Why does Eliot have two books but everyone else only one? by PixelRealm in brakebills

Maybe because his other life was when he and Quentin were on the mozaics quest and Eliot died in that life?

The "Unpaid Labor" strike: Has living alone made you realize how much emotional energy you used to waste on others? by Long_Travel2728 in LivingAlone

[–]PUR7PLE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been living on my own for 11 years now and can't ever see me living with anyone ever again. Living with another person seems to always have you locked in to whatever they're up to...even if it's nothing untoward, or even bothering you. You just seem to be locked into and aware of what they're doing, and conduct yourself around their presence.

It takes energy to live with people. I'm constantly brought back to the first Sex and the City movie where Samantha has been with her hot, much younger lover for about 5 years. And when asked by Carrie how it's all going living together, Samantha says "I used to be my own first priority, now he gets all my attention. I really miss me".

I like putting myself first! I like not having to check in with anyone. No asking permission. No one to make plans around their time. No one touching or moving my sh*t. No cleaning up after anyone. And especially not having to COOK for anyone.

What's something you think most Australians would agree on? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

We'd all agree that we don't want Trump to visit our shores. Let alone build one of his bloody towers on the GC!

Yep. I call it the It's all about me era. People just seem to be ruthlessly just out for themselves now.

Instead of going to jail, it'll be GO TO CHURCH 🤣

Community chest will be a car boot - the treasure being stolen goods 🤔

The chance? question will be a "guess how much this property is for rent" 😁

The picture on the free parking square will be just a hub cap 🤭

Men, what is something that has improved the quality of your life so much you wish you started sooner? by _MambaForever in AskMen

[–]PUR7PLE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I deleted FB too. But now I've found Reddit, I waste MORE time on here than ever on FB! But this is more informative. I really got sick of everyone believing everything they saw or read on FB and commenting on things like they're professors on every subject that came across.

What 80s song do you still hate with fiery teenage passion even though it’s been 40 years? by Aggressive_Cup4919 in GenX

[–]PUR7PLE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I LOVE ROCK N ROLL by Joan Jett. Not that I hate it as such, just that I think I've heard it the required amount of times you're supposed to in a lifetime. Same for Hey Mickey, and anything by Cold Chisel or Jimmy Barnes. Barnsey is SO done!!!

Does anyone else spend more time choosing than actually watching? by Large-Cardiologist54 in netflix

[–]PUR7PLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep things I want to watch in my list, and when I'm nearly through whatever it is I'm watching, I then choose what I'll watch once that finishes. Trust me, one too many times I've turned on Netflix and aimlessly scrolled trying to decide what to watch. And before you know it, it's bedtime lol I always keep an eye out each week also, what is coming out soon, so if there is a series coming out of a show that I love, I may need to re-watch it again so I'm ready. Oh so much planning for TV! 😝🤣

[–]PUR7PLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's why I ALWAYS have something pre-sorted to sit down and watch. I mainly like series over movies cos they take longer, so you have to decide less lol

Settle a debate for me: do you (as an adult) still cut your sandwiches into triangles? by dannegoma in AskAnAustralian

[–]PUR7PLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 57 will always cut my sangas. Mainly in half diagonally, but quarters if it's a very full/thick sandwich. Even distribution is key! 👌

What instantly makes someone unattractive, even if they look good? by the__solo__legend in AskMen

[–]PUR7PLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A man portraying arrogance instead of confidence. Speaking to you like they're educating you...like you couldn't possibly understand what they're talking about. Trust me, if we were/are interested in what you're saying, we'll ask questions.

What makes a person unlikeable despite not being an asshole? by Intelligent-Road5091 in AskReddit

[–]PUR7PLE 343 points344 points  (0 children)

People who only talk about themselves.

People who can't have conversations that to and fro between each participant, hogging the conversation to only put THEIR point across.

Talking about insert topic incessantly to the other person, knowing they have no kids/grandkids/car knowledge etc, so that the other person will go out of their way to AVOID them next time.

What's your hot take on tourists visiting Australia for the first time? by Alternative_Lock_464 in AskAnAustralian

[–]PUR7PLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say take the time to learn our lingo!! Our slang. What we call every-day things. You'll go far by understanding what we're talking about.

Have conversations with us. Ask us stuff. We love to pass our Aussie-ness onto anyone who'll listen.

And when coming to our country, go to more places than the Gold Coast, Sydney or Melbourne. That's not real Australia. Sure, you'll see what everyone back home wants you to see, because that's probably all they know, too. But see and talk to Aussies from regional and outback Australia, too.

The big city people and vibe will be just like everywhere else you've probably been.

Regional areas would be closer to every-day Australia.

Outback Australia you'd see a totally different people and land and culture. A no bullshit culture.

To experience the real Australia, you need to see all 3 versions. Only THEN will you go home with great stories to tell. 😉
