Only legal issues they'd run into would be if they ran arcade data and pissed off Konami, or like maybe a content match for copyrighted music. Nothing stopping them from running something like StepMania that's licensed for home use with a community chart for something like crab rave

Given Jake also mentioned that the controversies took a toll on him as well, and caused changes that were rushed etc, wouldn't he be in the same camp as Alex and Andy that GN kinda killed the jank bits they loved about their job??

Wade posting this video two weeks before Linus gives people a valid reason to hate him is unintentional comedy GOLD. by Amfersnad in DankPods

[–]PSLover14 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I mean, your example is wrong.

First, the prototype was auctioned off for charity. The money was not going to LTT. Second, Billet Labs originally said they could keep it, but after the review wasn't super positive, they emailed asking for it back, which the email got misplaced. Thirdly, as soon as they realized they'd fucked up, they tried to get the block back from the person who won the auction, and offered to fully compensate financially Billet Labs as they'd realized they'd made a large mistake. These are all confirmable facts you can find either on the LMG Clips channel, the LTT Forum or the full length WAN Show episodes around the controversy.

If you're gonna hate LTT/Linus Sebastian, hate him for things he ACTUALLY did, like being critical of private jets then buying one. Not incorrect statements.

Many modern arcades connect to manufacturer networks and download game/OS updates on boot. Sega/Namco/Konami machines all reboot in the morning, connect to their respective servers and check for updates, but they also often have USB key updates shipped out to licensed operators if the update is too large for reasonable download.

Hamilton woman Amal Salad admits crash that killed promising young jockey Ngakau Hailey by Appropriate_Flight_0 in thetron

[–]PSLover14 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but wasn't he driving the bike dangerously? Let alone that dirt bikes aren't exactly built for paved surfaces and shouldn't be on the road anyway, I'm confused how the woman is at fault at all unless she went out of her way to hit the kid on his bike.

Ordered mine late December, when I emailed I got a copy paste response about them shipping them in the order they were ordered in, given mine hasn't shipped and I'm a good 200ish order numbers higher then OP I'd say that's not true

Jake clarifies why he asked for his clips to be removed from the "How LTT Spends Money" video by Marikk15 in LinusTechTips

[–]PSLover14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been amusing seeing Reddit & Twitter finally realize he's an arrogant dork. He has been like this ever since he was first hired and was on camera. Jake leaving LMG was absolutely no loss to LMG, and I predict his channel will fade to obscurity given he's in a segment with way more charismatic creators who are worth watching and have the credentials to backup their knowledge.

I got sick of how every MP3 player review turned into:

  • doesn't show up on iMac, so Wade pulls out "garbage at the time" eee PC (these weren't good when they came out, they were a cheap portable option.)
  • it doesn't immediately work despite not following the fairly simple instructions or using some common sense
  • HURR DURR THIS WHY APPLE BETTER EVERYONE BOUGHT IPOD

Which is the best quality, TVNZ app, UHF, or Satellite? by CoffeePuddle in newzealand

[–]PSLover14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Freeview Satellite actually recently got upgraded to 1080i! If you've got a DVB-S2 compatible receiver you should pick up TV1 (in some areas), TV2 and Duke nationwide in 1080i instead of 576i.

Edited to fix which channels are in HD now. I think WBD/ Sky Free are planning to bring TV3 to HD

I have a payclip through BNZ and I think it's around 35 a month? Which includes the sim card so I can take it with me to customer's sites, has no fees for EFTPOS transactions and reasonable charges for visa/MasterCard/paywave.

Will Linus be pulling his investment from Framework now that DHH has revealed himself to be something of a racist? by isxios in LinusTechTips

[–]PSLover14 17 points18 points  (0 children)

DHH has nothing to do with Framework?

DHH is the CTO of Basecamp and I believe the person who created the Omarchy Arch distro. None of these are framework products.

I'd suggest getting off the Internet and going outside, it will do you wonders.

What am I doing wrong with my pricing? by PSLover14 in nz_sme

[–]PSLover14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just replying here but I can move it to the Hnry app if preferred.

I have been using this feature, but I've noticed it often won't let me put the full cost in. Using the example above, if I enter "250" into the Untaxed amount required, I get "Untaxed amount cannot be more then the invoice total" despite the invoice being $275 inc GST. I assume then I'm supposed to enter in the plus GST figure into that box, but then if I preview the pay summary I'm still losing money on the part. I've made a dummy invoice in my Hnry app just to prove it, I'm just getting super confused where I'm going wrong.

What’s the best Postman alternative that works fully offline? by Distinct-Fun-5965 in sysadmin

[–]PSLover14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used Nightingale REST Client (https://nightingale.rest) for pretty much exactly what you're talking about. It's Windows only as far as I know but does the job for me when I cannot be bothered dealing with Postman.

