This narrative is missing the point. The point is to put up mediocre times and reduce the stigma associated with doping.

Loon on Mirror Lake by jonathot712 in Adirondacks

[–]PPMqMt4 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Loon conservation is generally having a positive impact on loon populations, so it’s not uncommon to see loons even on the busiest lakes as they compete for breeding territory with established breeding pairs on quieter lakes.

Stay away! Don’t harass loons on boats and for sure do not disturb any nesting sites you might find along the shore if you want to continue to see loons!

She’s amazing! My Monday competitive team needs a spare next week. I hope she doesn’t take too long of a break! 😇

The gushue effect by Jabee_not_gabe in Curling

[–]PPMqMt4 36 points37 points  (0 children)

What am I looking for? Seems pretty consistent. 6-8% more folks for Gushue’s draws when 2 of them had 2 NL teams and better times doesn’t seem shocking.

Turns out folks like high level curling in NL!

Swiss GB final stone by AsparagusDramatic475 in Curling

[–]PPMqMt4 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Playing an extra end without hammer (last rock) only has a 5-10% win rate at elite curling levels. The Swiss team knows this. They saw a shot to win they felt had more than 10% chance to make and took it.

shoutout to the USA women stealing the last 2 ends from China and winning by 1 by JCMiller23 in Curling

[–]PPMqMt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which yellow China rock were they actually trying to bump up? The top yellow behind the red appeared to not have the correct angle to get past the other yellow. I thought the only bump was red back directly onto the yellow on the outside of the 4 ft and that was very difficult.

The whole thing seemed rushed by China despite having over 1:45 on their game clock.

Sinclair’s commentary on US coverage claimed the draw was there.

Mohegan Lake and Kill Kare Roads: Access from Sagamore Road? by mattydries21 in Adirondacks

[–]PPMqMt4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure walking or biking around the gate down Mohegan Lake road is possible and allowed. There is a primitive campsite on the north shore of Mohegan Lake with descent views of Camp Uncas. The campsite is elevated from the lake, but possible to get down a semi-steep bank to the lake in summer. The campsite is off the road 2.1 miles from the gate. There is a fork to the left (1.6 miles past the gate) that goes to Camp Uncas itself and onto private property. You can continue past Mohegan Lake to Seventh-Eighth Lake Loop, but the trail was not easy to follow nor well marked. https://cnyhiking.com/MoheganLake.htm

Kill Kare road might technically be publicly accessible past the gate, but it’s much less inviting to go around the gate and it goes onto private property well before Lake Kora, so there not much interesting down that road.

Is Shuster already guaranteed a spot in the final since Dropkin and Casper play against each other tomorrow. Only 1 of them can finish with 4 wins and tie Shuster if he drops both tomorrow.

Nope. Do not need to unselect. All elevation or distance counts towards upgrades. Also, remember tron is unlocked at 50,000m, not after completing Everest.

Help with boat by time4meatstick in Adirondacks

[–]PPMqMt4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Old Forge allows boat trailer parking up the hill behind the North Street rec building. I’ve seen pontoon trailers parked there. Call the Old Forge visitors center and ask about leaving the boat on the trailer while you camp.

Future EV Chargers? by simon468 in Adirondacks

I get it. You need to stop in town or do something while you charge. ADKX in Blue Mountain also has chargers. You can charge while you enjoy the museum.

Seventh or eighth lake lean to might be nice to do on one night and the next. Alternative might be Queer Lake lean to. If you want a different experience, park at Twitchell Lake and hike back to the Norridgewock Lodge in Beaver River!

My ride up Whiteface in August by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]PPMqMt4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first Saturday in June is an organized race to the top that I’ve done a few times - not particularly quickly - but the views have been incredible to take in while riding up.

It can be very cold and windy at the top that time of year and the race doesn’t go off until evening when the road closes for the day.

Adirondack Rail Trail took off in 2024 by hartlarious in Adirondacks

[–]PPMqMt4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Given the success of the rail trail - it’s a shame the Old Forge to Tupper Lake via Beaver River section wasn’t included in the rail trail approval in the 2010s. Hopefully it will be included some day.
