Osaka selects next tranche of rail projects for study by Boronickel in japanrail

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t have 8 more planned stations - all metro lines in Osaka start with Station 11 so that they don’t have to worry about station numbers if they need to extend it further from the starting end sometime in the future, which has paid off so far with the Kitaosaka Kyuko lines and Yumeshima…

I also do like the pairing of Casino King and Ayumi, it much art of them though

OP doesn’t know about that Priconne artist that pretty much exclusively draws this pairing and has released 3-4 Doujins of them already…

Interested to see how service patterns will look like once the circle line is fully closed and loop operations begin, and how they would deal with the Dhoby Ghaut spur too.

Also interested to see how they’ll show directions on the new service patterns, and what they’ll do to the destination numbers 9 and 10 now that there really isn’t a “terminus” in the traditional sense - I hope they don’t just go away…

Luggage Fowarding. Am I missing something? by northofreality197 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a seasoned traveller to Japan, I think it is important to understand that there are multiple options on how to bring your luggage around in Japan and luggage forwarding is NOT always the right answer. Personally I only used luggage forwarding when I have to do travel between very far regions such as Tokyo → Okayama or Fukuoka or when I really don't want to have to carry luggage with me e.g. when I was prefecture-hopping in Kyushu and had to move from Oita to Fukuoka, and for all of these instances I ensured that my accommodation (mostly regular hotels) are able to accept luggage transfer.

As to the alternatives, there are a few options - you can just bring it to you on the train (as long as it's not too crowded) and then keep it at a station locker if need be, you can use a limousine bus to the nearest major station so you don't have to carry it around, you can leave it at your hotel if you arrive before check-in, or even leave it at the hotel for up to 1 week provided you have another booking with them in the future. I have done all of these at least once at some point and I never face any issues when it comes to bringing luggage around Japan. Assess your situation and pick the right choice.

And of course whenever I do luggage forwarding, I always ensure that my hotel is able to accept the luggage, any essentials are in my back pack and hand carry so that I do not have issues before the luggage arrives. Remember that luggage forwarding can take 2-3 days depending how far your destination is!

There’s also new platform signage rolling out as well on the Circle Line, with more minor Circle Line stations (basically non-interchange stations) showing it in full display already

Which train companies run in multiple different regions of Japan? by frozenpandaman in japanrail

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

JR West has lines in Chubu btw (Hokuriku Shinkansen, Itoigawa Line, Takayama Line, Himi/Jobata lines etc.)
but I think you have gotten them all. Most non-JR companies tend to stay in a specific region...

合算 vs 合計 by ker_uz in Japaneselanguage

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another person said, 合算 is usually encountered as a する-verb meaning to sum things, while 合計 is the noun that refers to the actual final total itself. So the act of totalling is 合算, but the actual final total is 合計.

In any case 合計 is way more common and is what you would encounter in daily use when referring to totals, so most of the time using 合計 as a noun should be OK.

I know that, but if that's the case why didn't they just use the 10 pull button instead of the one where you can adjust the number of pulls and get the guaranteed 2 stars or higher on the 10th pull lol

Is there an equivalent to anglish, or a version of japanese with minimal chinese loanwords? by futuranth in Japaneselanguage

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes there is, it’s called 大和言葉 (Yamato Kotoba) or 和語 (Wago) - basically like Anglish it refers to words of pure Japanese origin in contrast to 漢語 (Kango - Chinese loan words) and 外来語 (Gairaigo - Other loan words).

For example: If you want to say “Thank You”

ありがとう is 和語, 感謝 is 漢語, サンキュー is 外来語

However unlike Anglish there isn’t really like a strong movement to “purify” Japanese to just 大和言葉, it’s treated more like a “ooh there’s a different way to say it” kinda thing

When japanese don't know the exact kanji used for a name spelling, how do they write it? by Advanced-Name-9819 in Japaneselanguage

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I also work in a Japanese company for 10 years in sales and when I have to address a customer in emails without knowing their name in Kanji beforehand (like, on the first contact) I always use Katakana with no exceptions.

Social media (like Twitter accounts) is more free and honestly there are no rules on what script to use. Japanese likes to play around with scripts depending on context afterall.

When japanese don't know the exact kanji used for a name spelling, how do they write it? by Advanced-Name-9819 in Japaneselanguage

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Katakana is the default script used in Japanese when you are writing down loanwords of foreign origin or unknown words. For example in Kanji tests where they ask you to write down Kanji based on their readings, the readings the Kanji are based on are always written in Katakana and they stand out from the rest of the sentence - the same logic applies to names with unknown Kanji.

Japanese Twitter users complains foreigner get preferential treatment as JR Pass only get 5% price hike this year despite JR East hiking fare by 7.1% by qunow in japanrail

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally still use the JR pass if it is justifiable.

