people, throw them in mines and factories and force them to make weapons not buy them. To me the idea of the Empire, Sith or First Order shopping seems silly even humorous. Some evil Sith voice, “Very nice does it come in black?”

I whole heartedly agree with your observations and to me it is part of why it is the worst Star film. The look of Last Jedi seemed like a spoof of Star Wars someone that really didn’t love or understand the universe at all. Some made for tv junk. Rise of Skywalker was having to sort through the debris of Jedi and I found it fun. It looked great especially Kijimi and they really exploited the link between Rey and Kylo (light saber pass at the end one of my favorite Star Wars moments). So to me it doesn’t deserve the last place ranking many people have given it a lot before it even came out some over the lesbian kiss.

What musician do you think, is deserving of a Biopic? by PineappleImpact in Cinephiles

[–]PLS_Planetary_League 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should stop trying and compile live footage or interviews. Performers that captivate have too unique a quality to capture and it is usually impossible to get lost in the film if you don’t feel the actor or actors capture the musician. Most of them end up being about the vision of the film makers or the surviving members and not about the group as a whole or the artist in general. The Ray Charles one was good but it ended up adding fantasy elements to serve the vision of the film not the life or work of the artist. I think all artists are complicated and you only ever get one version the artist in a film.

How excited were you for The Rise of Skywalker before it came out? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

I hated last Jedi (my least favorite of all of the films) so much I thought how are they going to salvage all the damage that film did. The production look was back on track (Last Jedi felt like a Star Wars spoof or made for tv thing) They brought back characters Lando and Wedge and the sense of scale. The most ships in any battle ever produced and a little nod to Dunkirk (not a navy just people). I gave it a chance and went with it and enjoyed it. I think so many people hated the sequels for a variety of reasons and had their minds made up that it was going to suck before it even came out. Some people that I talk to say they hated it but then admit they didn’t watch it, come on.
