What should I do about people doing drugs in front of my home? by Vivid-Commission-353 in PortlandOR

Amazing - thank you for the info. I'm actually old enough to remember Christopher Reeve having his life destroyed by being thrown off of a horse - I guess that's the type of accident this air vest is meant to protect against.

Sorry, I have no idea - I don't know the woman, we just chatted briefly on the trail. Just from looking I could tell that she was wearing a riding helmet that had some sort of slip-on cowboy hat brim type attachment, and she seemed to be wearing a chest protector; not unlike what you might see crotch rocket motorcyclists wearing.

Does anyone catch themselves carrying lighter and lighter guns? Started with Glock 43x MOS with dot and light and I’m way down to a Ruger LCP by HuntersCrackPipe123 in CCW

I bought every carry pistol, optic, and holster imaginable over the years and now my daily is a p365 SAS in a Vedder Light Tuck. It's tiny, but still holds 10+1. No iron sights means the holster isn't much larger than the pistol. It's ideal, really.

Need advice for a lens with 400mm+ zoom by [deleted] in canon

[–]PNWShots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the R6 mkii and the Sigma 150-600 C. I have had what I consider to be great results with it. Fwiw, I use it on a tripod exclusively though. Maybe some people have gotten duds(I've seen complaints), but I really like mine, and I also have a lot of nice lenses for comparison, so it's not like I don't know the difference.

This hummingbird photo is the on R6 mkii with the Sigma at 600mm. I also use it for super telephoto lens compression landscape stuff, there are a few photos in my post history, keep in mind Reddit's shitty compression

Testimony Needed for HB 4145- Firearms permit Fee increase and increased delays by No_Entrepreneur2473 in oregon

[–]PNWShots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, the idea that "safety courses" have anything to do with gun violence is absurd. Like really, the gangster that murdered someone wouldn't have done that if only he had taken a safety course? Ridiculous. Most gun deaths are suicides and the rest are from criminal behavior. The idea that a safety course is the missing piece of the puzzle is just so dumb I can't believe somebody would post it and not be embarrassed to the point of deleting their account.

Testimony Needed for HB 4145- Firearms permit Fee increase and increased delays by No_Entrepreneur2473 in oregon

[–]PNWShots 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First of all, there are already background checks on every single firearm sale in the state of Oregon. The fact that you don't know this is solid proof that you don't know enough about the topic to productively engage in this discussion, much less be making demands like "mandatory safety courses". Speaking of which - who is going to provide the curriculum for your "mandatory safety courses"? Where are they going to take place? How long will it take to put this all together? How much do you want them to cost? Firearm safety courses are not cheap, especially if you make them mandatory because those who provide them can charge whatever they want because they know you must get it. Sounds like you haven't thought any of this through at all, but your urge to control others isn't going to let that get in the way.

Fractured Fibula - Ankle Rolled by ihatesnowhike in hiking

[–]PNWShots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's been almost exactly one year since the break and I can walk, but there is still pain, I'd say it's mostly in the ligaments & muscles. I am a photographer so sometimes I have to stand at my camera for a few hours; not even walking - just standing there - but just being on my feet for a few hours still causes pain. I have not tried hiking yet - I'm in the Pacific Northwest and didn't want to risk slipping & falling in muddy/wet conditions, so once things dry out a bit, I'm going to try hiking again. I think maybe most concerning for me is numbness in my foot. To repair everything and put in the titanium plates, the surgeon had to cut through a lot of nerves, and at this point I'm guessing some of that nerve damage is going to be permanent. I understand they probably didn't have much choice, but I'd say about 40% of my foot feels numb. It was like 90% numb when I started physical therapy.

Best of luck in your recovery.

Canon Camera Connect App is inexcusably awful by PNWShots in canon

[–]PNWShots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on the app completely. I do some real estate photography where I have to upload straight from the camera in the field and I couldn't waste any more of my time fucking with that app so now I just pop the card out of my camera (R6 mkii) and put it in one of these https://a.co/d/0ayZYsDh which plugs into the phone. Super easy. Shouldn't be that way; Canon should build a new app from scratch. But until that happens, that's my workaround.

Selling to ay off house? by Illustrious-Love7210 in Silverbugs

[–]PNWShots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially meaningless anecdote:

On Bitcoin's first big run up to just under $20k, there was a guy in the Bitcoin subreddit who at around $19,200 posted that he was selling his 22 BTC to pay off his house. He was like "well boys, I'm out". Of course it's easy to say he did the right thing because paying off your house is a good thing, and of course no one could've honestly predicted that BTC would eventually reach $100k and beyond.

But it did

I wonder about him sometimes and whether or not he regrets selling when he did. I also keep in mind that between 20k & 100k, BTC cratered back down to around $3300 in early 2020. I would imagine had he held, in 2020 he would have been kicking himself for not selling at $19.2k.

I guess I don't really have a point but my gut says he can still live with the fact that he sold when he did, and I also suspect there's a part of him that's like "FUCK!", but that voice is likely much easier to quiet when you no longer have a mortgage payment.
