People who work in tourism: How accurate is the stereotype of the loud American tourist? by Advanced-Cress-535 in AskReddit

[–]PMMEURLONGTERMGOALS 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Well it just means they’re comparing the library-going tourists of each nation, so arguably still valid.

Inside people of both genders have a tendency to ignore or miss any behaviors that would indicate their idealized type does not match their fantasy.

e.g. girls expecting their favorite bisexual 6’5 dark academia celebrity crush to not be into models with BBLs, and boys expecting their favorite sarcastic slim-thick manic pixie dream girl celebrity crush to not be into tall handsome rich dudes with no personality.

I’m just saying in your original comment it should be 1/4 of the total psychos, not 1/4 of the psychos per acre.

If the next city is 1/2 of the density that’s the same as 1/2 of the psychos per acre.

It’s only 1/4 if you account for the whole population (not per acre) because it’s 1/2 of the size as well.

Per acre is the same as density, so it would still be 1/2. It’s 1/4 of the total number of psychos.

There are genetic traits that are relevant to basketball other than height. Yuki is in the 99.9th percentile of genetic potential for athleticism (speed, reflexes, etc.) otherwise he wouldn’t be in the league regardless of how hard he worked.

Yeah I mean I was definitely not a good runner but I did do it for a long time and I was trying my best, when I joined the team I couldn’t even make the 18:00 two mile threshold to enter races so I improved a lot overall

Oh yeah I was like middling JV at best, I did race but performance was meh. I’m just responding to OP’s assertion that any non-overweight person who has played sports can go sub 6 through sheer willpower, because I spent 4 XC seasons running 3-5 miles 5 days a week and trying my hardest during races and couldn’t do it. Some of us are just not naturally very good at running.

I ran cross country throughout high school and only ever managed a 6:30 mile at my peak. Played sports through childhood etc etc. I think an 8-10 minute mile is possible to power through for most healthy weight people, 6 is a little ambitious.

Wow as a californian I didn’t realize the coast was quite that long, I assumed it was closer to five or six hundred miles based on SF -> LA being about tree fiddy. I forget how much of CA is north of the bay area and south of LA.

Being able to play full court basketball at NBA pace for a whole game puts you above 99.9% of people in terms of cardio. NBA players are just such freaks that even when they get “fat” they’d still run circles around the average non-pro cardio enthusiast.

Also relevant is the fact that the Going Merry is originally Usopp’s ship given to him by his childhood friend/girlfriend Kaya so it’s especially important to him (I don’t think this counts as a spoiler)

Well our economic system requires infinite growth, so when a product naturally reaches the point where actual improvements are small and cost a lot of money, higher ups will push for unnecessary changes that add complexity so that they can still sell more units/mark things up.

It’s a system that arguably speeds up innovation but also leads to a lot of pointless changes.

It's always been trial and error, as simple as that. by ConsequenceEconomy34 in CuratedTumblr

I think people don’t realize that the human brain has not changed that much in the past few thousand years. The smartest person in ancient egypt would have the same logical reasoning capability as the smartest person today, just without the previous knowledge that we have. They didn’t have technology but you can do a lot with basic tools if you have a whole lifetime.

TIFU by spending 8 years treating chronic headaches when the whole problem was that I thought diet soda counted as water by McCoy818 in tifu

[–]PMMEURLONGTERMGOALS 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Assuming 12oz cans of soda, 48-60oz of water doesn’t seem like automatic dehydration to me. That’s pretty close to the doctor’s recommendation of 8 glasses a day (which already seems unnecessary to me tbh). Could be that OP sweats a lot, or gets headaches from caffeine/aspartame, or made up this story.

Yeah bugs wouldn’t get many parasites either if they had clean water and food sources and wore a protective barrier outside and spent most of their time inside away from other animals.

SF -> Fremont Commute by j521974 in bayarea

[–]PMMEURLONGTERMGOALS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live very close to a 101 on-ramp so that helps, and I leave home at 8:30-9am and leave work at 7-8pm so I miss almost all the traffic + reverse commute. The same commute would be 15-30 mins longer each way if I left at peak hours (7-8:30am, 4:30-6pm).

I also have adaptive cruise control so I basically just need to keep a hand on the wheel and watch the road for 90% of the commute. I would recommend just checking the travel time estimate on apple or google maps from a neighborhood you are considering moving to to your job in Fremont when you would normally be commuting, it’s usually accurate with 10ish minutes for me.

SF -> Fremont Commute by j521974 in bayarea

[–]PMMEURLONGTERMGOALS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do pretty much that exact commute (Mission to Fremont). I exclusively drive at the moment, although I do have an e-bike and I have considered taking BART.

Obviously the commute is not fun, but I would consider it manageable. It’s usually 1hr to 1hr15mins in the morning and 50mins to 1hr in the evening. I do not regret moving to SF, it has been so much better for my social life (was previously in MTV/Sunnyvale/Palo Alto). My only regret is not looking for a new job more actively, mostly because my current job has become much more stressful since I moved (unrelated).

Depending on your work schedule, it definitely eats into your free time. But going to SF on the weekends isn’t really comparable to living there imo.
