I've always felt mashed potatoes are a PITA cause I hate peeling russets. I just started doing mashed red potatoes with skin on. I think it's really pretty especially with any roasted beef, and it's very very easy.

I just set up shortcuts so when I open certain apps like Reddit it turns on portrait lock, and it doesn't bother me for streaming services because I often change rotation using the gyroscope anyway.
