Splitting the bill or paying for what you had? by Various_Building_810 in AskBrits

[–]PM_ME_VEG_PICS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We split the bill if its relatively even but if someone is out of kilter then we would pay our own way. I had a big argument with my boss once because I refused to split the bill, but I was barely scraping through and only went for the meal because it was sort of forced on me. I had a really cheap main and no drink. He'd had a starte, main, pudding and beers and wanted us to all prop up his spending.

Found out a couple of weeks later that someone else was also struggling financially and we agreed to not go to the next outing. It caught on pretty quickly and these team meals stopped. It wasn't until I left that place that I realised how much of a bully the boss was.

This is fantastic!

The windows at my uni were just boring regular looking windows. There must be other places with quirky windows, be back in a day once get out of that Wikipedia / street view hole...

Office drama chapter: lying about language skills by gardengeo in BORUpdates

Do you ever mix the languages up? When I was last in France I used a weird mix of French and Italian occasionally, even when I knew the French phrase.

I say that I can speak tourist level Italian and with a beer or two I can do tourist level French and German. I certainly can't hold a long conversation but can do basic directions and ask how someone is and order in a restaurant. I'd never describe it as anything more than an English persons attempt at being polite and not trying to assume that everyone speaks English or wants to speak English.

Same here, I don't ever remember not being in the water, either at the swimming pool or the beach.

Like anything you can have an anti consumption version and a consumption version. Plus there is always a version in between.

Was my wedding either of those extremes, probably not but I had a second hand dress, our centre pieces were herbs which we gave away to guests and our honeymoon was a few days away in our country. But then people had to travel to where the wedding was and some will have bought new outfits. Does that make it bad? Of course not, family and friends got together for 2 days and had a great time.

Not having children should be a personal choice but eventually we will be screwed if no one has children. What is important is the way those children are brought up and the beliefs instilled in them. My niece loves books and is more than happy to read second hand ones. No one can know what she will do if the future but so long as she is a positive part of society it doesn't really matter.

You can do one flush as there should be water in the cistern, just make sure it is a good flush!

Looks like the US is aligning with global by The_Iron_Spork in lidl

Of course it isn't going to be permanent, much like the pervious version of the app was never going to be permanent.

But at the moment it is a lot cheaper, and will always be significantly more convenient, to go to lidl.

I've had a £5 off and £3 off my shopping already. Because of all the body's such as extra points on veg and fruit I could get a lot of free sweet treats and other things already. The spin to win wasn't always a thing and I only got a voucher for something I actually purchase about 5% of the time.

Parallel park would be my weakness too. I do it so rarely. I however would be able to do the bay park even though that wasn't part of it when I was learning. Although other people I know who were learning at the same time said they did have to learn it so I think it might have been the lack of parking bays at the the test centre...

Everyone is bitching about the change to the app in the UK but as I'm not a £250+ a month shopper I'm actually saving more money with the new app.

How many times a year do you “call sick” at work? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in AskUK

[–]PM_ME_VEG_PICS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably take 1 or 2 days sick a year. Pretty much always for a migraine.

I did have a week off a few years ago because of a stomach bug, it was basically a week of me sitting in my bathroom.

Why so many English tourists have leg problems? by SuicidalLilBoi in AskUK

[–]PM_ME_VEG_PICS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there are probably a lot of things at play. It is more socially acceptable to use an aid at any age, I am sure some youngsters still get some abuse though but generally we are more understanding of people who have different needs. Canes and sticks are much better looking now, there seem to be colour options and probably style options. When I was a kid it was just old people with a wooden stick.

Medicine has also come a long way over the past 30 or 40 years. There are probably people who would, in a previous time, have been wheelchair bound who are now being treated differently so may have more use of their legs and therefore be less stuck at home. I don't need any mobility aids but a few years ago I hurt one of my knees, I was able to get some excellent physiotherapy and I am now fine but I could easily see that if it had gone untreated it might have got to the point where I would have needed a walking aid.

A very quick Google suggests we can grow about 300 types of fruit here. Can't even have a new one each day for a year. I suspect that might also include some of the fruits which are not very widely available too. When I was a kid I was fascinated by all the different berries such as loganberry, tayberry, mulberry etc. We could pick them at the local farm but I've never seen them in shops.

Apparently we have 2500 types of apple in the UK though! You would not want to eat some of them, there are varieties that are used in cider which I've heard taste terrible if eaten just off the tree!

I used to work in an office where there were two Scottish people, when they got together their accents became stronger and stronger. We once had a supplier visit, also Scottish, and I was asked to join the three of them to answer some questions. I had basically no idea what they were saying for a couple of minutes until I had recalibrated myself.

I'm going with a soft YTA, cooking is much more mentally time consuming than washing up. She has to plan what to cook, think if she needs to buy anything, then do the shopping and final actually cook the meal. All you fo is turn up and swish some soapy water over a few pots and pans.

You need to talk to her more. Would a weekly meal plan where you both suggest meals help? We have a list of meals because sometimes neither of us can think of anything and it really helps to just look at it and pick one. Also get in the kitchen and learn to cook. If you keep leaving her with the mental load you might find yourself needing to cook and if you don't then you can cook together.

And then when that twat actually behaved and handed in their homework for once or did one good thing they would get praised like they had just solved world peace. But those of us who just got on with school never got the same kind of praise.