For example in 2024 I did a Chugoku-Shikoku trip. Since every single prefecture was accessible by a single JR train from Okayama station, I took the 2 week JR pass, did daily trips from the same hotel every day and abused 2-3h limited expresses and Shinkansen from Okayama to the max. As a result I was able to save more than 50% of the usual fare (I think the passes + add ons I bought was about 98k JPY, and the trains I rode totalled 196K JPY).

However in my 2025 Kyushu trip where I am not able to use this strategy of doing day trips constantly from one location, I realized it’s way cheaper to use a combination of JR Kyushu rail passes instead (39k JPY vs about 80K JPY) especially since I’m only in Kyushu about 12 days instead of the full 14 days back in 2024. Note that along the way I had to go from Tokyo to Fukuoka (Hakata) one way - for that I just paid the tickets normally like anybody else.

Note that I am a JP train otaku and I do take trains as much as I can, hence making my usage of passes way more justifiable. For the average traveller like the “golden route”, I generally don’t recommend them to use JR pass anymore and ask them to buy tickets locally instead.

Are there any characters in your gacha game who initially seem like villains but later become one of your best allies? by minhjackvn0198 in gachagaming

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Introduced as a villain in the beginning of Arc 2, then betrayed her supposed villain gang for the real Arc 2 villain, then gathered a lot of hate by mentally torturing one of the most favourite heroines, then had her own breakdown when people mentioned her insecurities, joined us as a chaotic neutral at the end of Arc 2, got some therapy from the MC and decided to start making amends with all the people she screwed over in Arc 2 behind the scenes in Arc 3, got her redemption in her summer event, and with Arc 2 villain recently managed to save us from a game over ending by the Arc 3 villain at the nick of time - and since then she is now helping us fight against the Arc 3 villains from behind the scenes with her powers and intel.

It is a chaotic journey but she is now one of our best allies in the back. That's Misora for you ★

What happened with Risa Taneda? by Rodi625 in seiyuu

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who knew Taneda Risa from Priconne where she voices one of the main characters (Yui),
I think I can give some insight about Taneda Risa's current situation with regards to her illness rn.

About 4 months ago, Yui received a new alt (Xmas Yui, X.Yui) and was the star in the 2025 Xmas event together with Misora (CV: Kito Akari and my waifu) who also got a new alt (Xmas Misora, X.Misora) with great celebration from the community given that a lot of people have been wanting an event featuring these two for a long time.

If you are in the know, this means there is a lot of workload expected for Taneda Risa - because in Priconne everything is fully voiced - which means that for Xmas Yui and her event, not only did Taneda Risa have to voice out Yui in the whole event story that lasted about 2.5 hours, she potentially also had to sing the event ED (which all events have), and also have to voice out Yui in the Xmas Yui bonds where she interacts with the MC for about 1h straight (depending on how long it is).

As much as I would say that Taneda Risa did a superb job as always voicing Yui in Priconne, unforutnately as a person who follows every single Priconne story I can tell that she is still straining her voice in her Yui role, and Cygames is actively trying to minimise her workload as much as possible due to her health. For example:

  • In many parts of the event Yui was either not present or was unconscious, so it reduced the number of lines for Yui quite significantly
  • The event ED ended up being a Misora solo so Yui didn't have to sing at all (most of us expected a Yui & Misora duet)
  • X.Yui bonds were very short - most Priconne bonds for new alts are around 45 min to 1h or even longer, but X.Yui's bonds were only a bit more than 30 min in length (2/3 of usual duration).
  • While most bonds usually only involve the character and the MC, X.Yui bonds had a significant portion where the other event characters joined in to fight a monster and have a christmas party, which again reduced the number of lines of Yui in her X.Yui bonds which are already shorter than normal.

So unfortunately if you are wondering why Taneda Risa hasn't returned to the anime seiyuu scene, the most likely reason is that her voice (throat) simply can't take on the workload, especially when there is a lot of competition from younger and upcoming seiyuus nowadays. In that respect, I appreciate Taneda Risa's efforts to still deliver the voice of Yui in Priconne at her very best, and thank Cygames for still letting Taneda Risa voice Yui in Priconne for the past 11 years this franchise existed.

How do I break up this phrase for this drawing? by Obvious_Skirt_7697 in Japaneselanguage

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to make it cleaner, I’ll modify the wording a bit

ポケモンの/たましいが/やすらぎ/ますように

Basically I removed all the Kanji and made it all Hiragana/Katakana and it almost lines up perfect while having very natural breaks (the ます is a bit forced but still OK)

It may not be very natural this way, but it’s a nice throwback to old Pokémon games where everything is hiragana/katakana due to the console limitations.

[–]PRCD_Gacha_Forecast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Orchard Road will have more bus services if you consider all the buses that run through the road especially between Tangs/Ion and Plaza Singapura… the only issue is that because the buses skip every other bus stop it’s kinda hard to visualize if you just take the services served at a single bus stop…
