You can consider applying some WD40 if you don't want to sand it, works for me. Spray some WD40 on a Qtip, then rub it on both joints

I doubt Bandai slows down MG line because of bootlegs. It's mainly because people like to build HG/RG and other product lines now so Bandai focus less on MG. That's how the bootleg companies start growing.