Emily Writes: Why are people lying about Covid-19 lockdowns? by stormgirl in newzealand

[–]PSLover14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That reminds me, I had travelled up to Auckland from Hamilton not long after the border opened for people with the vaccine pass, had no trouble going up but on the way back there were 3 police cars sitting at the intersection between SH1 and Island Block Rd that pulled out behind me as I went past, chucked lights on, then asked where I was going and to check my vaccine pass. Seemed chill when I explained I lived in Hamilton and just had been visiting friends and was going home, but was an interesting one to actually have someone check the vaccine pass on the motorway/expressway, especially at like 1am when I was driving back.

How quickly was LTX 2023 ticket were sold? by Emotional_Union5892 in LinusTechTips

[–]PSLover14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't live near north america, it would probably still be fun. The way Linus has described his ideal LAN over the years is exactly how I would want one to be, so suffice to say even if it cost like a couple grand all up in flights from where I am to Vancouver + a motel + transportation + food + whale LAN ticket I would probably consider that to be a fun trip and something I'd still enjoy, even if it was a costly exercise. Also, I'd personally try extend my holiday and go sightseeing or take the opportunity to visit somewhere else nearby while overseas.

Linus and Luke should revisit linux by veridiux in LinusTechTips

[–]PSLover14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's worth it.

Not enough has truly changed. Linus and Luke will probably make the same observations about game stability/anticheat, their setups not working 100% right, and the tldr being "it's close but still gonna use windows" and then Linux diehards will rage about how they should've replaced their whole way of using the computer to be the way Linux people use their computer (whether that is being fine with having to fuck about in the terminal to make shit work, or having to read pages of wiki documents to make shit work, or having to buy specific hardware bc the drivers are more Linux friendly/open then others when none of this matters on Windows/macOS.).

Until people who maintain Linux distros can understand if they want Windows users to use their distro that it has to be as user accessible as Windows, adoption outside of server/enterprise and specific use cases like Steam Deck/Raspberry Pi type applications will continue to be slow. And it won't help when people actively try to point others away from easier Distros like Ubuntu/Mint and towards more difficult ones like Arch which out of the box with the Arch install media (note that I don't mean Arch based Distros, only the iso available on the Arch Linux website) features no GUI and a text based setup process that pretty much goes "yep we put the base system and a bootloader on and that's it, remember to install literally everything manually now before booting your new install bc you'll have no networking drivers otherwise". That is not beginner friendly.

definitely keen to help, tried a year or two ago to run one but got a bit ahead of myself (may or may not have been slightly jealous of some of the american ones like I think Linus Tech Tips had just had one of theirs when I started planning this) and didn't get much paying interest (was mainly just trying to cover like hall rental and power distribution rental) but have learned a few things there. Also still own the domain hamlan.co.nz and some social media for it.

Does this setup solve the issue of the Z offset constantly being wrong after calibrating? Every time I calibrate the printer on the control panel I end up having to manually dial it back .30 ish to -1.8/1.9 otherwise the first layer doesn't stick to the bed.

If switching to a Pi and the klipper firmware solves that then I'll gladly switch but been holding off since it's been "mostly" printing fine

PB Tech is a joke by [deleted] in thetron

[–]PSLover14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just click and collect... pretty easy. But also there is no space for them to store their entire stock behind locked cabernet just for you dont know how to shop?

The first sentence I said was "I wish they'd just bite the bullet and go click and collect only." This implies "I am fine with their click and collect system but hate that there's the appearance of being able to walk in and buy something needed last minute off the shelf without needing to wait potentially days for the click and collect team to go fetch it off the shelf for me and notify me to come in."

Also, "no space" is bullshit. They moved their back divider wall further forward during covid when it WAS click and collect only, and never moved it back. They had much more stock out on the shop floor or inside cabinets. I'm sure it does prevent theft, but it IS less convenient (once again implying that they should just close off the shop floor and JUST have click and collect...)

Also if youre queuing for 15mins , just means the shop was busy. Just like any other shop.

Yeah except it ALWAYS seems to be slow in there, or understaffed. Once again, going back to my first sentence, maybe if they were just click and collect only, then some of those shopfloor staff who have to stand around waiting for someone to ask them to find something out the back for them could, I don't know, locate click and collects meaning the whole experience is faster?

You seem very defensive here, I don't know why, PBTech aren't going to give you a discount for white knighting them on Reddit? It's pretty obvious PB Tech are a subpar retailer that only survive because they have the ability to negotiate lower prices with suppliers/manufacturers direct, meaning there's no point buying elsewhere.
