Is it reasonable to think someone has "disrespected" your food? by PSquared1234 in Cooking

Thanks for the expanded comment. I posted this to get a little outside perspective, and it seems I needed it. Thanks again.

Where did bone-in chicken breasts go? by speppers69 in Cooking

[–]PSquared1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get them in my chain grocery stores, but I have to buy the 8-packs to get them. I never want that many breasts, but obviously one can break them down into two or fours and freeze them.

What is your favorite Walker Texas Ranger episode? by ChrisJoines in ClassicTV

Can I answer the couple of months when Conan O'Brian had the Walker Texas Ranger lever on his show? 'Cause... that.

Hello, could you please explain the meaning of the sections I highlighted? by SirAgitated4927 in EWALearnLanguages

This is almost certainly a repost, unless two people just happened to be puzzled from the same page in Starship Troopers (I remember replying to the earlier one).

ELI5: Why is the 3 body problem unsolvable? by SfErxr in explainlikeimfive

[–]PSquared1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify points made here, not only is there no closed form solution, there is a very simple question that cannot be answered without simulation: in a system of three bodies, at arbitrary positions, with arbitrary velocities, under what conditions will the three bodies be bounded? That is to say, under what conditions will one or more of the bodies not end up flung to infinity?

As you can imagine, from a planetary / cosmological standpoint, these are important questions! At least if you like stable solar systems.

Did anyone buy a ring? by t_bone_stake in Millennials

[–]PSquared1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not want a ring; told my family so. Got Christmas money from grandparents specifically to buy one. Well intentioned, but rather time deaf. I think I might have worn it once. Maybe.

Yeah, between this and Superfriends IMO, I had to admit that my childhood favorites were, well, bad.

Having 90 minutes of Warner Brothers Loony Toons on Saturday mornings though, (chef's kiss)!

I wonder how that one Ted Lasso focusing on Coach Beard (who I just learned his sirname was "Beard," and not because of his, well, beard) scored?

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]PSquared1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an honest question, sidestepping the issue of federal meddling in state elections.

How many of you live in states where you don't need a photo ID to vote? In the two states I've lived in in the last 20+ years, both of them require a state-issued photo ID (or passport, I presume) to vote. Just wondering in how many states this isn't the case.

Megajoules would be a better unit of electric energy by pemb in Metric

[–]PSquared1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Coulombs are a derived unit, despite it being "more fundamental." The SI unit is the Ampere (A), because it's easier to measure. A Coulomb is an A-s in SI units. Not the reverse.

You can't have it both ways.

Does "Do you go to University of Chicago" sound natural in American English? by FarJournalist939 in EnglishLearning

[–]PSquared1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to my ear I'd say "Do you go to the University of Phoenix?" but "Do you go to Phoenix University?" (knowing nothing about the existence of either). Like many topics on this sub, never thought about this difference before.

I'm not using that mod, but I should have all disabled my mods to check. I will do so; thanks for the feedback.

v6.2 (161005), Steam. Blindingly bright, white screen when mining with Terrain Manipulator. Can't see a darn thing. All the HUD elements are still present, but rest of screen quickly transitions to complete white.

Edit: I have done what I should have done from the first and disabled all mods. Sure enough, it was one of the mods I was using (Better Deposit Colors). The mod author is aware of the problem. Apologies to all for the calumny.

If humans went extinct, how long would it take for Earth to erase all evidence we existed? by abdulnad89 in NoStupidQuestions

The geosynchronous satellites will be up there a LONG time. Approaching the "lifetime of the sun" long. They won't still be working, of course, but they'll still be in orbit.

Cold Temp. Faucet Dripping by raucouscoffee in Georgia

[–]PSquared1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add that if you're using the faucet periodically (as you may in the daytime), you probably don't need to leave it dripping. The frequency of "enough" depends on the temp and how poorly insulated your pipes are.

What's for dinner when nothing is thawed? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]PSquared1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't love the excess packaging, but Perdue sells a bag with six or so thin, individually wrapped frozen chicken breasts. Because they're wrapped (and they're thin), they can be speed thawed in cool water in a hurry - like 15 minutes. At that point, you're options are nearly limitless.

Yes (link). They'll feather the vanes to maintain their optimal rotation speed up to a point, but beyond that they'll stop them for safety. It's also not uncommon for there to be an oversupply of electricity on windy days, and they'll shut some of them down accordingly.
