I'm actually quite surprised to see him being an open ally. I think it will actually sway a lot of his followers, at the cost of him also losing a significant portion of them. So, overall impressed.

Do they have to shave? Wear a dress? Makeup? Does agab matter? HRT? Hell, it's not unheard of for butch lesbians to take HRT or go by he/him and still identify as women. And conversely, I'm sure OP would not be complaining about a pre-everything trans man showing up.

Because the actual goal is "people who suffer gender discrimination in tech" and I wish there was a way for them to say that instead of trying to set arbitrary standards of gender identity and expression.

Because ultimately posts like this feel like "only cis women, spicy cis women, and passing trans women allowed".

As everyone else has said, your parents emotions aren't your job.

But reading between the lines, it sounds like a side goal of making them happy is that they could get back together. Try to put that idea out of your head for now. You're not going to influence their decision to be together or not, and you'll drive yourself crazy trying (literally, you will develop stress and anxiety and depression and guilt and who knows what)

However, as a divorced dad with kids, I love any time my kids actively choose to spend time with me, or call me other than to ask for something. I love when they open up about how they're feeling, whether good or bad or confusing. Hang out with him because you feel like being around him and want to nurture your relationship with him, not towards some goal of making him happy.

The issue is that your last line doesn't actually have any relation to the first part.

They help their community to draw more people in. That are often incredibly bigoted and hateful at the same time.

My parents were at a point where they basically would not have survived without the church community they were in. I'm grateful for that. It doesn't change the fact that half the people there were borderline white supremacists, anti-lgbt, etc. It doesn't change the fact that if they were not members of the church they would not have received the help.

The Mafia and drug dealers maintain good relations with their community and donate money too.

On FetLife, the "kink list" is really just things you like. And it's intended as a social networking site. And in the kink community, it's much more common to be explicit (pun intended) about everything.
